I Went To a Crawfish Festival Yesterday!
Start: 7:57 PM CST
Hey guys! Yeah yeah, I know I didn't post yesterday and all, but I got home from a festival around...11 PM, and I was too tired to post. XP
Saturday/Yesterday
Hey guys. Hehe, yeah. I didn't really do anything.
Well, I woke up around 9 AM... (Have you ever had that feeling you had school that day, but you remembered, and you didn't have school? That's what I had. XP) I got a bit bored, so I remembered I had to do laundry and stuff like that. (My parents weren't home in the early morning, so eh.) Anyways, I remembered I had a black shirt I need to darken. (You know how when you wash black clothes with a lot of bleach sometimes and it starts to become blotchy and/or fade? Well, I know how to dye clothes so that they become their original colors.)
Well, I started to pour the dye and the water in, until I realized I needed to use HOT WATER. (GAR. ALL THIS TIME I'VE BEEN USING COLD WATER FROM A GARDEN HOSE!!! And I've already been stirring it for half an hour!!! GRR!!!) So I went inside and started boiling water.
In the meanwhile, my dad and brother were fixing the plastic coverings for the kitchen's chairs... I got really aggravated because my brother kept repeating something over and over when I had already answered it. (I hate it when he does that!!!)
Well, I did pour in hot water, and it did take a while... (I made three batches from two kettles.) So it took time and I poured it into the thing with the dye and stuff...
OH MY GOSH. IT WAS TIRING. Imagine standing outside on a hot day, crouching down, and stirring a liquid with fabric inside for like...1-2 hours!!! (It wasn't painful, but I think the sunlight hurt my eyes. XP) It also kinda made me cranky doing. -_-;;
Well anyways, after stirring the shirt in hot water with dye for a while, I washed it off with cold water and then hand-washed it with laundry detergent. XP (My mom wouldn't let me use the washing machine since it might stain it...)
See what people have to go through to MAKE clothes? I mean from scratch? The dye, plus the cutting and sewing takes a long time... My mom can make clothes, but she doesn't like to, since going to a store and buying clothes takes less time. (And it might not seem like it, but you spend more time and more money buying fabric to make clothes.)
Anyways, me going on about what's-a-matcha-call-its... XP
Well, I stayed on the computer and tried to fixed the computer. It's so TIRING... -_-;;
Well, my parents called me and asked if I wanted to go to a festival with them and I said "yes", even though it took me a while to get ready since the computer was getting on my nerves. (Sometimes, I feel like smashing it, and it's pretty brand-new!!! o_O;; But computer is supposed to make your life easier! Instead, viruses and spyware and stuff makes your life more tiring... GRR.)
Well, I wore a white T-shirt and indigo cargo pants. (Not so special, but eh. XP) My dad was in the kitchen taking down the phone number and information about the church where the festival was held at.
Well, Ah Fah came! (I call her that, but she's not really my grandmother. XP) But first, she wanted to come inside and look at the exotic Chinese pictures my parents bought and hung in the house. XP
Well, we did go after she finished looking, and I found out Ah Kung didn't come with us since he didn't like to listen to music... ^^;; (Chewing gum on the whole way, I listened to my adults talk about stuff. It's fun if you know what they're talking about. XP No one else was with me but them. XP)
Ah, Houston has so many tollways! (Those are the thingys where they make you stop and pay money to pass...) Hehe, my dad called the guy from the church to see what roads to take to get to the church... And by doing that, he took the "non-paying lane". (You can get a ticket for doing that... ^^;;)
Well anyways, it took a try or two, since we missed the street and had to U-turn back... ^^;; (I've noticed there are people's feet sticking out from the top of the highways. o_O! Like, those stretches of highway that are on long poles, and underneath it, there are sometimes people hiding in there. o_o;;)
We did finally get to the festival place, and it was such a small church. XP But still, I looked around, and I found it...peaceful... It had that same feeling of P.A. (Oh, how I missed that feeling... Yeah, you don't realize you miss something until you leave it...)
I realized that it was a Spring/Crawfish Festival!!! (Actually, it was Mid-Spring, and it was also Earth Day! XP)
Well, we sat in the front and waited for my dad to park the car. Hehe, I wanted to go eat, and I was pointing behind me (since the music was blaring and I used my hands to kinda show what I meant) and my mom thought I was pointing to a white guy that was working the controls for the stage behind me. XP (It was a Vietnamese festival though. XP) But I meant the food. XP
But before that, I wanted to explore the church! There were games too, and a dunking game (trying to think of the name, but it's where you throw a ball at a thing, and when it hits, the person sitting over the water falls down), and when I saw that, it just made me laugh. XP
There were some games, but there was no DDR. XP (Usually, there are DDR games in the Vietnamese festivals I go to, but eh. XP) And I found my dad in the parking lot. XP
So I bought a ton of food really. At first, my mom wanted me to buy che for Ah Fah. (She wanted che thap, which is Vietnamese black fungus pudding.) Well, I don't know if you can ACTUALLY call it pudding, but I can't find another word for it. XP
Well, I bought meat shish-kabobs and sugar cane juice (I originally wanted to buy gumbo instead of sugar cane juice, but the two women who worked there said "What's gumbo?" WAIT. Why write it on your board if you don't sell that?!), but when I came back, my mom left to go buy stuff for Ah Fah. Fruit salads yum. XP
But my parents didn't want to buy crawfish, since they said it was dirty to eat, especially sitting where we were. (But really, what's a crawfish festival without crawfish? XP)
What's a crawfish, you ask? It's seafood, common around the Gulf of Mexico area, and it looks like a lobster, only the size of a shrimp. XP
I kinda wandered the playing thing again, and I saw two policemen laughing at the dunking game, and I was too... XP (Dunno why though. XP)
Well, it was really fun, and I met a bunch of famous Vietnamese singers. ^^ (It's weird, but these group of people are more enthusiastic than last year's La Vang festival. ^^;;) Hehe, there was a singer that was 60, but only looked 20-30. o_O;; (At first, I thought she had plastic surgery and stuff done, but I found out she never had it done, even though it looked like it! So imagine being 60, and looking 30-something. I read that in a book somewhere, and it has to do something with your genetics...)
Oh yeah... My dad finally bought crawfish. Well actually, he gave me the money to go buy it. -_-;; Oh my gosh... I felt dirty eating the crawfish, since it really is messy. ^^;; (I saw Ah Fah looking at us eat with kinda a digusted face... ^^;;)
Really, I tried to be SOO neat with eating crawfish, but it's really hard. -_-;;
I got ordered around to get stuff and throw some stuff away... ^^;;
I kinda felt sleepy around some of the acts... XP I've noticed that some of the people singing went to school in the U.S. It's weird, eh? I meant, imagine having a friend that you knew, but you didn't know they were famous in another country. (That's how it was like for Utada Hikaru! Born and raised in NYC, but famous in Japan. ^^) Well, there was a guy and a bunch of girls/women clapped for him. (He even got flowers from a girl in the audience? o_O?) At first, I thought he said he was gonna strip... o_O;; But no. Well, he was declaring his love for a girl in the audience, whoever that was. (Didn't catch the name, but it sounded like "Elizabeth".)
There was also a little kid show at the thing, where these young elementary kids were doing a skit and there was also a little kid dance when I first got to the place. Oh my gosh... Those little kids looked so cute in their traditional Vietnamese clothes!!! ^^ Also, in the skit, even though the little kids forgot some of the parts of the skit, the audience found it cute and started laughing... Aww... ^^
But one of the little girls was singing before the skit... At first, I didn't hear her... Really, her Vietnamese singing was HARD to understand... (You see, Vietnamese is a tonal language, like Mandarin and Cantonese, etc.) But I heard the words "sau rieng" in her song, which means "durian".
What's a durian, you ask? Look it up on Yahoo! or Google. XP
Hmm, I also went to go buy more food, like a Dr. Pepper and corn and stuff... XP Ugh, you know that crawfish I was eating? I wanted to wash up, but I couldn't since I couldn't find the restrooms, so I used water from my soda and bottled water and yeah... -_-;; But my dad bought that corn, and guess what?! HE ACTUALLY TRIED TO HAGGLE WITH THE PERSON THAT SOLD THE CORN!!! (Shame on him! And if you don't know, haggling means when you buy something at a store, but you start talking to them to somehow lower the price... -_-;;) But Ah Fah couldn't eat the corn... -_-;; (She's getting of old age, and she can't use her teeth so well.)
Well, my brother did call my dad once... Oh yeah. I looked around, and I saw a SWARM OF PEOPLE COVERING THE STAGE AND FESTIVAL GROUNDS!!! (OH MY GOSH! SO MANY PEOPLE COME AT NIGHT!!!) Oh yes. Did I also tell you about the fly problem? Yes. At the festival, there were swarms of flies covering the area, and even flew into people's foods. Ugh. -_-;;
Oh yes. While we were listening to the music, a woman fell down because her foldable chair broke. o_O;; (It scared me, and the people around her, and she was holding her daughter.) She left the chair there and probably went somewhere else to sit. I later picked up the nails that fell out of the chair. ^^;;
Well, we did finally go home because my mom was worried about Ah Fah and stuff... We left the church grounds around...10:30 PM, and we reached home around 11 PM, and we dropped off Ah Fah at An Suc's house. ^^ (She gave me her fruit from the festival... XP) Hehe, my mom was afraid An Suc was gonna yell at Ah Fah for being home so late and making him worry and stuff... ^^;;
Well, when I finally did get home, I stayed up, ate a little bit of stuff, and went to sleep around midnight or whatever... ^^;;
But before that, I decided to stay on the computer for a little bit... I checked my site and found a nasty comment from "mysterious guy", A.K.A. Andrew/Sai... I mean, if he really hates me, why does he keep coming to my site? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, read yesterday's comments.)
Sunday
Well, I woke up around 7 PM since my alarm rang, and I just woke up. XP I wanted to go on the computer and fix some stuff, but my sister was playing, and I was tired, yet so stressed... I saw that the floors were looking a little dirty, so I swept the kitchen floors... Then I watched T.V., and I even did some stretches and exercise to get rid of stress and wake me up a bit more... ^^;; I finally did get to go on the computer, but it was spent talking to my friends a bit and still fixing the computer more. -_-;; GRR.
Well, I played Neopets with Chi and she beat me in the Battledome!!! -_-;; I only managed to do 1 damage to her!!! -_-;; (I need to train more there.)
Well, I finally went to church around 12:15 noon and got there by 12:35 noon... So when I got there, I sat with Diana for a little bit, and then I spotted Lac-Hong, and I went to go talk with her. Lately, Lac-Hong's been having some friend problems. There's this girl that's been hacking her AIM and saying bad things to her friends and talking mess about her... Poor Lac-Hong... We also chatted with Son, and we had a chat about our school problems. ^^
Well, they had to head to class, but I went to the food market outside by the church, and I bought che. Yum. ^^ Andy was helping out with the food selling, and I decided to too. ^^ Helping pack out sodas, selling food, yeah. And Ricky wanted to help too. XP Khang came along later and he helped around too. XP But it caused a bunch of commotion... XP
Tay Bich gave a dustpan and broom to Andy, but I wanted to sweep, so I did it. ^^ (Ah, sweeping the church. Hehe. It was to keep me busy, and I didn't mind, but I seriously think it needs a good MOPPING instead. ^^;;) I found ants by some bok choy... o_o;;
Well, Khang wanted to sweep, so I gave the sweeping stuff to him. (Yeah, he has an uncle who owns a restaurant, and his uncle makes him sweep the restaurant, and once, he said he did it for five hours. XP He's only in fourth grade too... Aww... ^^;;)
Well, there was a point where I went back to sweeping, and Khang was helping people buy food, and he gave them the wrong amount of change. (He's fourth grade. XP) And so, Andy said "Hey, give him back the broom. This guy can't do math." *laughs* Ah, poor guy.
Well, I wanted to go back to selling food, so I went to go wash my hands and go back... Then Khang TRIED TO SELL ME!!! o_O;; For FOUR BUCKS!!! A guy who was buying food was kidding around and said he'll buy me... XP (I kept making him let go... XP) Oh yeah! Khang even advertised "He'll do anything!" Andy laughed and made the remark that I was being sold as a prostitute, since I would do "anything". (GREAT. o_O;; So I'm being sold as a prostitute for $4? Later, he changed the price to $5. -_-;;)
So yeah... Andy and Ricky kept eating the food without paying for it!!! (They say if you work there, you get to eat some of the food as a "pay", but I still pay for the food I eat. But Ricky...HE WAS JUST PIGGING IT ALL DOWN. -_-;;)
Andy said that if we couldn't get enough people to buy food, he would get a sharp stick and bag and do stuff to people. o_O;; (He would make the people put the money in the bag, or he would hurt them with the sharp stick. XP) Or was it that he would cover their faces with the bag??? Anyways, it was funny. XP
I bought some fried rice, and that was it. Oh, the bell rang, and we had to head to class... But no one was gonna be able to watch over the food stand... o_O;;
Lac-Hong was thinking about skipping, but the teacher wasn't even there, so we just talked outside the classroom. Oh yeah! Chi came and we chatted! Chi showed me a picture at her at Times Square (Houston, not New York... XP) and there was a picture of Dai... o_O;; But it looked like a ghost! Imagine a little Asian girl with a flashlight to her face and it was in the dark... Creepy effects. o_O;; There was also another picture of her as the girl from "The Ring"... o_O;;
Oh yeah. Khang wanted to write on my hand, and I fought back, but I let him... And then he wanted a piggy back ride, and he kept stretching my shirt and yeah, I did give him a piggy back ride. I didn't mind. He kept saying "Go faster horsey!" though... -_-;; (But there were some perverted guys going "Ew..." when they saw me giving a piggy back ride to that little kid. Okay, imagine me giving a piggy back ride to a little kid... There's nothing wrong with it. But they were thinking pervertedly!) In a way, I think of Khang as my younger brother... XP But I spoil him too much. XP Chi says I'm too nice, and that I let little kids boss me around. But Chi says that's a good thing... XP
Oh yeah. Khang saw a picture of Dai and he said "Man, she's hot." My and Chi's expression: o_O;; (Chi thinks he's a weirdo... ^^;;) She also said she's too old for him, but they're only a year apart. (She said he was short... ^^;; But he'll have a growth spurt soon. XP)
Oh yeah... Khang tried to put his arms around Chi and she grabbed his hand... ^^;; He also sang a song about Tony the Tiger and how he f***ed him... o_O;; (Using that same tune with "Hey Tony!")
Okay, so Khieu Thu saw us and asked us to sign a card for Co Jennifer, whose birthday is coming up soon. (Ooh. ^^) I didn't know what to write, and all John wrote was "Ditto." XP
Nam's dad was substituting that day since the regular teacher wasn't here. Kim came in, and she told us that our ending exam was supposed to be today, but the teacher didn't come, so we couldn't take it... Instead, we did a Chinh ta and that counted as our exam... o_O;; Oh yeah. I also took Lac-Hong's friend test, and I scored a 60! (That was the highest one! XP Son scored a 10. XP)
Well, after Viet Ngu class, we took a picture of Nickkie in her classroom and Chi kept trying to find Dai... I can't believe she doesn't know her own sister's classroom... And even more, she doesn't know her grade!!! @_@!!! So we kept trying to find her. We did, and she was wearing a red shirt with a jean skirt. But when she first saw Chi, she screamed and ran away... o_O;; (That was...random.) Chi and I started running towards her, and I spotted her running outside...) She was wearing red, so she was easy to spot. XP
We chatted with her for a while, and we told her that Khang thought she was hot, and she just said that she hated him... ^^;;
Oh yeah. Khang hit on another little girl... Calling her hot and stuff... ^^;; Her name was...something with a "V". Veronica or Victoria, something like that. XP
So Chi and I headed towards Confirmation, and we did Journal and a bunch of stuff. Oh yeah! Our ending exam is next week, so we made a little game in order for us to take notes for next week... XP
I wasn't on Chi's team, but I was on Andy's! He had lots of peppermint candy, and asked me to throw away the wrappers... ^^;; (Well, hold them in my pocket until class was over, then throw them away. XP)
I talked with Natalie, and oh yeah! I found out Vy and Trang haven't been at Confirmation because they haven't been able to find a ride... Aww... I really miss them.
Oh yeah! Co Jennifer asked me to come out to review my report card, and my average for all the major exams this year is 99!!! ^^ (She expects me to make a 100 after this next text. XP)
So we chatted (Chi, Diana, Nickkie, and I) and Nickkie was on the phone with Sue being all hyper and weird, and Chi was trying to take pictures of us all. XP (Especially of Diana and I, but Nickkie kept blocking it... o_O;;)
Oh yeah. There were these guys around us trying to do pull-ups with a crane in the middle of the church hallway (yes there was a crane) and guys trying to jump as high as they could. ^^;; (Chi asks why do guys do that... I dunno myself. XP)
Oh yeah!!! Khang came and started to mess with me... XP Hehe, he tried to turn on that crane... o_O;; He also dragged me outside so he could beat me up (he was joking about that) and Andy was fending himself off with that same sharp stick and plastic bag from earlier. XP
Several times had he tried to throw that same sharp stick at my head... ^^;; (It missed all those times though. XP)
That sharp stick? It was really a shish-kabob stick. XP
Well, mass was so fun, and I really had a chance to relax. Really, my life is filled with stress, and the only time I can really escape from that stress is church... ^^ It's so calming and peaceful...
After that, Chi and her dad went home, and I finally saw Sonja and Scott again! (I hadn't seen them since the festival preparations, and that was like...2-4 months ago???) I really missed talking to them... ^^
Well, we all headed to Food Town to buy food and all that stuff... (I dunno why, but that store reminded me of the old Market Basket store in P.A. XP)
My sister's afraid to buy stuff by herself, so she makes me come along, and then carry it all the way to the cart... ^^;; (I wonder how it's gonna be like when she grows up? Imagine Diana grabbing a carton of juice to the cart, but when she gets close to the cart, she starts screaming. XP) Me and my wild imagination. XP She also taught me how to curtsy (guy's style) correctly. It's not just a bow. XP (I thought it was! XP)
Well, it was fun in the store. You know, we had that hand signal "Yes Lord" stuck in our heads, and we were doing it... *thumbs up, then L-shaped "loser" sign* And we kept trying to do it as fast as we could... XP
Ah, after shopping, my mom ran across the busy street to the 99 cents store to buy...a lighter, I think? In the meanwhile, I was busily eating a chocolate doughnut and eating those new Jalapeno Cheetos. XP
We headed home, and I've been here ever since. XP
How was my day? I dunno. XP
But if I post it now, no one's gonna read it!!! GRR. Oh well. -_-;;
