Shopping spree, guys and anime.
On monday hieu and i were taken to a shop where you could get anime posters, stickes, keychains, and other wonderful stuf by a freing. The coolest thing is that the average price would be the equivelant of 38 cents american dollars. Cool huh? So needless to say there will be gifts all around when i return. Latley hieu and i have been hanging out a lot. On wendsday, in
the afternoon, hoa, chi li, chi quyen, and another aunt, and assorted
progeny went to a fashion/fabric expo. while hieu went to class. We all
piled on to motorbikes, and for awhile, hoa was taking hieu to school, so
we all wandered around, looking at all the really cool, and REALLY cheap
clothes. Then hoa came and became the undisputed leader in our little
expodition. She is just a take charge kind of lady, and all the female
relatives seem to march under her flag. We had a great time looking at
everything, and i proved very useful in carring small people, due to my
larger size and strenghth. We ended up shopping for 4.5 hours, and when we
went out to the foyer, it was raining. So we found a secluded spot ploped
down our bags and bottoms, and rested tired legs, sore ankles, and
blistered feet. We had managed to visit EVERY single booth in the show
(tHIS was not a small show) and come out with purses still intact, but many
many wonderful purchases. Even though no one was fluent in english ( and
lord knows i am not fluent in veitnamese) we managed to comunicate just
fine. At the end when hoa was leading me by the arm to the foyer since
everyone was done ( arm/hand holding is a sign of freindship and affection
among females here) she was nearly collapsed in a fit of giggles over how
MANY guys did doubletakes when seeing me. The thing that did her in though
was when two security gaurds ( 25 years old, and rather cute ) decided to
test their english pick up lines on me. We got home and i slept until
dinner and then went upstairs to sleep some more. Those women are amazing,
they can easily run circles aruond this amatuer american shopper.
Yesterday, Hieu and i stayed at home in the morning, and then we went out to have dinner with trum, at my favorite restraunt, pho 27, with trums freind/host sister who is visiting veitnam. She however is veitnamese, and fluent, but we still had fun. Then we met up with another exchange student from newyour, peter, and went to one of those fun photo booths and had our picture taken. Then we all went out to kareoke, and i actually managed to score a hundred on a song. Weird since technically i CANT sing, and i have only done this 5 times before....weird.
Today hieu was home in the morning, so after breakfast hieu started up the xbox and began to play ninja gaiden. I assumed my officail position as peanut gallery/health meter watcher, and began to do my homework for flower making class. We had a fun filled morning, and after lunch at kfc (do you know that in veitnamese kfc's they have silverware, glasses, and alongside ketchup is bottles of chile sauce) we went home and then after a breif wait headed of to hieu's enghlish school (he is currently taking a visa interveiw class there) with trum, so she and i could hang out while hieu had class. Trum is really cute, she is about a foot shorter than me has a round heartshaped face, and BEATIFUL wavy/curly hair. After hieus class was over, we met him downstairs hanging out with his other classmates. A guy phoung, who is aperently a ladies man who all the girls worship, intoduced himself to me (butting in on my conversation with ahn and trum) and completely ignored trum who he had also not met. It seemed as if he expected me to fall to the floor and worship him, and give him my undivided attention. He was rather miffed when i did none of those things, and proceded to go back to my earlier conversation. He left shortly after. Serves him right, sorry but i HATE guys like that, who are SO sure of their atractiveness, and only pay atention to girls to flirt with them. Sorry for the rant there, i was just venting. It is funny, ever since i came here i have managed to get over my shyness of being stared at by people in general, and i now can brush of many stares and coments i would never have been able to deal with in america. I have learnd a lot of coping skills that come with being the ONLY anglo aruond, wich by the way draws A LOT of attention. The only thing is that hieu have the continued problem of having to beat into peoples heads that NO WE ARE NOT GOING OUT. good lord when people see us the automatically assue we are bf and gf. It can be rather funny at times...
