You set the tone, Carter
Azure: Oh, believe me, it's not about me being busy. It's more along the lines of me not being able to focus for more than a couple of minutes. *pauses* Which is odd since I can be very patient with tedious tasks, spending ages and plenty of energy in getting it done.... Female am I.
Blue Hawk: I'm kind of tempted to see the movie with Kiera Knightley now that I've seen the mini-series again.
Charlie: How grossly they underestimate your sexual prowess. Strikingly enough, I've never seen that ad. Hm.
Slick: Now there's an argument I cannot quarrel with, therefore I make peace with it :p
Pride and Prejudice is quite lovely, my dear friend. Highly contagious in its flowery expressions, too *dreamy sigh*
John: Done and done!
Evil: *high fives*
Baron: :o That solves any and all ambivalence!
Shin: *purrs* Gladly, rawr.
The reason behind "naming" my two latest posts Jake Gyllenhall and Christian Bale is as trifle as having watched/bought a lot of movies they star in, lately.
Tuesday December 27th
Mom, I and Eleine set out for IKEA at 10am and arrived noon-ish. Eleine is to move into an apartment with Juliette, thusly being in great need of furniture of all kinds. The drive down was fairly uneventful, especially considering we'd forgotten the map with directions. I wasn't feeling too well, struggling with dizzy spells, but knew that it would be both fun and neccesssary for me to tag along. After all, we're talking about purchases for nearly everything you'd need in a new home. With the added bonus of getting to scope out new decorating ideas.
We managed to fill up 4 trolleys with furniture, along with a cart full of knick-knacks. Eleine and I nearly passed out from amusement as we walked through the aisles to get all the flatpacks, filling up one trolley after the other. In the end it became so much that I had to forego my desired loot. My wallet was severely thankful for that, surely :p
Getting through the cashdesk was a comedy in and of itself, trying to manage them 4-5 vessels packed with stuff, among the three of us. Especially since we'd not divided up things before going to pay for it, resulting in a lot of "is this yours?", "should I pay for that?" and so on. Packing the smaller items into bags proved much time consuming. Far more so than picking them up and tossing into the cart, anyway.
The parking lot outside IKEA was filled to the brim, which had forced us to park in a lot (*snickers*) just opposite it. Mom and I guarded our respectable heap of swag while Eleine went to fetch the car, with attached trailer. She managed to get a little bit lost along the way, due to the confusing traffic situation, but eventually got through to us. And uploading the flatpacks, as it turned out (much to our relief), was far more easy than it had been retrieving them from the shelves.
At this point I was quite exhausted, from not feeling too well and overexerting myself with directing the epic tale of "Three silly hens in the big chicken run". Driving to the town where my sisters shall reside was not altogether easy. We went the wrong way for a bit but that was nothing compared to what happened when we tried to find the turn-off into the town.
They'd recently diverted and redirected traffic at the entrance we were coming from, causing much confusion for Eleine. Unfortunately we took a wrong turn, leading us up and onto a lane that was only meant for busses to access. Normally that wouldn't have been a problem but a huge hole in the ground (small enough for a bus to pass over but big enough for a car not to) prevented us from going further. "Then it was simply a case of going back the way you came from, right?", one might think. But remember that we had a big trailer attached to the car and the lane was not wide enough to really turn back just the car, let alone a car with a trailer, not to mention there was a steep slope to our right.
Eleine was already in a huff about the mistakes she'd done in traffic that day and not being able to get anywhere pushed her nerves too far. The agitation quickly grew to despair and there was no consoling her. We tried to tell her that everyone makes mistakes, which fell on deaf ears and only earned us a retaliation of severe magnitude in amongst the distraught sobbing:
"I defy you to come up with a mistake you've made that is worse than marrying a psycopath"
What do you say to that? How do you even begin to try and help her when she says this and you hear the heartwrenching pain in her voice? You can't. So I sat in the backseat and waited for everything to sort itself out. Call it a silent prayer for a miracle, if you will, or simply admitting defeat to a situation greater than all of us.
When it seemed that we'd be stuck there until we called dad (who'd gone up, after we left, to assist in fixing up the apartment) - something we truly did not want to do - a couple who were out walking their dog came past. The man jumped into the car (with me shivering in the back like an icicle in the Bahamas) and the women helped direct him. With a joint effort we managed to get ourselves out of the way before a bus came along down the lane and soon thereafter the car was successfully turned around.
Free from the clutches of doom, although scarred from its razor sharp teeth, we safely arrived at the apartment. Dad and Juliette came along to assist in unloading everything so it didn't take us too long to be on our way back home again. Dad drove, enabling Eleine to relax somewhat. I think we got home around 9 or 10pm. A long day, indeed.
Wednesday December 28th
The flatpacks called my name and I heeded to their calls by tagging along to the apartment. Dad would be busy with .... whatever it was, Eleine was still in a bit of a mood from the day before and I readily confess my love for attacking flatpacks. All in all, I assembled 3 large bookcases, a nightstand, a desk and attached the legs on a bed. In between all that we grabbed pizza at the pizza place just down the road (purrfect).
While we were out shopping for some supplies, I bought a coffe machine as a housewarming gift. I'd already gotten them both a silly video game with "Hello Kitty" for the PS2 but it seemed as if Juliette appreciated that one more than Eleine, so there was a need to even things out. Worked like a charm. Of course.
(And I prefer hearing "you're so generous, you make me happy" rather than "I am worthless compared to you and suffer greatly for it".)
When all the flatpacks had been dealt with and the coffe machine properly initiated, we were on our merry way home again. And I lavished once more in the praise regarding my efforts *subtle cough* There are some nice bruises to attest I deserved them, though. Arrr.
Thursday December 29th
There was a somewhat large snowstorm blowing over us yesterday, rendering us all to stay inside. Apart from Eleine who eagerly challenged the snowy winds to run some errands. I stayed indoors and sorted my room out, accomplishing most of what I set out to do.
Eleine was eager to see "Pride and Prejudice" so we indulged ourselves. The charms of Colin Firth had not waned since last I saw the series, nor had any of the other characters dulled. In fact, the mother appeared even more obnoxiously hilarious in her grating behaviour - as did Lydia - and Mr Collins provided equal entertainment value this time around.
Though none of them can touch Mr Darcy when it comes to perfection in character development. It's astonishing how the perception of him changes throughout the course of the story. Although he does change, ever so slightly, as well. A perfect match between perception and growth, I'd dare say. And Lizzy will always have a special place in my heart, both the actress for her brilliant performance and the character for being who she is.
But Mr Darcy! *giggles*
Ah. It's easy to be a fangirl when there's someone like him to swoon over. |
