I'm no Tony when it comes to reviewing but hoopla! =D

The latest release from Soul Asylum is a really good listen. Since my sister introduced me to their first album they've managed to keep a specific sound (mainly with guitar performance and melodies) which makes you recognize them pretty much instantly. The guitar solos, apart from just plain sounding good, are kept within a comfortable frame and then blend in well when it's time to pull back. So they never grate on your ears. (Not mine, anyway.)

David Pirner's lyrics are simplistic on paper but are brought to another dimension in unison with the music. As a whole they're set up in a way that allows you to either listen casually or really pay attention to what is said. Easy listening, in this case, doesn't mean it's devoid of meaning. Rather, because it doesn't demand your attention with over-ambitious high and might, it has the advantage of sneaking up on you and actually making you listen to what is quite clever ideas in all its straight- forwardness.

"The Silver Lining" feels very tight and streamlined in overall production. I don't get the feeling I've gotten from some other ones that they've tried too hard to churn out something fabulous. It's as if they've gone into a studio, larked about and released the material =)

Speaking of the great reviewers like Tony and others that do them oh-so-well-it-kills-you-with-awe, it'd be fun to hear opinions from those who've heard Soul Asylum's music. Even if you dun' like 'em :p

Schultz: Arrrr, sorry to hear you don't have the means to hop on the music train. I'll try to whip up some actual posts that you can comment on ^_^;

Shadow: Awww, you're too nice -^_^-

John: Thank you >:3

Shanny: I've learned from some of the best *winks* Love to you!

Becky: I try to give back. I try *giggles and hugs*
