Chapter Seven: A Promise Over Tears
A/N: Finally, the seventh chapter of Souta's Adventure ~ the tear-jerker ~ has come. Hold your box of tissues close...for now...it begins...
Chapter Seven: A Promise Over Tears
"Inuyasha went to Kagome's time?"
"Yes, Kaede," said Miroku. "We watched him enter the well with Souta, Kagome's younger brother."
Kaede sighed. "I have felt the rage of my sister. I believe she knows Inuyasha has chosen young Kagome over her. Ye must go and warn Inuyasha, before my sister finds him. I fear she may follow and attempt to kill Kagome, or Inuyasha."
"Or both," muttered Miroku.
"But kaede, we can't go into the well!" said Shippou. "What are we going to do?"
"Yes," said Sango. "Only Inuyasha and Kagome were able to enter the well."
"Kagome was able to go through the well, I believe, because she held the Shikon shards. Without them, she can not return here. I believe that if ye take one of the Shikon shards, ye can enter Kagome's time, as well." She presented Kagome's jar of Shikon shards. "Now hurry, before it be too late."
They each took a shard of the Shikon Jewel.
"Kagome?" asked Inuyasha, as he entered her dark room. His ears twitched at the sound of her even breathing. He walked over and pulled back her curtains, careful not to rip them with his claws. With the sun shining in through the window, he was able to see her sleeping face. Watching her, he was surprised to see something silver roll down her cheek.
Inuyasha brushed the tear away gently, as he softly sat on Kagome's bed. It broke his heart when he heard her give a muffled sob and another tear rolled down her cheek.
"Inuyasha," Kagome whispered, and two tears dripped onto the sheets of her bed.
Inuyasha watched Kagome sadly, his ears wilted. 'Kagome,' he wondered, as he watched more tears roll from her eyes. 'What have I done to you? I didnt realize how much I was hurting you.' He watched with pain-filled eyes as she shed more tears. 'I should have, though. Miroku was right, I need to ope my eyes further. Kagome...' Inuyasha reached over and gently brushed away the young girl's tears. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Hmm...Inu...Inuyasha?" Kagome asked sleepily, her eyes still closed.
Inuyasha climbed off of Kagome's bed and knelt before her on the floor. He reached out to touch her arm, but hesitated, and then pulled his hand back. "Kagome," he whispered.
Kagome's eyelids flickered, then opened fully. She stared for a few moments. "Inuyasha?" she asked in a whisper.
Inuyasha continued to watch Kagome silently. 'What do I say to her?' he wondered. 'How can I expect her to understand? Even to accept me? She has no reason to.' "Kagome, I..." He shut his mouth. 'How can I say that?' he wondered. 'She chose to leave...' "I...Kagome..."
Kagome satred into Inuyasha's golden eyes. 'What is he trying to tell me?' wondered Kagome. 'And why is he here? He came back...why?'
'What is she thinking?' wondered Inuyasha. 'I...I have to tell her the truth. I have to make her understand. I don't love Kikyou, I love...' "Kagome."
"Why'd you come back, Inuyasha?" asked Kagome. "You...You had Kikyou," she said, almost desperately. 'Why did he come back? He loved Kikyou - he chose her. Then...why?' "You had what you wanted, Inuyasha. Why...?"
"I don't," said Inuyasha.
Kagome stared at him. "Don't what?" His golden eyes met hers. "Inuyasha?"
"I don't have what I wanted," he said.
"What is it...you don't have, Inuyasha?" Kagome asked softly.
Inuyasha leaned forward until his and Kagome's noses were almost touching. He lifted his golden eyes and stared into her brown orbs. They shined in the light of the sun entering through the window. "You," he said softly. Then he kissed her, his lips fitting hers like they were meant for each other.
Kagome could have drowned in the passion Inuyasha had in his kiss. She closed her eyes, relishing it. "Inuyasha," she whispered, when finally the kiss ended.
"Kagome," said Inuyasha. "I love you. No one else, just...you." He wrapped his arms around her. "Don't leave me alone again, Kagome. I couldn't bear to see you go."
A tear rolled down Kagome's cheek as she wrapped her arms around him. "Never again, Inuyasha, I promise. Never again."
A/N: *sobs* That was so sweet... *wipes her eyes with the last tissue and sniffs* Well, that's the end of Souta's Adventure...lol...just kidding. No, there's another part - Souta's Adventure Part II. They still have Kikyou to deal with...or do they. You may ind a surprise coming up with "Kikyou." She isn't who she seems, but that's Chapter One of Souta's Adventure Part II. Do you think I should continue and post a chapter 8 here, or make a new fic for Part II? Please review and tell me what you think, and I'll update soon. If you didn't cry here - not a single tear - don't worry. These were tears of romance...tears over pain come later...maybe. And those of you who love Fluffy (Sesshoumaru) stay tuned for Parts II and III. *looks into the empty tissue box* Crap...I need more tissues. *winks* Revew soon and thanks for reading!
