I'm horrible
I wrote all this, intending to send it to my teacher because Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (that's an anime, HELLO!) has a lot of references to Catcher in the Rye which we're reading right now. But as I went along with my writing, it got more crazy, and is not exactly something you send to your teacher. Having no where to put it, you all get to learn about the references to CitR in GitS: STA! XD
There’s one anime movie in particular, called “Ghost in the Shell” which came out in 1995. There’s also a TV series that goes with it called “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.” It has to do with the future, and cyberbrains, where all your memories & experiences are kept in a digital format & can be transferred from person to person, and all that stuff. Very cyberpunk-ish.
In Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, there are some episodes that can be viewed by themselves, but there’s others that have a plot running through them, which is the main plot of the whole thing.
It starts with this mystery hacker that never called himself this, but the media dubbed him “The Laughing Man.” He was first introduced when he attempted a kidnapping/shooting, purposely, right in front of a TV camera. He was crazy, saying stuff like “you’ll never get away with it” blah blah blah. Then, the main characters work backwards to uncover the story behind the Laughing Man.
Basically, it’s this: There’s a disease of cyberbrains (along with many others, I’m sure) called “Cyberbrain sclerosis.” The main method of treatment is Micro Machines (not as corny as it sounds, I swear). But, it doesn’t work as nearly as well as something called the “Murai Vaccine.” The food & drug council in Japan vetoed the approval of the Murai Vaccine at first, even though it was more effective than Micro Machines. It later let it be used in extreme cases, but it’s not well known. Micro Machines was pushed for because of some political corruption.
The main purpose of the Laughing Man was that he was trying to bring attention to this scandal/fix it. But people in general are silly and dumb, and never bothered to really investigate his purpose. The main characters, working for “section 9” of the government that technically doesn’t exist, are working to figure it out.
The funny thing is, the Laughing Man has a lot of references to Catcher In the Rye. For one, when the Laughing Man is first on TV, well, at first he’s wearing a hat and a coat with a really high collar, so ho one can see what he looks like. But because he’s that crazy hacker, he hacks into the TV’s system and broadcasts an image that goes over his face. This: http://www.kde-look.org/content/pre1/19477-1.png
is a picture of what it says. Did you catch the Catcher reference? Holden says the same thing in chapter 25, when he’s thinking about running away, to the west.
At the very last episode, the Laughing Man is talking to the head of the unit that figured the whole thing out, in his library (yeah, he maintains an obsolete paper & ink library in the age of digital data). And he keeps quoting all these people, and she picked up on the references. At one point, he says “The world is full of phonies.” I don’t know where exactly Holden says that in the book, but he says it, of course.
Holden and the Laughing Man are somewhat in common. The best way that this has been summed up is on a website (http://www.destroy-all-monsters.com/sacepisodeguide.shtml), so I’m quoting directly from it. “The book's protagonist, Holden Caulfield, has come to represent a sort of archetypical individualism, which may be mirrored in the Laughing Man's actions. Perhaps the Laughing Man is acting out against the conformity of the society in which he lives, much as Holden Caulfield did in Salinger's book.”
J.D. Salinger also wrote a short story for the New Yorker, on March 19, 1949. And, of course, it’s called “The Laughing Man.” You can read a copy of it at this website: http://www.freeweb.hu/tchl/salinger/laughingman.html
*Grins* That’s all from insane Roxanne. It’s okay. I’m not done with my HW yet, but all I have is a worksheet, a thought-response for history & to read the preface of a book for history about the 54th black Regiment in the Civil War.
If I hadn’t typed all this up, I could have been reading Last of the Mohicans but I’m too stupid and horrible to do that. GRRRR. *is angry with self*

I know, I know dammit!
I know, I know I shouldn't even BE here! I've been surfing the next for about an hour now. God am I bad? I should be doing homework, blah blah blah. @_@
I just wanted to ask another favor: If I ever post/write/say (in AIM) anything angsty and puke-tastic, please smack me.
I meant to write that right when I got on the computer again, but I didn't because I'm lazy like that. But some things from school today, just urgh...
I swear to God, if I ever become like that (and I already feel guilty of it, actually x_x), please please smack me. Ya gotta be like, "Roxie, I'm your friend. Bearing that in mind, you're being too angsty now quit it!!!"
This is why I hate my school, actually. Like Holden & the Laughing Man have said, "The world is full of phonies." If you're my friends, don't let me do anything like that. ;)

Busy busy busy!
I'm really busy at the moment, with a band concert and a separate piano recital to practice for, projects to finish, an entire book to read by the 30th (Last of the Mohicans if you must know), lots of homework, reviews for the SAT II (not mandatory, but important test before college for all you non-American readers), not to mention me asking "when the hell am I going to get the chance to work on my cosplay costume for AnimeNext?" let alone Otakuboards and such.
My point is, May is going to be a very busy month for me. I'm sorry if I don't respond to PMs, myO posts, threads on OB or GS (I will kick your ass if you come near my real arcade scores, though), etc.
So this is the message:
Roxanne is really busy and if you see her, she probably isn't supposed to be online, so when you do see her (on GS, AIM, OB, whatever) make sure you tell her to get offline. You may tell her repeatedly until she gets offline, as well.

So I went to Vegas
So I went to Vegas. I had a really good time. ^_^
I stayed at the NY NY, but I didn't go on the rollercoaster. I went to these casinos: Luxor, Treasure Island, Venetian, Caesar's Palace, MGM, and I went through Excalibur & Mandalay Day.
I also saw the Hoover Dam, which was fine, but we went with a bus tour, and it was two frickin' hours and the damn Hoover dam (pardon the crappy pun. -___-).
Aaaaand, I saw Cirque du Soleil - Mystère. For those of you who don't know, cirque du soleil is an acrobatics show, basically. They do all these crazy acrobatics that are amazing! And there was some funny comedy stuff in there, too, that made everyone laugh. ^^ It was really, really good.
All in all, I had a lot of fun in Vegas. ^__^
In other news, I'm feeling crappy. I don'tk now if it's a cold or severe allergies, but it's really quite horrible. I just want to cry about it. =(
And someone I know is being an almighty bastard today. I've never said that before, but wow, he was really annoying me today. I just wanted to like... *ARGH!* >:=/ And I think because I was sick, it made me more irritable, also. >< *sigh*

Wish me a good trip - because I know I'll have one, and I'll tell you guys all about it when I get back.
And spread the word to other people. Thanks. ^^;
Yours,
-Roxanne

Mundane things to fill up this space
I hate writing posts with boring dail things. Hopefully as I go along, I'll pick up into some real pseudo-political-philosophical ranting (Wow. Three P's without alliteration - Who's good? XD)
I'm eating popcorn, and I guess I wanted to tell you all that I'm really bad at eating popcorn, because I'm extremely messy. I guess it stems from the fact that the two people I eat popcorn with the most (a friend at the movies) and my mom, are insane, rabid popcorn freaks. And then I feel like, to get my share of the popcorn before they eat it all, I have to shove it in my face, and then it gets all messy. So even when I'm alone eating popcorn, I have that reflex to shove it in my face (which I do), pieces break off, and it falls down around me, and onto the floor, where I type.
And talking about food made me realize I didn't have a big dinner at all. I'm really hungry. Brb. going make something to eat.
Boiling some water for Ramen. My mom buys it every week when she goes grocery shopping. I've always grown up on Ramen. Asian Ramen freak/lover over here! Booyaka!
The French kids have been to DC, and they're going to NYC in a couple days, and Friday is their last day in America (and they're spending it at our dumb school. lol.) Pierre will, of course, be there. The kid who's his American host (but speaks French fluently and IS French) has been getting tons of random IMs from people saying things like "OMG, i LoVe PiErRe!!!!" (I'm serious - he said he got one like that). He also says it's freaky. Downright should me. I mean, I think Pierre's cute, but you don't see me saying stupid things like that. I mean, I don't even know the kid. He's just eyecandy, you know? I'm not so shallow that I would love someone without getting to know them.
I mean, it's like that with celebrities, too. I think Gregory Smith (Ephram on Everwood) is seriously hot, but I don't want to marry him, because I don't know him. That's just silly.
But what about my intense obsession with Bishonen, you say? Well that's different. And I'll tell you why. It's because I evaluate their personalities, too.
My top 4 Bishounen are:
1. Ken Ichijouji (Digimon 02)
2. Quatre Raberba Winner (Gundam Wing)
3. Syaoran Li (Card Captor Sakura)
4. Edward Elric (FullMetal Alchemist)
I think all of them are really hot, but I also like them for their personality.
Ken is kind, sweet, and cares about everything. He had the freaking crest of Kindness! I care about a lot of people, too, in a very motherly/sisterly way. I see that I share qualities with Ken, and so I like him.
Quatre is SO concerned about others' feelings, he would lie about his feelings or physical condition so as to not bother anyone. He would die for his friends, and I could possibly see him dying while tying up one of their wounds; bleeding himself to death. I can also be overly concerned about the feelings of others (like my mom), at times, and sometimes don't say/ do things out of extreme consideration. So I also see a part of myself in Quatre, as well, and therefore, I love him so much. ^_^
Li is a lot of eye candy, but he's also such a sweet and sensitive kid. He cares about Sakura so much, that he'll do anything for her. He's also so fierce when dealing with the cards that it holds me spellbound. (brb, checking on my water for ramen... ...damn. I boiled the water down so much I had to add more & now I have to wait longer. x_x Anyway, back to Li) He's just so eloquent and powerful with the Clow Cards - its great. I love the way he reacts when Sakura's around, too. He's so cute. ^^
Edward is a newly acquired Bishonen, but he made it into the top four because of his extreme commitment to his brother, and to his principles. He believes everybody has a right to live; he wouldn't kill the brothers’ whose souls were mounted to the armor. He wouldn't admit they're not humans. He wouldn't ever forget what happened to Nina. He was so strong about those. Ed would also do anything to right his wrong and return Al's body back to normal.
So far he's spent three years trying to figure out a way to return Al back, and in the last episode (#22 Created humans), we saw how passionate Ed was, about both subjects, especially his brother. He didn't want to use those people to transform Al back. When Lust gave him an ultimatum, he wanted so badly to return Al to his body, but still did not want to kill those people. And he couldn't kill them. Ed has fire and passion for what he believes, and so much of it that it pours over into me, too - it's just so emotional. God I love him.
(checking on my ramen... ...I left it to cook so long it almost over cooked and a lot of the added water was gone. It should taste okay when it boils down. lol.)
So there you have it. I love those Bishiboys for their PERSONALITY! ^__^
I would also like to re-affirm a position/philosophy about the American-Franco relationship.
Both American and French people are greatly arrogant and proud of their country. I tend to believe America has the right to be arrogant, but that's my personal opinion (I mean, we at least have an army, we saved France's ass TWICE, and yes, we've murdered two minorities - Jpns and Native Americans, but we also didn't have a Napoleon complex, run over multiple, adjacent countries or behead countless people in our Revolution).
So where was I? Oh yeah. So, anyway, both America and France are proud and arrogant. Arrogance doesn't like it when it meets someone else who's arrogant. And therefore, we don't like France, and they don't like us.
I'm sure if I got to know some French people, they're very nice, but because of my arrogance, and the French arrogance (as a general group of people), me liking the country as a whole just isn't going to happen.
There. That was a semi-productive post. Yay! ^^

AHA
There are French kids (well, most are 18) at our school for a week. I've only met one of them, though, in one of my classes. I hear that none of them really speak a lot of English.
The one in my Chem class is so cute. His name is Pierre. But someone (a popular girl), in the locker room told me she found out that he's 18 and already has a g/f. She said "That ship has sailed." And yes, I believe her. She's popular, but she's very nice. ^^ She liked Pierre too, but she thought he was hot. lol.
I was going to actually wear something nice tomorrow and try to impress Pierre, but now I probably won't. Although I think I'll actually take the time to blow-dry my hair! *gasp* (Wah. This paragraph makes me sound shallow. I'm really not this bad!!! *waves arms frantically* ;_; )
Although, Miss Lumi did remind me to not just say stuff about Pierre or I'd make all the rest of the French kids feel bad. But the thing is - I don't know any others b/c they're not in my class. *_*;;;
And next week they're going to places like NYC and W. DC and stuffs.
In other news, I sent some of you strange PMs. Just answer them, okay? I sent them to 9 people in total. If you got one, then wow, you must have no luck whatsoever (as I've stated. ^_~). Unlucky you, getting a PM from crazy me!!! Aha!!!
Er... yeah. Later. Or not. I might be chased down by a mob formed of the people I PMed.

So this is it? I guess it isn't so bad.
No, I still haven't figured out what I was going to tell you.
I think I'm permanently scarred from last night's Smallville it's not even funny. I was flipping through the channels and I saw it. Way back when, I did like the beginning seasons, and then I stopped watching, but there was nothing on last night, so I just started watching it. But when I flipped the channel, the guy that plays Clark Kent was making out/having sex with some blond bimbo girlfriend. And his eyes were really freaky - kinda like one of those episodes where he's evil, sadistic and possessed. And I think the image is permanently branded into my mind, because I keep thinking about how creepy it is, and it's making me really uncomfortable, sitting here in my mind. >_> (And yes, I switched the channel right away. >_<)
Oh. Now I remember what I wanted to tell you all. I thought I had a craptastic computer with 15.8 GB of space. Turns out there's a kid at my school (in my grade - he's acquaintance-ish) with a computer from 1996 with 1.5 GB of space on his computer. *laughs hysterically* He has Aol 4.0 and can't do much else with it. Wow. Now I don't feel so bad. *sweatdrop* ^^;;;;;; (I know, I'm horrible.)
You know, I was reading someone else's myO. I know they've been diagnosed as clinically depressed, and they were describing a lot of feelings I've had (the similarities are freaky. o.o). Is this what depression is? Lethargy, apathy, inability to concentrate. Focusing on mundane things like watching a TV show so you don't have to think about the real world?
This is it? I guess it's not so bad.
Of course, this could be one of many forms of depression, but this isn't so bad right now. I think I can last two more years (end of high school - hell of all hells).
And the funny thing is, mean, I'm glad I turned off the comments box (It's retarded now anyway - *snickers*). If it was still on, I bet you I'd get responses about the Clark Kent or the computer thing, and there'd be nobody talking about the depression bit. And that would drive me crazy. Actually, I got depressed about the comments box for about two months. It almost quite literally drove me insane. And now I'm glad it's not in my myO. ^_____^

I Plead insanity
Just a little bit of insanity, I think. It's the real deal. That's great. ^_^
My Math teacher also sucks. She switched our seats, made me sit in the back, and I can't SEE in the back. Not to mention I'm not getting what we're doing it in class because she can't each (no, seriously, this is stuff we learned last year, and I'm not getting it now because my math teacher sucks).
I was going to say something else, but now I don't remember. I'll let you know if I do. >_<
Later.
