In rememberance
Today is December 7, 2003. 62 years ago, was "A date which will live in infamy."
The Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor (on the Hawaiian island of Oahu), December 7, 1941, was the climax of a decade of rising tension between Japan and the United States. Throughout the 1930s, Japan had been steadily encroaching on China, and the United States had been trying to contain Japan's expansion. Since America supplied more than half of Japan's iron, steel, and oil, Japan was reluctant to push the United States too far, but it was also intent on getting control of its own sources of raw materials. On September 27, 1940, Japan joined the Triple Alliance with Italy and Germany and began to expand into northern Indochina. The United States, in response, placed an embargo on aviation gasoline, scrap metal, steel, and iron. After Japan's seizure of the rest of Indochina in July 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt closed the Panama Canal to Japanese shipping and added oil to the embargo list. In October 1941 Gen. Hideki Tojo, leader of the Japanese pro-war party, became premier.
Negotiations seeking a peaceful settlement went on in Washington, but both sides seem to have decided that war was inevitable. On November 25, 1941, though continuing the discussions, the Japanese dispatched aircraft carriers eastward toward Hawaii and began massing troops on the Malayan border. American military leaders, expecting a Japanese attack on Malaya, gave only general warnings to U.S. forces in Pearl Harbor. Adm. Husband E. Kimmel and Gen. Walter C. Short, in command on Oahu, took few precautions; there was no effective air patrol, and neither ships nor planes were safely dispersed.
Japanese planes attacked Pearl Harbor at 7:55 a.m., December 7; a second wave hit an hour later. By the time the planes returned to their carriers at 9:45, most of the American planes on Oahu were wrecked; eight battleships, three destroyers, and three cruisers had been put out of action; and two battleships, Oklahoma and Arizona, were utterly destroyed. A total of 2,323 U.S. servicemen had been killed. The next day President Roosevelt spoke for the American people when, before a joint session of Congress, he proclaimed December 7 a "date which will live in infamy." With only one dissent, Congress granted Roosevelt's request to recognize the state of war that existed between the United States and Japan. With that vote, America entered World War II.

More Snow!
It's still snowing! that's good, but, sadly, school wasn't closed, it was only delayed 2 hours. It's those snow plows fault! so heres the plan...I'll go in through the rear, SG, you watch out for patrols. Iggy and Tigress with me. We go in, plant the explosives on the snow plows, and get out. If we don't have enough explosives, then we'll have an air raid over the snow plow place! hehehe....no more clear roads! MWUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Well, i just went to the Barnes and Noble bookstore close buy, and baught this cool Manga called Planetes. It's a little in the future, and it's about a crew in space that collects trash, and other crazy adventures!
Only 20 days left till Christmas! and 2 school weeks till winter break! weeeeeee!!!!
I'm countin down the days, like i do every year!
Oh, and i got a flue shot. the actual injection didn't hurt at all, infact, alot less than i'd first thought. But my arm hurts alot anyway. When that needle went in, my whole arm immediatly burst into numbness and slight pain. It must have been the stuff that got injected. Well, better than being sick, that's for sure! |

sleepy....
i'm glad today since i had no homework, and i've been playin Call of Duty since i got home. (i love that game) I need to take a nap really badly, cause i almost fell asleep in english today. i'm in a quizish mood today, so heres a fun one.
You, my psychotic little buddy, are the Murderous Pineapple. You hate people. You want to kill everyone and drink their blood. You want to watch them all die in a pool of blood. You want to hang them from a hook, chop off their leg, and poor salt on the injury. (In no particular order) You, my weird, weird, WEIRD friend, need to be committed before you do something not nice...
Poodles Pickles and Panda Bears brought to you by Quizilla
woohoo!! that was one of the best i've done in a while! great quiz here! |

Sitting at home
ugh... I had soooo much homework today. 3 hours worth, but i've had worse. I was looking down at my desk for that long, now my neck has a huge cramp. My parents just left to Carmax, to look at new cars. We might buy a used Jeep Cheroke Sport, or not. who knows.
I'm just sitting here, bored to the limits of my sanity, listening to Christmas music. I just heard the Nutcracker Suite! i love that one!
otherwise, nothing to report on, so here's a question that you can use your "imagination" *sparkly rainbow in background* to answer.

I spent my whole saturday and sunday reading and writing the book report! "The book report is due when you come back from the 4-day weekend." those were her exact words! Shes a lier! ARGH!!!
well, besides all the ranting, i've finished my homework (miraculously) and have been very...busy.....yes...busy....*cough* *Call of Duty* *cough*
So i'll finish up for the day, and go to people's sites, so a question for ya'll.

Oh well, i'm on a short reading break, and have to get back to reading soon...*yawns* And still havn't been able to play Call of Duty...i just got it, and want to play it so badly, but i have to work... maybe i should just ask for a zero on this book report, and get it over with that way. Well, a question for ya'll.

almost done!
i've almost finished my book! (if you can call halfway finished) I still have to do that report on it though... well, i found a little time here to log on, but i gotta make it quick. I got Call of Duty for the PC!!! but havn't had time to play since my work remains unfinished. T_T my trip to Best Buy was hell. I looked for a copy, but found none. I was leaving, when a saw a single copy of the game on a CD display case. I jumped for it, and gazed at it in envy. I went to the line to pay, but there were dozens of people there (damn you Christmas shoppers!!!) I was standing in line for at least 15 mins, until i finally got out. (whew!)
well, gotta get back to work, later! |
