Prologue
hey there, I’m janey, but everyone calls me the fairy girl. Ya, that's right, I’m part fairy. Ok, ok, I’m not being truthful, I’m elfin, forest to be exact, so that means, I’m tall, skinny, pale, and yes, and I have the pointy ears. Anyways, I live in none other then happy little Salem. Everyone likes me but they really think I’m weird. I’m friends with allot of magical creatures, like the witch next door and the centaur herd living in the field behind my house. They’re all really nice, I use my own magic (and yes, I said magic!) to heal others (normal human or not). I love Salem very much but I always wanted an adventure, and boy did I get one.
day 1
I was sitting in my backyard with my best friend Jonathen, he's a centaur, he was short for his age (but that's what you get for being smallest of the herd, he had black hair to the middle of his neck, and the bottom half (the horse half) was a beautiful chestnut brown, I always liked Jon, but not in the way everyone thinks. anyways, he told the most horrible news.
"ya, roger(the herd's leader) died." he said sitting in the grass next to the table I was sitting at, I always had a dark fantasy books and sweet tea with me when I was outside at that glass topped table.
"Oh I’m so sorry to hear that! I wish there was something I could do!" I said sadly and full of concern.
"There is actually!" he said excitedly. "There is! You’re the only one my whole herd trusts, and well, we need someone to choose the next leader!" he said absolutely beaming! Sweet tea was sprayed all across my glass table at the mention of me choosing! I mean, me?!
"uhhh...."I was bewildered wiping sweet tea off my chin, I never knew they chose that way, maybe this is a weird type of centaur, maybe they were part pony. "I never knew I was that trustworthy."
"You are! I mean, you're friends with everyone in Salem! Human and fairy!"
"ya but, me?! I mean come on; I’m not all that good with judgments."
"Please? You’re our only one!!!!"
"fine, who are the people 'running'?"
"Well, there's George, Dillan, Robert, and...And m-me." he said nervously. Jonathen? He’s running for leader?! That’s great! I mean, he's not all that self-confident but, he's smart! And strong!
"You’re running?!" I said amazed, mustn't have made him happy because his head went down.
"Ya, silly ain't it? Some of the girls in the herd made me."
"Silly?! It’s great! This’ll really raise your self-esteem!"
"I don't want to raise my self-esteem!" he said like it was a scary thing.
"Jon!"
"Oh fine! Fine! I’ll run! I’ll run! Sheesh!"
"That’s my centaur buddy!" I said as I got up and patted his back (well, the horse one). "I’ll just get in non stick clothes and then we can head off."
"Ok, but uh...you don't mind riding right? The herd won't go anywhere till there's a leader." he said this so nervously I laughed! Who doesn't like riding guy centaurs!?(Girl centaurs for the human guys out there) they're hot!!
"Oh ya I mind!" I said sarcastically “and me without a saddle! Come on Jon! You know me well enough to know I wouldn't care!"
"Oh! Right, sorry!” he said getting up.
"ok, just wait a while, I need a new shirt" I went inside and changed my shirt then got outside, hopped onto Jon’s back(like I said before, the horse one)and he sped off to what would be one of the biggest adventures of my life.
Night 1
Jon (the persistent guy) kept speeding along, like it was still daylight, he was such a coward he wouldn't sleep at night with his herd, sort silly really thinking that I’m here. I was like he only person he'd take a bullet for. He’s the only centaur I’d die for too though, but please people, I’m not in love with the guy, we're just really good friends. Anyways, as we sped along we jumped over something that seemed like a log, it was brown and green, but I never knew a log could look fleshy.
"Hey Jon, turn around."
"No way! I’m not stopping for anything!” he said frightfully. Well, there's more then one way to stop a centaur, I grabbed his shoulder and pulled them back. He stopped, just like a horse and reins. "Now that's just low Janey! Way below the belt!"
"Oh be quite, I just want to check something. Now be a good friend and turn around." I steered him around, the reluctant idiot doesn't like going back. When we got back to the "log" I got off Jon’s horse back (it's surprisingly comfortable) and knelt down next to the "log". I turned it over and not to my surprise, it was in fact human, at least I thought he was, he had blonde hair long enough that he had in a ponytail, his skin looked badly sunburned, he wore a very nice shade of green for a shirt and brown pants, looks like he made both himself, he was very good at it too, his shoes of course were store bought, they wear simple brown leather dress shoes, I like them, probably something the rich angry gnome in my tow would wear. I started checking vital signs and I also checked different signs for fairy like qualities.
"Pointed ears" I said as I checked, "red eyes, pointed canines (fang teeth for those who don't know), hardened and sharpened nails, I think we got ourselves a vampire." I said quite satisfied, very healthy guy. One problem though, he had a huge gash on his side which seemed to be the problem.
"A vampire?! you mean the ones that like to attack you in the middle of the night and suck your blood vampire?!"
"Please Jon! That’s just in the movies and stories! Vampires actually prefer animal's blood over ours; they are actually quite cunning and can have enjoyable conversations with anyone." I said, I could tell it still didn't make Jon feel any easier. "Come on Jon, we're gonna help him, we need a place that'll stay shady during the daytime. It seems he's been here for a couple days, we can still save him of course."
"Ok, let me get this straight" Jon was pacing nervously back and forth. "we're gonna save someone who might kill us?!"
"We’re saving someone who could become a good friend! Now come on!" I picked up the vampire and slung his limp body over my shoulder, "I’m walking for now ok? he's not gonna touch you all you scaredy cat, k?"
"Fine, but I still feel bad about this."
"What ever just help find a group of tree or something?" Jon and I searched for a while till we found a broken down and abandoned house about two miles from where we found our new unconscious blood sucking friend, and we went in of course. " Ok Jon, I need some of your hair."
"What?!...wait, which one? The tail or my hair?"
"Tail, centaur's hair is strong enough to duplicate with magic and weave into a strong bandage."
"Fine, but if he kills us in our sleep I’m blaming you." he said reaching back and pulling out a few hairs from his wiry brown tail.
"Ok, blame me all you want." I said taking the hairs. I then duplicated and magically weaved them together; it would've been too long to do it by hand. after, I did a few little healing tricks to restore most of the blood he lost and then I stitched up the huge gash and bandaged him, the bandage was actually quite soft considering a horse's(and centaur's) tail is very wiry. "Alright, now we just gotta stay here and wait to see if it was too late."
"Janey!" said Jon whining, I think he was practicing it. "We have to get back! They’ll kill me if I don't get you there! They’ll kill me twice if I come late with you, AND A VAMPIRE!!"
"Jonathen! If you want to stay half man attached to a horse I’d keep my mouth shut! Got it! You know as well as I do that I’m never going to leave someone injured alone! Not after the incident three years ago!" I think that was the only time in my own memory I’ve ever yelled at him. I could tell he felt like shit now, because his head fell down, went outside, and sat there outside the door the rest of the night. Man, I felt crappy that night. I’ve never argued like that with Jon before. all we did that night after was I kept making sure my injured friend was ok, and just sorta kept my distance from Jon, we didn't talk to each other the rest of the night.
