[FANGIRL // GO!]
hello guys! hope everyone's having a good week so far. there're only 2 more days till friday, so hang in there! ^^v yeah, i haven't left, i'm still here somewhere, getting caught up with life and with reading manga. umm, i'll skip talking about the humdrum life part and go right to MANGA!! ^o^ for the past several days, i've been reading Hikaru no Go ("HnG"; story by Yumi Hotta, art by Takeshi Obata). would anyone be familiar with the story? tho it's basically about people trying to master the Japanese board game go and competing against each other (which is very interesting in itself...even for a person who generally sucks at board games ^_^;;), it's amazing to watch how the charas develop and grow as they walk the paths of their dreams. so far, over the two-yr time span btwn vol.1 and vol.17, i can really see Hikaru, the title chara, growing up and maturing from a goofy 6th grader into a confident 9th grader. i really have fun reading HnG. :D of course, there're some tear-jerking moments as well. and don't underestimate the power of go, many of the game cliffhangers have kept me up reading past 5a.m.! ^_^;
rather than reading on my compy tho, i'd prefer to be actually holding the tankoban in my hands and reading it on paper, to be able to better enjoy the story and its beautiful, clean artwork. [warning: rant ahead..] but VIZ's inconsistent publishing schedule is annoying the heck out of me. vol.1 of HnG was released back in may 2004; vol.2 in sept 2004; the newest vol.3 in feb 2005 (that was a very long wait!!); and vol.4 won't be availabe till june of this year. if things should continue at this irrectic and snailish pace, it'll take eons for all 23 volumes to come out! well, not eons, just probably a DECADE. >_<;; ok. maybe i understand that HnG isn't as exciting or as popular as Shounen Jump's other titles, like DBZ or RK (which has earned itself a monthly release date at the loss of quality editing), or even the newer Naruto, YYH, or Bleach etc., but still, how about picking up the pace a little!! >o< (<< not a patient person u_u;;)
with regard to VIZ or any other publishing company, does anyone else have bones to pick, stuff to rant/rave about, stories to tell? i've lots to rant about in this department, but i'll save it for another day, lol. ^_^;; in the end tho, guess i've to keep in mind that if not for these companies, we wouldn't even have the luxury of reading manga in North America. i shouldn't complain...too much, anyways. ^_^;
and so i chose HnG as the 1st theme for march. it's really bright and cheery, right? (even tho i'm still attached to dark colors ^_^) well, guess i'm off to go visit your sites! yikes, so many of you have updated during the past couple days, i'm really sorry i missed out on all of it. it's going to take a while to catch up, ne? ^_^;; well, i'm off. till next time, take care! ^o^ |
