Last Action Hero
I'm always amazed at how few old song and movie references the newer generations actually understand. Growing up I was here for the advent of the computers (80-90) So I've gone though alot, seen alot and listened to alot of music. My current collection includes the big hair bands of the 60-70, the old school jazz, the old school blues, massive 80's sets, a bit of 90's( mostly alternative, Dave mathews, Hooty and the blowfish, Police, and so on.)
I once amazed a few grandpeople with my knowledge of Nat King Cole. I know all the original versions of the songs Britney and her copies sing. All the rap remakes, the R&B remixes. I've been through it all.
Hell, the title of this blog is a Schwarzenegger movie from 93.
Anyway, heres the last part of the chapter I started last post(Read it if you haven't):
There was something going on, a fire fight. The two ran to the corner of the corridor; Junsei peered around. A nurse and someone else were held up in sick bay. The hall was filled with debris and a few dead bodies. Junsei turned to Ayumi, “ I want you to run to the room on the right as fast as you can. ” Ayumi nodded. Junsei edged to the corner of the left wall and called to the other two, “We are in need of shelter. I am sending one now.” The nurse nodded as she fired into the enemy, “ Run Ayumi! ” Ayumi tripped a little as she started to run, Junsei spun around and started to fire.
Everything went black. There was a loud ringing in her ears. Junsei rubbed her eyes, her sight was blurry and she couldn’t hear anything but the ringing. She pushed herself against the wall and sat herself up. There was an explosion. Something cold ran down her right arm, she looked at it. A piece of metal was lodged in her shoulder. She limply turned her head to look at the hall, a small body lay covered with debris. Ayumi!
Junsei crawled with her good arm over to the girl’s side, “Ayumi?” She started to clear away the debris. Someone knelt next to her and helped. It was the other person, not the nurse; her face was covered in soot and blood.
Once the debris was cleared, Junsei checked Ayumi’s pulse. Not again. She felt it; it was slow, but it was there. The woman picked her up and carried her back to the room. Junsei followed. As they entered, the nurse began to restack the storage containers for cover. “Rina, how is she?” She asked.
The woman grabbed the triquarter by the door and scanned Ayumi, “Not good, her pulse is continuing to drop and she has internal bleeding.”
Junsei started to scrounge through a near by bin. She took out two vials, one with a green solution and the other with a clear. She opened up another and took out an adrenaline shot. After emptying some of the shot, she put both the green and clear solutions in it to fill it back up. The nurse looked back up as Junsei sat next to Ayumi’s body, “What’s that?” The nurse asked as Junsei started to feel around Ayumi’s chest. She noticed the color of the solution in the shot, “She is not immune, you’ll kill her.”
Junsei ignored the nurse and pressed on Ayumi’s sternum. She took a deep breath as she moved her hand, “Hold her down.” The nurse looked at Junsei trying to will her to stop with her eyes, but complied all the same. Junsei stabbed the needle into Ayumi’s heart. The nurse tensed as Ayumi started to convulse. The woman scanned Ayumi again, “Her pulse is rapid, she’s hyperventilating.”
The nurse looked at Junsei, “I told you not to do that!”
Junsei ignored her again and went over to a storage cabinet. She opened it and removed everything from it. She then pressed on the back wall, a small door opened. In it were four hypos with a red solution in them. She took one and altered the default dosage to her size and age. Breathing deep, she injected it into her neck. Her body tensed and the room began to spin.
“Her pulse is steadying,” The woman informed, “She is in an almost stasis like sleep. The internal bleeding has slowed because of it.”
The nurse breathed a sigh or relief, “I can’t believed that worked.” The nurse looked at Junsei, who was removing the containers from the door, “What are you doing now?”
“Need to charge my shields.” She said flatly.
“How did you know that shot would work?”
“Adrenaline makes the blood move faster, barrier solution protects the DNA, tyrium promotes healing.” Junsei’s voice trailed as she left the room.
The nurse shook her head and went back to looking over Ayumi, “Poor girl.”
“Which one?” The woman asked.
“Good question. Who is that girl?”
“Don’t know. I think she’s originally from the Raven.” The woman looked out the door; Junsei was kneeling by one of the bodies, “That blood on her, I don’t think it’s her own. She has a sword on her back pack.”
“You think she fought with that all the way here?”
“At least till she picked up one of their rifles.”
The nurse shivered, “Scary.”
“I’ve heard rumors,”
“Rumors?”
“That a girl her age has been doing training at fairly high levels in the simulator.”
“Why would she do that?”
“Don’t know,” The woman noticed Junsei walking back, “What ever the reason, I don’t think she wants anyone to know.”
The woman made room for Junsei to enter, “Where is everyone else?” Junsei asked as she sat against the wall by the door.
The woman shook her head, “I think they were captured. Those of us that are left must either be because of they ran out of holding space or they couldn’t teleport us from the rooms we were in.”
“Maybe,” Junsei sighed, “Who are they, anyway?”
“Zanearians.” The nurse answered, “They breathe methane, which is why they have the suits. Their technology rivals our own.”
“That explains the cut off.”
Junsei got up and went over to a cabinet. She took out some gauze and pulled the shrapnel from her arm, “But in all likelihood the bridge is still safe.” She spoke through her teeth as she wrapped her wound, “Problem is, there is currently no way to get there. The access path is out there somewhere and there are probably more of them on the upper decks.” She tossed the gauze back into the cabinet, “But we can’t hold out much longer here.” She knelt next to the nurse and looked at Ayumi, “How is she?”
“Same as before, still in a coma.” The nurse brushed Ayumi’s bangs from her eyes, “Where did you learn to fight?”
Junsei stood up, “Keep watch over her, I need to get to engineering.”
The other two looked at Junsei, wide eyed, “What?!”
“If I can reset the drive, I can get a distress call out to the Raven. “
The nurse stood up and stopped Junsei from walking away, “No! I won’t allow it.”
Junsei clinched her fists and lowered head, “Let go of me,” Her tone was low and harsh, “What does it matter why I fight? Someone has to do it.” She twisted out of the nurse’s grasp, “Do you always give up so easily?” With that she left sick bay.
Why do people have to be so nosey? Junsei fell against the lift doors, her breathing raspy and her body felt heavy. I’ll show them, I will protect Ayumi. No matter what. She took the hypo from her pocket and injected some more into her neck. Just a little bit more. She turned to the door and wedged a piece of shrapnel into the crack, prying the door open. The air inside the shaft was stagnant. Junsei stepped out into the shaft and flew up a few decks. From here I need to get to the access shaft that runs through decks ten and twelve. Once on twelve I need to move up to eleven and then down to fourteen.
Sprinting down the debris filled corridor, Junsei checked the doors. Most were locked; others were already cleaned out. She needed more weapons.
