Frozen Memory

__________________________
It feels just like yesterday... and yet a lifetime ago.
He came down from the sky and her life left her body. Just like that she was gone. I’ll never forget that day. That picture still in my mind and will be until the day I die. That memory... frozen in time. A Frozen Memory.
Some times I have to ask myself, “why?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She kneeled there locked in prayer.
Smiling with her eyes closed. As she opened them she saw the one she loved. She smiled... the smiled to be forever etched into his mind. For just as the loving smile came across her face the great Sephiroth jumped from the sky and stabbed his mighty sword into her back. She fell limp to the floor. Not a trace of life to be found in her body. She was dead.
“Aeris... she’ll never laugh, cry... love, or even get angry again.” He said.
Sephiroth jumped into the air and said, “Remember, Cloud... Your just a puppet.”
“I’m no body’s puppet!!” Cloud screamed shooting up. He looked around to see that he was in the palace in Agrabah. Cloud breathed heavily.
He put his hand over his face and said, “Another nightmare...” He paused.
“Oh great! I’m turning into Vincent.”
Cloud lay back down in the bed he was lying in.
The next morning Cloud woke up and went into the palace dining room.
“Oh! So you’re awake.” Princess Jasmine said.
“I’ll need to be moving on.” Cloud said, “I’ll be going to the Coliseum.”
Jasmine smiled and said, “Well, at least have some food.”
“No thanks.” Cloud murmured.
“Then I’ll let you be on your way.” She said.
Cloud left the palace and went into the plaza.
He seemed to be alone but all of a sudden a large amount of heartless came forth from the ground. “What?” Cloud said drawing his huge Buster Sword.
“Those! Those were the things that destroyed our world... took me from her.”
He attacked the heartless and destroyed them all quick and effortlessly.
“That was very good.” Said a voice.
“Who’s there!” Cloud said gripping his sword.
A blue fiery man stepped out from the shadows, “That was quite a show.” He said, “Hades, lord of the dead, how ya doin’?”
“What do you want from me.” Cloud said.
“Well, I need a certain Keyblade Master, well... how do I put this? Knocked off.” Hades said.
“What do I get out of this deal?” Cloud said putting his sword away.
Hades smiled snapped his fingers, a flame appeared. In that flame was a image of Aerith looking out of a window.
“Aerith!” Cloud shouted reaching for the flame. But before he could touch it the flame faded.
“I can get you this and much more!” Hades smirked, “All you need to do is sign the dotted line!” Hades created a contract and quill from thin air.
“Fine. You’ve got yourself a deal.” Cloud said taking the pen and signing, Cloud Strife.
“Good going son! Now, I’d also like you to kill a ‘hero’ when you get the chance. Okay, thanks! Now be at the Coliseum no later than tomorrow, or else you’ll miss the games. Bye now!” And Hades vanished in a flame.
I’ve controlled darkness before, I’ll do it again. Cloud thought heading towards the world exit.
Later Cloud finally reached the Coliseum.
He walked into the main lobby. A small Sader standing there putting up a poster.
“Hey,” Cloud said.
“Waddya want?” He said.
“The names Cloud. I’m here to compete in the games.” Cloud said.
“Oh, so ya wanna be a hero, eh?” The sader said.
“Once is enough for me.” Cloud said.
“Well first to prove yer strength ya have to push that block over there! Oh, and the names Phil.” Phil said pointing to large block against the right wall.
Cloud clenched his fist. “I don’t have time for this!!” He took out his massive sword and struck the block and it broke into many pieces.
“Two words for ya, whoa.” Phil said staring at Cloud, sword in hand.
“Yer in!” Phil added.
“You mean it?” Cloud said putting his sword away.
“Yeah, come on in.” Phil said.
Cloud looked at Phil and said, “Oh, oka...”
Just then the doors flew open and a man with silver hair stepped through the doors.
Clouds eyes opened wide at the sight of the man.
“Y-you....” Cloud said shaking. “I’m going to kill you!!!” He ran towards the man and drew his sword. “You’re gonna pay!”
The man took out his long sword and blocked Cloud’s attack. He smirked.
“I’ll get revenge for what you did for Aerith!” Cloud said tears welling up.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! No fighting outside of the games!” Phil said.
The silver haired man stepped back and put his sword away.
Cloud still stood sword in hand.
“Puppets don’t belong here, Cloud.” The man said walking into the tournament area.
“Sephiroth!” Cloud screamed.
“Ya know that guy?” Phil said looking at the door and then at Cloud.
“...Yes. Very well.” Cloud said putting his sword away.
“I hired him to come here to be the Platinum Match. Only the best can face him. I hear he’s pretty good.” Phil said.
“Yeah, you could say so.” Cloud replied.
Cloud walked into the tournament area and entered his ring.
He sat around until he heard Phil shout, “Hey, Cloud yer up!”
“Right!” Cloud said holding on to his colossal sword.
The changer walked in. It was a young boy no older than 14.
But... he’s so young! Cloud thought. About the same age I was in SOLDIER!
The battle started and the young boy attacked!
Cloud blocked his odd weapon. A key? Cloud thought. This boy fights with a key??
The boy used several combos on Cloud.
Cloud attacked the boy and knocked some off.
The boy countered with aerial attacks and magic.
“Is that the best you got!” Cloud cried out attacking the boy lowering him to few hp.
The boy quickly used a potion to revive his fallen hit points.
I’ve just about had enough of this! Cloud thought.
Cloud’s body charged and one giant wing burst from his back.
“Let’s go!” Cloud shouted attacking the boy with extreme force and speed.
The boy looked annoyed and he attacked Cloud taking the last of his hp with him. Cloud was defeated.
As he fell to the floor Cloud said, “Aerith I’ll come...” and he passed out.
“Cloud, Cloud!” A sweet voice said. “Wake up!”
Cloud opened his eyes to see a beautiful woman standing over him.
“Is it.... is it really you...?” Cloud said.
“Yes! It’s me Cloud.” The woman said.
Cloud sat up to see that he was in the church in Midgar. He looked around at the setting he knew all too well. He turned and gazed at the woman.
“Aerith...?” He said.
The woman smiled, “Yes.” She said, “It’s me.”
Cloud sat there staring at his beloved.
“Is something wrong?” She said.
“I’ve.... I’ve waited so long for this. I thought...” Cloud paused.
“I know.” Aerith added. “Well I’m here aren't I?”
Cloud reached out and touched Aerith’s soft face.
“It... it really is you.” Cloud said trying to keep back the tears.
“Yeah.” Aerith said.
A smile came across Cloud’s face.
“Aerith...?” Cloud said after a long pause.
“Yes?” Aerith replied.
“Can I... may I... let me hold you... just once.” Cloud said.
Aerith smiled. “No.” She said.
“What? But why?” Cloud said confused.
“If you hold on to me you’ll let go of reality. This place... that we’re in. It isn’t real. You’re just asleep. All this is, is a memory... Frozen in time a memory still stands strong.” Aerith paused. “Your emotions, and mine, are reacting to each other here. My feelings for you and yours for me. Cloud, I never wanted to hurt you. It was just something I had to do.”
“What do you mean?” Cloud said hesitantly.
“I didn’t want to hurt you when I died. I thought you’d forget about me after I was gone. I wasn’t happy that you would but I knew you would have.” A tear rolled down Aerith’s cheek. “But I was wrong. You didn’t forget, you lived in the few moments we had. You stayed in our memory. The Frozen Memory...”
“Aerith!” Cloud said reaching out to her but she disappeared. And when he looked around the church was gone too. “Aerith...?”
“Aerith!!” Cloud screamed waking up again.
“Whoah, whoah! Ya were sayin’ that a lot in your dream, so... Who’s Aerith?” Phil said.
“Some one I once knew. So where’s the kid.” Cloud said sitting up.
“Still battling Cerberus, the kid’s got guts.” Phil said.
Cloud stood up.
“Yeah... I can’t believe he beat me.” Cloud said.
“Oh, getting conceded are we? I gotta admit you’re pretty good. But that boy... there’s somethin’ about him.”
“That blade.” Cloud said.
“What? Oh you’s mean the kid’s sword.” Phil said.
“Yeah, I’ve never seen anything like it.” Cloud said looking over at his Buster Sword that was propped up in the corner.
“It’s called the Keyblade... I think.” Phil said.
“Hey Phil, I’m gonna step outside okay?” Cloud said.
“Fine by me. Get some fresh air.” Phil said.
Cloud grabbed his sword and walked out into the main courtyard, he sat down on the steps by the world exit.
“Aerith...” Cloud said closing his eyes.
“That was awesome!” Cried an existed voice. “Huh?”
Cloud opened his eyes to see Sora and his party standing there looking at him.
“I’m looking for some one. Hades said he would help. I thought I could control the darkness but it backfired. I.. I don’t understand it.” Cloud said.
“I’m looking for some one too.” Sora said.
“Well a word of advice kid, If you find what you’re looking...” Cloud said.
He walked up to Sora and handed him the Sonic Blade. “Don’t loose sight of it.”
Sora looked down at the item that was given to him and when looked up Cloud was gone.
I won’t loose sight, Sora thought, I won’t loose you Kairi... Never.
Sora lay on the couch in Cids shop staring at the ceiling. He turned over and closed his eyes. It was late at night and Donald was at his nephew's shop and Goofy was laying on the other couch.
“Hey Sora, how’s your relationship with Kairi doing!?” Tidus said.
“Shut up!” A young Sora replied.
“Don’t pick on him!” Wakka scolded.
“Oh, how’s Lulu?” Tidus teased.
“L-Lu!? Don’t you talk about her you here me!?” Wakka yelled at Tidus.
“Watcha doing??” Selphie said walking up.
“Talking about every body’s crushes!” Tidus said.
“Crushes??” Selphie said blushing.
“Yeah, Crushes. I know all about Irvy Kinnypoo!”
“HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HIM???” Selphie said getting flustered.
“Hey Irvy, wanna pway? ...Heh, heh... WAR!!” Tidus said rolling around laughing.
“Heeeey! That was a long time ago.” Selphie said.
“What about you Tidus? Didn’t YOU ever have a crush on some one?” Sora said crossing his arms.
Tidus smiled and closed his eyes. He laid back and looked up at the blue sky and said, “Yeah... There was some one. It wasn’t like a crush... more like I was in love.”
“In... love...??” The three said.
“Yeah, but it wouldn’t work. She was an important person and I was... well me.” Tidus paused, “I wonder how she’s doing now.”
“Heh, love... how sweet.” Selphie said with her eye twitching.
“Y-yeah... sweet and sick at the same time.” added Sora.
“Let’s laugh and make fun of him, ya?” Wakka said.
The three laughed at Tidus and he started blushing.
“You have no idea what happened! She loved me to! We were ‘lovers,’ okay!!!”
The three grew silent.
“Tidus, you perv.” Sora said.
“You make me sick.” Selphie cut in.
“Let’s kick him, ya?” Wakka added.
“That didn’t come out right! It’s not what it sounded like!” Tidus said.
“Hey, lets go tell Riku and Kairi.” Said Selphie.
“Ya.” Wakka said.
“I’m all for that.” Sora added.
“GUYS!!!” Tidus screamed as the three walked away.
Sora opened his eyes and said, “Why did I dream... about that?”
He rolled over and looked at the fan, spinning and spinning. It almost made him sick.
He closed his eyes trying not to look at the fan.
“Ah, so you’ve had one to?” Sora heard Goofy say.
“Guess you could say so. Her name was Shera, made the best $#@^ tea on the whole $#@^ planet!! She died right before the world was destroyed. But when I went to her grave to place some flowers the grave was dug up and the body was missing. I swore I’d kill who ever did that to her. I swore I’d kill their $#@^, $#@^!!!!!!!!” Cid banged his fist against the table.
Goofy stood silent. “My wife’s name was Penny. She was a member of the King’s gummi ship bridge crew. On one of the missions she was M.I.A... later they found her body, covered in blood, she didn’t have a heart... she was dead. By the looks of it, seeing as we have no leads, we might never find Kairi. I don’t know what poor Sora would do if we didn’t.” Goofy said.
Sora buried his head in his pillow, he didn’t want to hear any more.
“Shh!” Cid said, “That $#@^ kid might be awake!”
“I’m gonna go to bed now. Night Cid.” Goofy said.
“Night.” Cid climbed up the ladder and shut the door. Goofy laid down on the other couch and went to sleep. But Sora couldn’t. He couldn’t stop think about Kairi, and about what Cloud told him.
A few hours later he finally fell asleep.
