Paperclip Project 2007
Have anyone ever heard of the Whitwell School Paperclip Project?
You see, I am in eighth grade at Herring Cove Jr. High (HCJH) as we have just completed a histoical event today. We took 100,000 paperclips, hung them together in chains of 90, and hung them in our Social Stidies classroom. The idea was our Social Studies Teacher, Mr. McIntyre's, but the origional paperclip was created by Whitwell School in Tennisse.
But, you see, in Whitwell, they put all their paperclips (6 million, which stood for all the jews who died in the Holocaust) and dumped them into a large bucket. We are the first school on earth to hang them, to truely show how many souls it was.
The 100,000 paperclips that we hung up, the classroom was so filled with them we could bearly walk around the outside. It would take 60 classrooms of them, just to reach 6 million. The number truthfully hurts my head. Its hard to imagine.
I was truely honoured to take place in this project. And althgough it took weeks (we had to put all the paperclips together with out hands) and our teacher sometimes drove us up the wall, we learned things that I will never forget in all my life. I took part in a historical event, and I am very proud of the accomplishments that we have achieved.
The subject we learned about was morbit, and at times I cried. We even had a survivor come in and tell us of his time in a concentration camp. It was horrible. But I will ask you a question: How many of the children they killed in their gas chambers could have found the cure for AIDs or HIV? One could have created a alternative fuel, and our global warming would not be as bad. Another could have wrote prize-winning book. But no, they were never given the chance because they were a jewish soul.
As I said, I was honoured to take place in this project. It had opened my eyes.
Well, that's it. I'm sorry for making this so long, I just thought I'd share it all with you. Please, give me feedback, I would love to hear thoughts on this. =]
Edit: Also, you can go to a fanart of mine, I've explained it there too, though it is pretty much the same thing as here. The link is : http://fanart.theotaku.com/view.php?action=retrieve&id=191656 . Thank you.
