Kotetsushin Jeeg and some Genshiken
I finished Kotetsushin Jeeg on Friday. It's a decent 13-episode mecha series that very much has an old-school super robot feel with plenty of hot blood and yelling. That's always a good thing, especially since it's a sequel to a 1970s Go Nagai series Kotetsu Jeeg, making it even more fitting. You don't need to have seen the original series though since it's not quite a direct sequel. Some liberties are taken from the original story, and enough back story is explained to fill in newcomers. There's some depth, but not much. It's good for watching a giant robot fight, and the characters are decent as well, although not too original if that would turn you off. All in all, it was a fun watch, and at 13 episodes, it's a fun watch that isn't time consuming.
Also, I've now seen the first four episodes of Genshiken 2. It's a great addition to the series, worthy of the first series and the original manga. There are some changes done due to when characters were introduced and other reasons that may actually work better than originally in the manga. |
