Visionaries Episode 2 : Fall of the Dark Angel

“I’m not going to school!”

“The hell you’re not! I spend money for you to go there you know! Besides, you need an education nowadays to go anywhere in life!”

“I promised Kyomi that I’d go swimming with him today.”

“Oh, so now your boyfriend comes before your future?”

“Whatever mom, I’m going whether you like it or not.”

“Don’t walk away from me Rachael.”

“Don’t wait up for me either, I’m not coming back this time.”

Rachael simply opened the front door to her home and slammed it shut as she walked out to Kyomi’s car across the street. A young man in the car looked over his shoulder as Rachael headed his way.

“What took so long? I take it you had another argument?”

“So are we going swimming, or what?”

“I was just waiting on you…”

“Well, since I’m here, what are we waiting on?”

“For you to get in the car.”

“Heh, smartass…”

Rachael hopped into Kyomi’s convertible and he stuck it in reverse and pulled out of his driveway, then burned out as they started down the road.

**********************************

Rachael’s head began to bounce slightly as Kyomi cranked the stereo to a louder than tolerable level as Kyomi began to lip sing the words. The scene of a lake appeared in the distance. Seconds later, Kyomi pulled his car into a parking slot. Kyomi decided to leave the engine running as he turned to Rachael.

“So, the real reason you wanted to be with me today is…”

“To hang out, duh…”

“Well, we are an item you know, so… like maybe we could do stuff that boyfriends and girlfriends do… like get it on… to put it simply.” Kyomi stated bluntly as he winked at Rachael.

“Hehehe… you have to be kidding me, right? With you? Hehehehehe…”

“You are my girlfriend, right?”

“Yah, but you know that’s not why I’m dating anyone.” Rachael sighed as she continued, “I just, “

Kyomi cut her off at that, “You just think that I’m like all the rest of the guys at school?”

“No shit, dumbass.”

“Hey, why do you have to get defensive all of a sudden? You’re the dumbass if you think that we’re going to date longer than 3 months without even kissing once. I know you have to be itching for some company. I don’t mean to come off as an asshole, but you’re looking at the best option you have for that right now.”

“First of all, I wouldn’t stoop as low as to kiss a scumbag like you. I mean, you act all high and mighty cause you have a cool car, a hot chick for a girlfriend, which would be me of course, and that you’re the son of one of the Senators of this state. May I remind you that you are just one of the guys from my school according to me, and if you continue to push yourself on to me, I may need to remind you as well, that you can DIE just like them also. Push my buttons further and I may enjoy it.” Rachael stated coldly as she got out of the car.

Kyomi just sat there staring at her for a minute. “I don’t deserve this shit. See you later.” He said as he peeled out in reverse and continued to peel out as he left Rachael in the lake parking lot. As he left, “Bitch!” escaped his lips.

“Arrogant bastard… I wish I could just slide a knife into his mouth as he’s talking to me sometimes and save him the trouble he causes himself. Screw it, I’m going swimming anyway.” Rachael said to herself under her breath. As she turned around, she noticed two kids about five or six standing in front of her. “What are you looking at? Shouldn’t you be asking your parents for ice cream by now?”

“Gosh, what’s a bastard?” one asks the other.

“Probably your dad’s nickname. VOMINOS!!!” Rachael hollered as she pointed towards the beach.

The two kids, caught off guard, began to run off bawling. A smile crept over her face as she began to walk towards the beach. I’m so evil. She thought to herself.

**********************************

Rachael looked at her watch as she noticed storm clouds forming above her while she listened to some music, headphones and all. 7:00. Heh, it’s getting late. Not like I have a curfew or anything like that anymore. I came here to go swimming though, so why the hell am I still on the beach? She got up and headed for the water as a lightning strike flashed behind her. She turned and looked behind her for an unknown reason and noticed a shadow move in a way that if couldn’t. She paid no attention however as she ran out into the water as the clouds began to darken.

**********************************

Rising to the surface and pulling the hair away from her face, Rachael looked around her and notice the water was beginning to get really choppy. As she looked at the clouds, she lost all sense of why she was out swimming. Oh shit, I hope there isn’t a tornado forming. Lightning struck in the distance, spooking her slightly. I think I had better get out of the water. Screw going home though, I can find some place to stay for tonight. That’s when she realized where she was in the lake, dead center. Shit, why can’t I ever swim like normal people. She cursed at herself. She looked around at her surroundings again as the wind began to pick up even more. She saw a buoy in the water only a few hundred feet from her and decided to swim towards it to plan her next path. On the way, it began to pour heavily and the wind got even worse. I shouldn’t be out here, but hey, if I die… hmmmm…

After a few minutes of swimming, Rachael reached the buoy which seemed to be anchored to the bottom of the lake by a metal shaft. Not the best place, but it’ll have to do for now. She told herself as she climbed out of the lake and onto the buoy. She then noticed something on the surface of the water that wasn’t a boat, but looked like some sort of panther.

“Huh? What the hell is that thing?” She asked herself out loud. Right then, she felt a cold chill in the air and the hair on the back of her neck stood up. “AH, SHIT!” she yelled as a bolt of lightning struck the buoy, sending electrical surges through her drenched body and catapulting her off the buoy’s platform into the water. Through her distorted vision as she fell into the water, she noticed that the panther-like creature that she saw was heading her direction at a high speed. Rachael splashed into the lake paralyzed from the lightning strike that hit the platform she used as a safe-haven and sunk only a few feet down, but in that distance, her left arm and right leg both got tangled up in the chains that attached the platform to the buoy, keeping her beneath the lakes surface. At this point, Rachael’s mind was telling her that she was in trouble, and she began to kick and thrash violently to release herself from the chains, but to no avail cause she was basically comatose from the lightning strike just seconds earlier. She held her breath, but found that hard to do as well being upside down in the water with chains restricting any movement she made, no matter how weak they were. I’m going to drown right here in my home town. Such irony. She thought as the last of the air in her lungs escaped through her lips and the water replaced it. Her last vision was two of the panther-like creatures effortlessly phasing to the surface of the lake and then, the light consumed her, but quickly turned to a blood-red light.

**********************************

Rachael was standing in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by this intense crimson light as far as she could see. She looked around for a second and then a figure appeared. A young man, who looked to be about twenty with no hair and no eyes at all took a step toward her. In the place of his eyes was a vast void of darkness that seemed as dark as space with no stars.

“Rachael…” the man said as he shook his head.

“Yeah?”

“You haven’t repented, have you?” The man began to walk circles around her, examining her.

“Like, what the hell are you talking about freak? Am I dead or something?”

“Yes, you are, but depending on what you say here depends on whether or not you stay that way.”

“OK, too much to think about, just let me die, I’ve kind of been wondering what it’s like. You don’t need to save me.”

“Save you? I’m not here to do that. I’m here to enlist you.”

“Enlist huh? Go fuck yourself… I don’t serve, I rule…”

“Hehehe… spunky. Cold, detached, and lonely… Just what I’m looking for in a warrior.”

“Ok, warrior I can handle.” Rachael stated as if she was slightly gaining interest. “What are you asking, I’ll give you that much to say, no more. Short and sweet.” she finished as she crossed her arms.

The man just continued walking in circles. “I know you have no beliefs in a God, or in Satan, “the Devil”, Lucifer, son and so forth, but guess what?”

“Hmmm?”

“They exist… and they’re having problems. Someone out in existence somewhere has decided to weasel in on the feud between my master and God. This makes Satan very upset, cause ‘HOW THE HELL ARE WE TO TAKE OVER HEAVEN WITH THIS SHIT IN THE WAY!’. Those were his exact words by the way…” the man said as he used the quotation gesture as he spoke the quote. “This guy or girl or whatever has made enemies of both Heaven and Hell, and currently, we are working together to rid existence of this threat. What the purpose of this being is, I don’t give a shit about, but I do care that I’m getting my ass reamed by my master about the situation.” he continued until Rachael cut him off.

“Oh waa-waa, just who are you?”

“Beelzebub, at your service miss prissy.” he said as he took a bow.”

“Sweet. This must be important if Hell’s second in command is talking to me personally.”

“Quite… but I can say that right now, if you choose to deny my offer to help us, you’re going to end up in the realm that this meddler has created.”

“Why’s that?”

“Cause that bastard took the liberty of using my master’s rebellion in Heaven as a distraction to link his realm to all others, the dream realm, the spiritual realm, Heaven, Hell, and Earth. So in essence, there are 6 realms now, and one IS NOT WANTED.” he stated sternly. He then gave a blank stare and blinked leisurely. “Sorry, I lost my composure there for a moment. So I am asking you now, are you going to help us and continue living, or die and become a puppet?”

“I’m a puppet either way it seems like. But one seems to offer some benefits?”

“You mean like a second chance at life, to kill things, to do the right thing, even if it is kind of helping the enemy of mankind?”

“Yeah.”

“So, I take it that your answer is yes.”

“Take it how you wish, but I’m only doing this out of my own personal gain. By the way, do I get some kind of powers?” Rachael asked in anticipation.

“Yes, you get powers, but they will be limited and observed, so you can’t use them at free-will all the time. You have to take into consideration that we’re handing you the world, but with hand-cuffs attached alright?”

“Damn!”

“Do you agree with these terms?” Beelzebub asked.

“Terms?” Rachael responded confused.

Beelzebub walked to her and placed his hand over her head as a distortion formed from his palm. All sorts of visions blurred through Rachael’s mind for a few seconds and then Beelzebub pulled his hand away. “Those terms?”

“Whatever… I guess. But, let’s get this straight, if I’m to help you… I’m no one’s bitch, understand?”

“Sure… but you’re so good looking…” Beelzebub said flirtatiously.

“Heh, like I’d want to do anything with you, freak. You’re like, older than existence. So… uh… NO!”

“Alright, so be it… Later, doll.”

As the blood-red vision faded, Rachael irked at the thought of Beelzebub actually showing interest in her. “DOLL! Who the hell does he think he is? I don’t care if he is Hell’s second in command, he’s just a stupid moron thinking like all the other men I know.” Rachael’s vision grew dark.

THEY SEND YOU TO FIGHT FOR THEM?… HAHAHAHA!!!

THE ONE WITH THE WEAKEST SPIRIT OF THEM ALL?

THEY MUST BE DESPERATE…

YOU’RE SOUL WILL CEASE TO EXIST JUST LIKE ALL THAT HAVE COME BEFORE YOU… DON’T STAND IN MY WAY…

The voice faded as a view of flashing ambulance lights, three paramedics, and Kyomi replaced the darkness.

**************TWO WEEKS LATER***************

“Well, tonight we have some good news for all of you. Apparently Rachael has recently been released from St. Joseph’s hospital on Thursday. The girl had been struck by lightning and drowned in Lake Miola down in Paola two weeks ago, but through the heroic actions of her boyfriend and some fast-responding paramedics, Rachael was revived and had made a full recovery at the hospital. Our viewers continued support ----”

Rachael turned off the TV in annoyance.

“People just think I’m a pity-case now. What the hell?” she said as she stood up and stretched while yawning. “I’m bored now. I think I might take a look into this Purgatory that B’bub told me about. I’m kinda curious, maybe, it’ll be my new hangout. Hehehe…” she snickered as she thought of the place described to her by Beelzebub. Rachael then stared at the floor for a second. “Alright, ‘concentrate on the suffering’, I can do that…” she stood motionless for a few more seconds as she closed her eyes which now were two different colors. When she opened them, her eyes were glowing a bright, and brilliant blue. Her hair began to float as if there was no gravity in the room and the room itself began to lose the pigment of color as dark colors became a shade of black and brighter ones, turned to different shades of gray.

“I call upon the Darkness, to consume me, as I prepare to fight the one we call “Death”. PURGATORY!!! I command you to take me!” she chanted.

Papers began to fly around in Rachael’s living room as a big gust of bitter wind encircled her. When the wind died down, Rachael’s body fell limp.

**********************************

Rachael awoke on a pad of concrete which appeared to be the foundation of her home. Around her was a grayed landscape that also appeared to be the scenery around her home, but in this realm, it was a wasteland. No colors, just all shades of gray and black. The only color in her eyes was herself, but not the clothes she was wearing. They too were pigmented like the world in which she laid.

“Heh… A Hastat.” spoke someone above her.

Rachael stood up. “A what?”

“A Hastat, ‘Death seeker’, you don’t even know what you are? That’s funny.”

Rachael looked above her, but saw nothing. The person disappeared right before she was able to see them. Rachael simply thought to herself. Hmmm, a Hastat. Never heard of that before, but it’s not like I care. Then she concentrated for a second and then her feet left the ground. Sweet, I can fly, just like B’bub told me I could. Advantages, advantages. She slowly ascended as she began to get accustomed to the lack of ground beneath her feet. Time to learn how to do this. I don’t need B’bub’s guidance, I can learn on my own time.

**********************************

Rachael was swaying back and forth in the air as she floated through it as though there was no gravity. It seemed as though she was actually enjoying herself as she was wearing a smug smile on her face as she bobbed up and down. The scenery below her was a great canyon. I wonder where I’m at right now? She asked herself. Like it matters anyway. I mean, I can fly, I can fly, I can fly, I can ----- BANG!

She was cut off from her train of thought as her body smacked into something hard and she lost focus and spun away from the cliff she had just ran into.

“Stupid fucking CANYON!!! I’ll blow you into smithereens! Wait a sec- - -” she shut up as she noticed the canyon wall was moving by at a fairly rapid pace. “Oh shit!” she exclaimed as she noticed she lost her concentration on flying while she cussed the cliff. Focus. She told herself as her descent was slowed and then stopped. “That’s enough flying for me right now. I feel like a damn Looney Tunes character, running into shit like that.”

She flew back up the wall of the cliff and landed on the mesa at the top. She turned around and looked back down the edge of the mesa and cringed. Kind of a long fall there, that coulda hurt… whew. Ok, what else can I do? Hmmm… Rachael sat down on the top of the cliff to think to herself for a moment. Ok… lightning… She pointed towards the soul of a squirrel that was near a tree in front of her. ZAP!! She said as a small bolt of energy shot from her extended finger and struck the ground a couple feet from the squirrel, scaring it back into the tree.

“Damn! I missed. Alright squirrel!!! You’ve had it! I’m gonna zap you so good that you come back to life!”

Rachael put her hands together as a large aura of energy grew around them. She put one foot forward to brace herself as the aura encompassed her arms as well. The energy shot out in an arc of electricity and contacted the squirrels soul in the middle of it’s body, sending it hurdling through the tree. The tree itself split right down the middle from the force of the blast as if hit by lightning. The squirrels soul disappeared.

“Hey! What are you doing!” a voice called out hastily.

“Destroying a squirrel that pissed me off… why?” Rachael said as she turned to face the person who hollered at her.

A man appeared before her, dressed in extravagant white battle armor. “You know you just erased that soul from existence?”

Rachael returned the question with a cold, blank stare. “So, what of it.”

“That doesn’t bug you?”

“Nope.”

“There are some rules that I need to go over with you. My name is Rociel.” The man said to her bluntly as he looked down at the ground and shook his head.

**********************************

The form of a man shaped out of a blue mass of water. Rachael walked up to it calmly and then kicked it between it’s legs as hard as she could and the form exploded into a large spray of H20.

“Arrogant prick…” she whispered to herself.

“A little bottled up hostility in you I see yes…” Rociel stated sarcastically while mimicking a famous voice and floating in mid-air with his legs in Indian-style position.

“Who the hell said you could stick around anyway!” Rachael snorted at Rociel and gave him a mean look.

Rociel snapped back quickly, “Well, who gave you permission to leer at me like that?”

“Asshole…”

“Fine, I’ll go. I’ll leave you to your ‘training’.”

Rociel’s image faded from view as Rachael plopped down on the dirt. I haven’t even been here for 30 minutes and I already hate this Purgatory place. No color, which is good, but the rest is just annoying to me… I mean, all the people here congregate in one place or another like a stupid herd of animals and they’re all idiots in my opinion. I shoulda done this in my life, or I coulda done that, blah, blah, blah… quit whining already!!! I mean, c’mon, why fret, YOU’RE DEAD!! Can’t do anything about it now right? She rolled over on her back to look at the sky. Oh well… maybe I’ll try to manipulate my water doppelgangers. She stood up and concentrated for a moment as a large mass of water rose out of the ground and formed a ball shape in mid-air.

“Sweet…”

She looked at the large ball of water intently as she thought of what to do with it. After a moment she took a closer look at it, and noticed a reflection in the surface of the water: a pleasingly large Japanese-style castle. The castle looked slightly deformed and it had some strange black spikes sticking out of the ground around it that looked as though they were made of ice.

“What the… hell…” she said quietly as she turned around to face the source of the reflection. The sound of a crow came from above her. “Well, it’s decided then… that is my destination for today.”

She started towards the castle, which was up another small cliff, but before she reached the base of it, she realized something, Hmmm… I’d better not leave that ball of water just lying out in plain view for everyone to see, if might cause problems…, she turned around and spoke to her creation. “Follow me. Might as well make you useful huh?”

Rachael turned around again and started to float up the side of the small cliff as the large ball of water began heading in her direction.

**********************************

Inside a candle lit room, the image of a figure could be made out crouching on the floor in a strange posture. Another figure came in the room casually.

“She’s headed this way, lord.”

“The crane style… it’s so elegant and deadly that it can cause your opponent to lose his guard just at the mere beauty of seeing one use it…”

“Lord… did you hear me?” the other man said nervously.

“Yes… I already know, it’s of no consequence. Tell the Shadowcats to stand down. I’ll handle it.”

“Yes…” he said as he turned and exited the room.

The man in the strange stance stood up, letting his hakama return to it’s normal position. His kimono opened slightly showing an intricate tattoo or birthmark-like brand on the right side of his chest.
As he spread his arms wide, he muttered something under his breath, “Ketsueki oson yoroi!! Come forth…”

The man was enveloped in a slightly dim red light, the only color in the room, as the image of some type of Samurai armor appeared over his form. The light dimmed and the armor, black and red stood out in the grim scenery of his castle. He walked over to a small stand and removed the sword from it, lashed it to his armor and headed out the door.

**********************************

“Hmmm… I could have guessed that the door would be locked. Obviously, either no one’s home, or I’m not welcome.” Rachael turned to her large ball of water that was formed behind her. “Your show now…” she stated as she stepped away from the large entry door to the castle she saw earlier. The mass of water began to take a form of a humanoid like creature, but it’s fingers were claws instead of fingers. The water creature simply slapped its hands against the doors, pried it’s fingers into the crevasse and prepared to force them open. Then… the doors opened on their own. “Huh?…” Rachael asked no one. The water creature stepped away from the doors as they opened to their full extent, showing the bowels of the castle inside. The creature returned to the center of the courtyard and reverted back to the ball shape as Rachael took a step inside the hallway. She turned around and faced the ball of water. “Stay…” the ball of water gave some sort of confirmation sound as she headed into the castle.

“I don’t believe I have invited you to my castle young lady… state your business.” stated a man at the top of a stair well.

“Well, the doors were kind of open, so I just sort of came in. I invited myself, thank you.”

“I’d say that that is not very honorable of you. I may have to teach you a lesson.” He said as he walked down the stairs. “My name is Hitima, miss, what is your name?”

Rachael got into a fighting stance as the man continued down the stairs. “You know, you really have a nice castle here…” He doesn’t have any powers, so I think I’ll play with him a little. This could be my base when I visit here. This’ll be so cool. “I think I’ll relieve you of it.”

“Big words for such a small brat with no sense of morals.”

“Alright… FINE!!!” Rachael said angrily as she turned around and looked at the ball of water in the courtyard, nodded at it, turned back to Hitima and pointed at him vigorously. The ball of water began to take the form of a dragon as it moved toward the entrance to the castle. Hitima seemed unimpressed as he continued walking slowly toward Rachael.
“You’re a foolish one, girl.” Hitima stated as the water dragon burst into the entryway of the castle. As if charged Hitima, he simply stepped to the side of the beast’s open jaws and pulled his sword, catching the dragon across the chest area. The dragon turned around as if angered.

“Haha… you’re pathetic, all you did was piss him off Mr. Hitima. Looks like this castle will be mine in no time.”

“Sentiments are fool hardy, young one. You have a lot to learn yet.” Hitima stated as Rachael noticed a white line across the area where Hitima had cut her dragon doppelganger. It looked like frozen water. The white spot then started to grow as the entire water beast was consumed by the freezing cold of the strike Hitima had inflicted upon it. “If you ask me, it seems you will cease to exist… in no time.” Hitima stated sarcastically, mocking Rachael’s earlier statement.

Rachael stood in place in shock for a moment as she realized what had just transpired. “Uh-oh. Now I’m unarmed…” she said to herself.

“And extremely outmatched I might add…”

Wait a second. I’m in a corridor full of weapons. Might as well use what B’bub gave me. She looked around for a second, found what she was looking for and grabbed a spear off the wall. “Ha!”
