The bed calls to me
Current Mood:Sleepy Current Music: Cradle of Filth - Funeral in Carpathia
Well, not much has happened the last couple days really. yesterday at about this time, maybe a bit later, okay, so probably about two, I started work on my group presentation, and finished it around 3:15, so I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep. Yay, not fun.
I'd probably have finally gotten around on this site today, but video games got in the way, remember, I'm somewhat of an addict :P I've been playing Star Wars Rogue Squadron II on the GameCube.... good game. PhoenixClawth has kindly donated another icon. She has gotten a lot better at making them I'd say. So yeah, I made that small change *nod*.
Back on the topic of class, We did our presentation today, it went pretty well. I had K ticked at me all morning though :P My specialty perhaps? In the end our group was the only one that went, none of the other groups were ready, oddly enough. We have to as a group give another presentation on Thursday. I do believe on Tuesday we have to give (on our own now) a persuasive speech. That should be pretty easy too. Then there is Thursday again, the third and last day being mentioned(because I only have three classes left, yes), and Thursday is the final exam. Then the world of class is over... at least for now. I've not decided if I want to further pursue a Bachelors degree in CS or not. It's expensive... and I'm not sure how worth it that would be. Oh, decisions decisions, financial ones at that.
Well, good night to all, and all that jazz. Sleep well, or good morning, or good day, or good evening, whatever in hell it is when you read it :P
Thought of the day: It's obviously no coincidence that Vault and Mountain Dew both contain 78 grams of sugar(per 20oz bottle). Is coke a copy cat? I think so, I really do. |

Life's Catching Up
Current Mood:calm Current Music: In Flames - Reflect the End
Wow, it seems life is really catching up with me now. Stuff is actually happening, which is the majority of the reason for my prolonged absence from here. I've actually gotten some stuff done. (Amazing isn't it? Where's the applause?) Also, I might add, I finally fixed the source of the introduction, as well as small fixes on the alpha-transparent border images... Check the source of the i-frame with my introduction in it if you don't believe me. (Okay, so the changes are subtle, but they make it feel clean in my opinion... plus it smooths things out a little)
Of all the worlds damnedest things ever to happen, I think I've actually, finally gotten my computer set up the way I want, more or less. Seems I was constantly changing things there for a couple years, and I'm finally getting some results, interesting yes? (As per screenshots, something I have many of, here's a recent one.) Though, the world of software around me continues moving. It should be interesting to lay and wait, for KDE4 shall stun the world of computer operating systems as they are known.(or so says the developers)
As per else, I'm nearly finished with my classes, which will land me an associates degree in computer programming. I'm also looking around, in fact, I should be typing up/mailing my resume right now, but I'm not. My lazyness has gotten the best of me in that respect I suppose.
My spend-thriftyness has gotten the best of me again as well. I have around 15 new cds, a few new games, and a handful more books. Oh well, done and paid for :) I still can't wait for the PlayStation3 to come out, but I have to. Ah, so difficult this waiting is... NO! I'm not impatient ... okay, so maybe just a little.
Hmm, had I ever mentioned my new desk around here? Maybe not I guess. Oh, while I was at it I fixed my chair not so long ago... it was missing an arm, yay, fixed, more comfortable, and more yay. I think I'll have to take a picture or two of that and show I guess.
I guess I'll have to get around, even though about ten people or so off my list haven't been here since last year.... and a few others not since January. I guess it's high time I get active around here again.
As another quick point in this long winded random-ordered little fiasco, I've not really gotten much done in the way of programming or web design, I guess I've just been lazy about it. Maybe part of it was the long hours at work I'd been working there for quite a few months. They're back down to normal now though, maybe that will help some, I don't know, but I hope so.
Okay, I took those pictures I mentioned I would take earlier, of the computer/desk. One of them is a few weeks old, but good quality, and can be seen here. The other is a night picture, so the quality is a bit lacking, but it's significantly more recent - it is here. I guess that's all I really have for now, good night and all that good stuff. |

Of special interet to students
|
|
|
|
Alrighty, I found this interesting and decided I'd post it, how's that for ya? Ok, here goes:
Of Special Interest to students is this fact: Sleep deprivation can have a devastating effect on cognitive and motor functioning (Pilcher & Walters, 1997). In plainer language, William Dement says that a big sleep debt "makes you stupid" (Dement & Vaughan, 1999, p. 231). Evidence of this is found in a study that deprived one group of volunteers of sleep and gave another group enough alcohol to make them legally drunk (their blood alcohol content reached .1 percent). After 24 hours of sleep loss---like staying up all night studying for a test---the sleepy volunteers were performing just like the intoxicated group on tests of thinking and coordination (Fletcher et al., 2003). |

I know, I know. I haven't been posting lately. I've been so busy. I did find something so important as to run back here and make a quick post though. Now you must understand that I'm not usually one for hair color biased jokes, but I just heard THE BEST BLONDE JOKE EVER. You have to go check it out, I laughed my pants off when I heard this one! It was great! |

Contemplation
Current Mood:calm Current Music: Iron Maiden - Flash of the Blade
Well now, I've been gone a while haven't I? In all honesty, I've been contemplating whether or not I even want to come back... What with so many others taking indefinite leaves of absence, why shouldn't I jump the bandwagon :P I guess it's just not the same as it was used to. I've felt this way for quite some time really, but now I'm actually saying something (clearly).
I've also been rather busy, though I'm not sure if it really matters much. Picked up another programming language in my absence - VB.NET, and I've been working on polishing what I know of C++. I ordered some very nice computer parts as well, but one of the components bad, most likely the motherboard, which I'll be needing to send back before I lose the ability to do so. I've also been trying a new linux distribution, well, new to me. Kubuntu Linux is quite nice, pretty easy to use, and brings a few things to the field that debian doesn't quite do. On other topics, school has been going well(I'm currently in a c++ class now, as well as a boring class in marketing), and work is mundane as ever.
On more recent notes, I've started working on my website again - the topic this time around? I've pieced together a database, so far it's only holding the quotes from the quotes page, but later I'll have it incorporate other things. I've got that page up now, note that it is in php, so I've finally got off my butt and started using it, even if it's only a start. It pulls the quotes out of a database, and then displays them. It's nothing flashy now, but will be more feature-rich as I learn more. You can see that here.
On still another note, I've finally got in touch with my old friend Ricky, after months without communication, it turns out he joined up with the army, made his way through basic training, got married to Joy, and is now stationed in a garrision in Germany for processing. I swear if they send him to Iraq I'll can both his ass and theirs...that would piss me off so much. No point in sending people off to die without a purpose.
I also wanted to say I hope everybody had a good Turkey Day. I know I did, what with the Turkey and all, and yum, and full, and yeah. Anyway, that's all for my post, maybe I'll follow up on more of this later. Maybe |

Blah I say Blah!
Current Mood:calm Current Music: Chumbawamba - Salt Fare North Sea (Acoustic)
Well lets see here, what has the lowly Dustin been doing. Well, I've beaten Metroid Prime 2, piece of cake right? I've also finished up my C#.net class, almost. I need to finish the final.... I'll get docked 10% (so if I do perfect, and seeing as I'm awesome I likely will, I can still get an A) for not turning it in on time, but I overcomplicated things so it's taking a little longer for me to finish it, and I wasn't willing to lower the quality of my work to finish it and turn in a crappy product. As per else I got five new cds. Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time, Judas Priest - British Steel, Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance, and Symphony X - V The New Mythology Suite. I've got little else to explain at the moment, but the rest of what I've done is computer related anyway, so I doubt anyone would understand nor want to comment. Talk later....oh, and I plan to check guestbook entries tomorrow night if there is time.
Edit: I typed the majority of this Thursday, and didn't have the chance to post it until now. As per other things, they don't exist. I might get to go in and work some Sundays now, supposedly. Yesterday I went to Charlottesville and ended up getting a couple of games - Medal of Honor - European Assault and Neverwinter Nights (Platinum)

Metroid Prime 2
Current Mood:Sleepy Current Music: Kreator - As we watch the west
Work this weekend sucked beyond the known capabilities of sucking - of this much I am certain. I'm an order filler right? Right. On Friday around 6 or so of my trips in some way shape or form fell(not really bad falls though). 2 of those trips fell at the wrap machine area, which is bad(THESE were rather bad falls). I was called up over to pick them up.... after restacking both of them they still weren't happy....so they made me do it again, and I broke two cases(I was lucky more didn't break really) in the process, and was written up for each. Needless to say it sucked, and to top it all off, I finished at 85%, I've not seen myself that low in about 2 months.
Outside of work I'm doing the usual. I did the usual as in crashing on the couch after I got home at 7ish. I woke up around 10 or 11 in the morning. For today I didn't do much. just laze mostly. That is until tonight.
I had decided I'd best give Metroid Prime 2 one more shot before I give up on it and hand it back to my brother,a nd one helluva shot I gave. Here's the setup for those that haven't played it or haven't gotten this far. I'm in hard mode, and I'm near the end boss(es). Firstly you must fight the three-prong boss known as Emperor Ing. He mutates each time you defeat him, the first two forms are easy, and the third one is a bitch. (After beat/if you beat) him, a 7 minute time limit appears and you have to escape the dimension known as Dark Aether before it collapses. On the way out you run into the real end boss - Dark Samus v3.
I had made it past the first two parts of the emperor ing rather easily, but the third part as always was giving me trouble. In fact, I haven't beaten the Emperor Ing on Hard Mode yet. Why? Because it's hard, that's why. We were neck and neck the whole way through. Nearing the end, I was down to about 6 health (out of about 1200). I was positive I was going to die, but I managed to hit him twice more with charged light beam, a MAJOR stroke of luck. I came, I saw. I kicked his ass.(after the 10th try? yep)
So off I was, with my health refilled. At this point I hadn't tried to save on the way out, so I tried this time. Nope, save point was offline, damn oh well, right? Yeah. So I made my way as fast as I could to Dark Samus. She's a toughie, but I was doing pretty good. I was delivering all the damage I thought I'd need; although I wasn't sure I was doing it quicking enough. Come a few minutes later the timer was running low, as were my health, and hers. We both had about one good hit left in us, though the timer was down to five seconds. One more chance to nail her. Come crunch time, I just couldn't land a solid hit... neither did she though. The dimension collapsed. Game Over. I lose...... So close.
Andrew: i dont know, but its almost being like in a xwing vs empire thing, your very out numbered

Frozen Bubble
Current Mood:calm Current Music: Nine Inch Nails - No you don't
I've not got much to say really. I'm nearly finished with Metroid Prime 2... having a little trouble on the end bosses. (when they call hard mode hard mode I guess they aren't kidding). I've also started playing Frozen Bubble again. It's terribly addictive, look it up on google - there are java and flash ports of it. Go. Play. Now.
As per else, I've made a few changes here at myOtaku, some of them may even effect other people. I plan on deleting my photobucket account in favor of the use of my webspace. In accordance I've also rewired this page too. All images on this page are now linking from there instead of photobucket, and the buttons are sure to be next. I've also reworked my intro a little bit, and will do so more later. That's all for this post though.... Oh well, good night.

Current Mood:calm Current Music: Nine Inch Nails - The Way Out Is Through
I've still got nothing going on really. I've mostly been playing video games(more specifically Metroid Prime 2), sleeping, eating, drinking, wasting the local air supply, and things of this nature. I guess I had best get to work on my website though, before I forget to. I've got a couple ideas in mind for the new layout, still only mental imaging though. It'll likely be a lot more simple though, this much I know. It seems I'm doing better at work lately - did a 109% and 106% this week. Nothing special, but better than what I used to do. As per life itself I've been miserable and I don't know why. I'm sorry I'm never around, but hey, that's life.

Silence
Current Mood: Calm Current Music: Silence
Not much worth saying has been going on lately. After I got off work on Saturday I crashed, and when I say crashed, I mean crashed. I didn't wake up til about 17 or so hours later, and I've spent quite a lot of time since then sleeping as well. Besides sleeping the only other major thing I've been doing is playing video games, well, more specifically Metroid Prime 2. I beat it on Thursday, and am now working through on hard mode. So far I'm around 3/5 of the way through, so I'm making excellent progress. As per things, read yesterdays post, or you may mysteriously catch on fire.
