another weekend will soon be upon me

Another Weekend Will Soon Be Upon Me

Current Mood: Not sleepy as I'd like to be
Current Music: VNV Nation - Joy

Little has really been going on lately. For evidence of this read my last post... At first I figured I'd just bump it, but no I'm not. I'm going to say a few things before I go to bed which will not be long from now.

As per the big things,as this is more or less a summary of things. I do plan to build that computer. Specs can be seen two posts back. I'll be doing it the paycheck after next most likely. I just beat Metroid Prime 2 yesterday with 78% completion and I'm now about 15% of the way through on hard mode. Yay me. I have a c#.net test coming up on Tuesday - should be a piece of cake, like the cheesecake I had earlier. I'll also be shipping Several Linux distributions to my friend Andrew as soon as I get his address, because he also want to try it... I think this is 5 people I've convinced now. I have also posted two quizzes at the bottom. Take them or burn!! If you get Windows ME... I'll laugh, then cry. I think that will be all for this post. You all have a good night now.

Kiwi Hawaiian Punch? How odd...

Kiwi Hawaiian Punch? How odd...

Current Mood: Uncertain
Current Music: Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

Not a whole lot has been going on lately. Just work, sleep, and such. I've been reading webcomics a lot lately. I just caught up on Chugworth Academy today, and I'm still working on catching up with 8-bit theater and Penny Arcade. As for today I've been working with my computer a bit as always, and I watched a few episodes of Naruto.

As I mentioned in my last post, www.xnowherex.net, my domain, now has a copy of my old site. I've started both thinking and working on it already, and I'll probably have made some significant changes by the end of the week.

It looks like I may not be able to get those parts as soon as I thought, but I'll be able to soon enough. I'll make sure of that anyway. After I pay off all my bills and such this month I'll probably have around 700 left. I figure it will take a full month to push myself into a safe range to order them, 6 weeks tops. As for now I'll prepare my computer for it. Oh, and if you haven't seen already, look in my last post to see what I'm putting in it. None of it's top-of-the-line, but it's still damned nice stuff. I also think I forgot to mention that the hard drive I'll be using in it I got a while ago... it's a 250GB Seagate SATA harddrive. That's all for now, have a nice day.

Computer parts

Computer Parts

Current Mood: Somnolent
Current Music: The Offspring - We Are One

Ah, so I guess I get to finish yesterdays post today right? Firstly one other thing I wanted to say is that my highly outdated site has been moved to its new home - http://www.xnowherex.net. It's outdated but it's still itself.

The other thing I wanted to take care of was the cds I got a bit ago. 8 of the 9 cds have gotten here already, so I suppose it's high time I spent my thoughts on them.

The Offspring - Ignition - Very strong album for the band. I find it to be quite entertaining, a must have. Standout tracks are "We Are One", "Dirty Magic", and the though short, excellent "Forever and a Day"

Pennywise - From the Ashes - Their 2003 album breaks away from the trend of their previous few albums, and lets off a someone different sound for once while keeping their opinionated feel. Much of the album tends to blend together a tad too much though. Standout tracks are the opening track "Now I Know", and "Look who you are".

Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile - 2 Disks of his best work, in a nutshell. A very nice, while gritty, industrial feel throughout. It's more of an aquired taste, but with tracks like "The day the world went away" and "We're in this together" it can easily become addictive.

Iron Maiden - Powerslave A fantastic album. This is definitely proof that Heavy Metal was at its best in the 80's. Featuring tracks like "Flash of the Blade" and "The Duelists" it goes down as one of my favorite metal albums of all time.

Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Still more proof of great metal coming out of the 80's. It runs along the same lines as Powerslave and is a treasure of an album in itself. Another favorite.

VNV Nation - Praise the Fallen - Another Industrialish taste I picked up via internet radio here. I can't describe this album with words though really. Go pick it up :P

And I do believe that's enough album reviewing for now, if not too much. Onward with the post he says!

Today was a day spent doing two things mainly. For a while I was playing with graphics. I still need to complete this pages rennovations before I can start my true project, Nowhere. Other than that I spent the day browsing for computer parts.

I've finally figured out all of the parts I'm going to want to put into my computer that I plan to build. Net cost it will likely run me around 1050-1100 dollars, but that's really not a bad price. Some of these parts I already have, others are marked with a price tag.

  • Monitor - typical 17" CRT
  • Keyboard - Happy Hacker Keyboard
  • Mouse - Run of the mill ps/2 mouse.
  • Speakers - Altec ADA745
  • Case - Thermaltake Xaser - Armor Blue case ($154)
  • Motherboard - ASUS A8N-SLI ATX AMD Motherboard ($135)- complete with built in gigabit Network Interface. -- also note that its frontside bus is 2GHz due to HT :P
  • Processor - AMD Athlon 64 "San Diego", rated at 2.4GHz, has 1MB L2 Cache. ($368)
  • Graphics -Albatron Geforce 6600 PC6600Q ($112)
  • Power - OCZ ModStream 520 Watt Power Supply (OCZ52012U) ($130)
  • memory - OCZ Enhanced Latency 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin PC 3200 Dual Channel ($138)

It's quite a lot of bang for the buck, but it'll be a few weeks until I can get it. Oh well, I suppose I should probably get to bed. I'll talk to you later... and heck, maybe you even read all the way up to this part, if so congratulations and good night. (finished - 1:44am)

Playing Around

Playing Around

Current Mood: Semi-Inspired
Current Music: The Offspring - We Are One

Today in C# was interesting. I adapted faster than I thought, leaving the entire class in the dust in the process :P Yes, eat my dust! I finished at least a full half hour - forty-five minutes before the next person, if I was correctly informed anyway, ehehe. It was something fairly simple, but still.... Even if it was only to make a little calculator work-alike. Oh well, enough of that for now.

I don't know why, but I felt semi-inspired today. I'm now wanting to do a bunch of things. I altered my computers theme a bit for one(never-ending it seems ne?), and I also even did what you're staring at right now. I played with my font and color, and pulled off the image(and the rules above and below it). I'm mainly doing it to simplify things a little. Looking at it from any web-design standpoint it was actually pretty bad off. I don't think I can even count how many colors are/were involved in it, and at max you should really be using 3 or 4... Same goes for fonts. So what do you think of the changes? Good? Bad? I"m open to criticism. Oh, and click here to see what this looks like in a browser worth at least two cents. If it's not rendering similarly, you should probably take this as a direct insult to your browser!

Outside of this, I was going to talk about something, but now I can't remember due to lack of sleep giving me a headache seeing as it's nearly 3 in the morning. I'll be going to bed now. Good night.

short post

Short Post

Current Mood: Satisfied, Exhausted
Current Music: Iron Maiden - Infinite Dreams

I've got a handful of things that I want to say, but then again there's always the fact that I'm short on time because I need to get up early in the morning, so this post will be (very short), by my standards anyway.

I finished my Oracle Developer class (no word yet on my score in the class). They've got me down for C# and nthing else next term. Oh well, that suits.

The first thing I feel like saying at the moment is that I in fact have a new theme going on. Widgets look similar to a customized version of the Mac Aqua theme. The background is from to heart. I've not seen it, but it makes for a nice wallpaper. It's very blue. Click here to see it!(or else!)

Next topic is webness. I've got kickass webhosting now, which involves me paying for it. $3.95/month, and I get a free domain too. Go to ClickOnHosting To see more on the details on how it kicks ass, because it does. My domain is http://www.xnowherex.net - nothing is there yet, but I have plans for it, especially since I'm paying money.

I'm going to bed now. I have to go to sleep so I can wake up and go to the vile place they call work, on labor day weekend = really really high volume = me += death. I'll post this in the morning before I head off.

Going places

Going Places

Current Mood: Satisfied
Current Music: DJ Doboy - Trancequility Volume 34
http://64.236.34.4:5190/stream/1003 (a nice trance shoutcast)

I've been having a good old time lately. Even been doing thigns and going places. I guess I should take this from the top eh?

I'm pretty happy with my computer now lately, and having a good old time with it. Unfortunately for it I'm also planning on its replacement, but that won't be for a while yet. Today(well, yesterday) I spent a large amount of time renaming and reorganizing files on my computer. Thanks to the help of an excellent batch/mass renamer(krename) I've sorted and renamed over 2000 files! I still have a long way to go as far as I'm concerned though. I also need to finish backing things onto dvds, which is taking longer than I thought, due to my lack of will to do it at the moment. In other computer news I've switched to the 2.6.11 kernel, and I've fixed the mouse "warp" problem I was having with the "/dev/psaux" device(by switching to "/dev/input/mice").

Speaking of other things I've been accomplishing around the place. I've cleaned up my room and it's looking pretty nice for once. I also got a new monitor to replace the junk one I had been using as a temporary. It's decent for a compaq monitor(that is in fact what it is). Color scheme is silver and black, and the size is 17"(Cathode Ray Tube). It matches the rest of my stuff pretty well, and seems to blend in much better than any other monitor I've had did. It is also capable of great feats. When I first booted up with it, it used a resolution of 1680 x 1050. Huge! I've since set it back to 1280 x 1024(my preferred), but it really surprised me. The color on the monitor is also quite good. I must say this monitor was a good steal for a measly $50! So what have I been using this monitor for? Watching anime of course! Lately I've been rewatching Naruto, but today I got to see something special and new. Full Metal Panic Season 2 episode 1! I was hoping they'd opt for a second season, and they did. Yay!

In other news, I've done a fair amount of ordering(though more is planned). The order of the day? Music, lots of it(9 cds):

  • Megadeth - Cryptic Writings
  • Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
  • The Offspring - Ignition
  • Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth
  • VNV Nation - Praise the Fallen
  • Iron Maiden - Power Slave
  • Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
  • Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegatables
  • Pennywise - From the Ashes
This seems to be all for now, though I have plans to get a few(potentially many) things later too, but that can wait for now.

In other news my current term is drawing to a close, I'm nearly finished with my Oracle Developer class. Just as soon as I finish the final project I'm done... so if I finish it tomorrow I don't have to show up Thursday! w007! Oh, while I'm on the topic of databases... I've finally set myself up with MySQL and PostgreSQL databases on my computer! Let the experimenting begin!

Still more news, yep, this post isn't done just yet. I missed work on Saturday(I'm going to get written up for it, but that's okay, I've got plenty of blank spots on the matrix to fill :P), to take a little trip. We went up to Pennsylvania, and for once, I'd say I probably did most of the driving(My dad had me go through everywhere except Winchester... my license may yet be in sight). It was just a calm little visit to my grandparents place, and we came back on Sunday night. Not much else went on there.

Goodness...and Hot Fries

Goodness... and Hot Fries

Current Mood: I feel alive
Current Music:~The hammer of the keys of this keyboard~

I've been doing pretty well lately all in all I suppose. Mostly just school, and work as usual. I still dislike my job as much as ever, but I think I'm getting a ways more used to it, maybe.

I haven't been all that busy lately. I've just been tweaking my computer/theme and stuff. Here's a link to the current state of my computer's themeness. Clicky!.

The satellite internet connection seems to be going well, and it's one of the main leading causes in my recent spree of staying up way, way late. Firstly on Saturday night I slept around 16 hours, not waking up on Sunday til 4 pm. On the next night I had a grand blast of the time like I haven't been able to do for a year. I stayed up all through the night and didn't go to bed til daybreak. Last night I went to bed around 3 because I was a busy little bee, working on various aspects of my computers theme and organization.

I also went ahead on the longest (and best) of those nights and bought myself some anime. 22 DVDs worth of jap w/ eng-subs anime goodness to be exact. 6 complete series. So here we are: Ayashi no Ceres, Iria, Elfen Lied, Scrapped Princess, Cowboy Bebop, and Flame of Recca. Round trip cost was $154 - or roughly $7/DVD.In your face! Hah!

Current Music:The Offspring - Dammit, I Changed Again

It's nothing as big as last time, but it's still a significatn impact on my life. I've actually accomplished a few things worth talking about for once.

My school situation is still pretty hectic. I've got one class this term. I'm riding in With Gary, and riding home with somebody else. I honestly can't remember his name, not that it matters.

We finally got through with the direcway guy. My parents covered the $700 installation/transponder/modem cost(no idea why, they were going to have me loan it to them), and I covered the cost of other things(router, cat6 cables). The guy showed up yesterday and did the installation and the like, took a few hours altogether because I was having trouble finding the drivers for my parents computers ethernet controller ^^; We then had to get a drill bit and drill some holes before we could run the cable up to my room, and afterwards I had mine set up within a half hour.

Its speeds are pretty nice. I'm getting anywhere from about 45 to 80kbs(hitting more like 125 on large downloads during off hours though) for download speeds, and roughly 5kbs upload speeds. I'm happy.

I also plan to stick around myO now, now that I don't have such a hassle with the load times. So, I'll be visiting, count on it, or else. Kyahahahaha!

back to busy

back to busy

Current Mood: tired
Current Music: Sum 41 - Over My Head (Better Off Dead)

Well, my vacation went great. Sunday was indeed Busch Gardens. It was rainy which made the day half miserable, but at least the lines were really short. The longest wait we had was for DarKastle, and yes, I road all the coasters, as that is my nature. The rest of the days were spent in the Nags Head/Kill Devil Hill area of the Outer Banks, North Carolina. It was an oceanfront hotel, and things went along the way a vacation could, although I'm now sunburnt in several areas, and peeling too, but that's okay.(Please don't mind the runons and grammatical errors. I'm kind of in a hurry here.)

In other news I'm floundering in terms of transportation to and from school. I'm trying to work this out and such now but it's proving difficult. On the plus side this has finally gotten my parents attention, so today my parents took me out and wham, I got a new car. Yes, that fast. It's a 2005 Kia Spectra, and I put $2000 down on it. It was a pretty good buy, nothing too flashy, but it was a very economical choice, and it's still fairly nice.

I'm also never around the internet lately doing things it seems. Efforts to address this are also in progress. I finally got a hold of someone who looks promising for a satellite internet provider. It looks like an downstream of 40kbs and upstream of 5kbs. It's nothing flashy but it totally beats dialup, even with its 3 second latency. Well, I must go now as I have work tomorrow. Tah tah.

Weekendness

Weekendness

Ah, yes, finishing the projects was certainly good, but it looks like I'm going to be running into trouble with my ride in sometime this turn. It seems Gary is going to be getting a job or something rather, and I"d have no way home. Oh well, extra incentive to make my parents give me driving time.

As for what I've been doing lately, I took a final on Thursday for PL/SQL. I think I did alright, and I"ll know later. I finished Systems Analysis with an A, suprisingly enough.

After school I installed Linux Kernel 2.6 to resolve some hardware problems I was having on the 2.4 kernel. I now have the ability to burn DVDs! muahahahhaa(previously I was only able to make coasters, it was t3h sadness) (8mbs write speeds are nice)

I also went forth and picked up the KDE development libraries, so now I have the ability to compile KDE applications. I wanted that stuff so I could start working on writing some stuff of my own :P

As per Friday and Saturday, it as just normal work stuff. I pulled a 98% on both days I believe. Much better than I used to, but still not good enough, oh well, good enough for me.

I'll probably be gone until around Wednesday. It seems I'll be going on a little vacation of sorts. First stop, Bush Gardens; second stop, Nags Head beach. <>
