To elaborate further upon yesterday..

Comment Commentary

Shin- Go check out the pics ov me scroing with chix on my site!!1 It has spyware and popup adz!

Lewna- Thank you, gracias, arigato gozaimasu, and, uh, the rest. o_O

animangademon- Nah, you have to be forty to be president. Too bad, huh?

James- Oh, I am. Though I've been a little scared of taking the iPod out of its plastic. It's too cool-looking to touch.

Azure- A lot of people group them together, but I don't mind.

Syk- Aw, you do care.

Solo- The shirt is so cool. ;_;

Godel- You have to roll to see if it's effective first. ~_^

Mal- Bah, DDR is already sitting right behind me from a while ago. Besides, arcades for life.

--

Hm, school-wise, there's not too much to say about yesterday. We won in basketball again, I drew a very pleasant drawing in art (which shall become a substitute comic for when I'm in Pittsburgh).. After school I dragged one of my more reliable male friends to the mall to assist me in shopping for everyone else. He despises Christmas, for several reasons, so he didn't have too great a time. Much of the shopping was done in stores such as American Eagle, Old Navy and the Sanrio Store. He made a nice analogy to Metroid Prime 2 with this: The mall is the dark world, and stores such as Radio Shack and Suncoast are the light bubbles of sanctuary.

In the end, I was satisfied with what I got everyone, and everybody seemed to be equally pleased. Plushies + Nice journals + I Love the 80's shirt = satisfaction.

In return, I got a kickass Homer beer mug, a Stewie shirt ("Why you sick, sick little moo cow"), and a big box of delicious-sounding tea bags.

But the best part was actually giving people things. Last year I had no idea people were buying things for each other, and I felt guilty when I got stuff. Now I have a clear conscience, and it is good.

I've never been very good at wrapping presents. Perhaps I don't have the delicate touch required, or maybe I'm bad with tape, but I'm never very satisfied with my handiwork. I took my time with these, making purdy little to/from tags. My mom decided to stick little nutcracker stickers on them for some reason, so I made the best of it by giving them odd names.

As for gifts from my family.. Well, Half-Life 2 and a 20 gig iPod have already been established, but I also got volumes two and three of Bleach and the Half-Life 2 artbook. I don't like Bleach much (I bought the first volume on a whim a while back), so I'll probably just read those and exchange them for other stuff, and I'm too scared of spoiling the game by looking at the Half-Life 2 artbook. I skimmed through and saw funny, unprofessional HL1 concept art, which was cool.

And the cover rocks. Hard.

--

We ate at Outback tonight, because my brother's friend's mom coincidentally gave us gift cards for that place. For those of you who aren't familiar with the chain, Outback is a down-under steak house, which, when I look at it now, is incredibly over-the-top. They have wooden carvings of various Australian animals everywhere (I stared at a freaking platypus for two hours as we were waiting to be seated), and they have "G'Day" and "Mate" written all over everything on the menu.. It's hilariously stereotypical.

James and Baron, I'm looking at you.

The food itself was delish. But there's not much to say there.

T-minus four days until I go to Pennsylvania, and die in the below-zero temperatures. I should probably set up a will, huh?

EDIT: It- It has nothing to do with Chise, from the looks of it! SHAME.

Eeeeee.

Comment Commentary

Hyakkimaru- There's always eBay, my friend. There's always eBay..

Shin- Nah, this is the same one. They just haven't shown pictures or anything until now.

Godel- *blinks* I lose.

Azure- Oh right, Hideo Kojima, the guy that wore a white collared shirt with pink dots on it at E3 would tell me that I'm lame?

--

Today essentially boiled down to this: HOLY FUCKING SHIT IPOD AND HALF-LIFE 2.

Why be poetic when you can be blatant and pathetic?

Good Charlotte, I salute you.

Comment Commentary

Shin- See? SEE!?

Mimmi- You've obviously never seen End of Evangelion. ;)

Comic is almost done, I promise. I might have it up tonight.

Karmi- I've been lucky with homework the past two years- it's been really light.

But I'm not soft. I'll adapt. :P

Godel- Just make a little gang sign to go along with that statement and I'll agree.

--

Uneventfulness. Oh joy.

We finished Schindler's List today. The movie's ending was nice. It showed humanity in Schindler without making him seem corny, kept the very, very sad story from dying due to a half-baked "happy" ending, and still left you feeling a little fuzzy inside.

And then it says that Schindler's marriage didn't work out and all of his business attempts crashed to the ground. I laughed.

The thing where they show the real survivors of the incident was okay, but it was way drawn out. That's probably my biggest complaint about the movie: "Insert tape three for credits!"

Art's been a little dull. The teacher pretty much leaves me off to do whatever the hell I want, and I haven't been too inspired to do anything lately. Well, that's not exactly true. I was working on that project I mentioned last time, but nothing was coming out too well. I hadn't warmed up at all, and I didn't really know where I was going with anything.

Basketball's been going well. The interesting thing about my new PE class is this: It's pretty full of ghetto people, which is good when you have to play basketball (Stereotype alert!!1), and they're not very.. Boastful about it. Every other time I've played any game in Phys Ed with this kind of person they had a lot of talk to accompany the walk, but it's not so bad here. And for that I am pleased.

I got a birthday check in the mail today. Twenty bucks. This is the first pebble in the landslide that is on its way, thanks to my seven aunts, four uncles, and one grandparent.

Thanks, Catholicism, for wanting to abolish contraceptives!

My current stash of money, however, is about to go poof. I'm going Christmas shopping either tomorrow or Thursday, and I'm not quite sure what I'm getting everybody. I have a lot of ideas, but unfortunately a lot of things may not exist, which sucks.

And there are a few people who I refuse to buy anything for, no matter how much they consider me their friend. That's sort of the awkward thing about buying gifts for friends: Unless you get something for every friggin person you know, someone's going to complain.

Oh well. I'm aiming for three core homeboys / homegirls. One's already done with, and I'm just waiting for it to ship.

Dr. Hobo shirt. That's how cool I am.

--

My dad showed me an article he found in the newspaper last night.. On the first page of the "Money and Careers" section I found a big almost-full-page article on anime and manga, entitled "Drawing New Fans."

After scoffing at the silly title, screaming when I saw them use a Fullmetal Panic picture to accompany it, and squealing with glee when I saw Menchi plushies in the other image, I actually read the article.

It was the typical "Upcoming entertainment fad that parents who are too lazy to communicate with their kids should know about" article, but it had a sense of dignity to it. They made several good references (Cowboy Bebop, Excel Saga, Newtype), and didn't make it seem lame at all. It seemed rather ADV-focused, but they briefly mentioned Bandai and Sony. I may type it up to see what other people's reactions are.

--

I finally made some progress in Snake Eater last night. I'm in a part of the game where you have Eva following you around, and because of an injury she walks really slow and constantly has her stamina dropping. She needed to eat every two seconds, it seemed.. Quite possibly the most annoying thing I've ever had to deal with, and that's including Jet Force Gemini.

Tee-hee.

I'm on the final boss battle right now. Appropriately, it's against The Boss instead of a Metal Gear or a boring Solidus-ish thing.

For those of you who have been following the game, it takes place in the bright, white, flowery field they've shown in one of the trailers. It's essentially a sneaking boss battle, which I've been wishing for ever since Twin Snakes (Vulcan Raven doesn't count), and it definitely suffices. There's a ten minute time limit, though, which is my biggest problem. I don't have a camoflage good enough to keep me that well-hidden, and I have missed a ton of camo throughout the game, and this is why I plan on starting over.

Gah, piano in forty-five minutes. I should practice.

Perpetual Stillness

Comment Commentary

Mimmi- I am pleased. Kick him again.

Azure- I will, but I'm waiting for the perfect oppurtunity.

Shin- I haven't seen it in the longest time.

Karmi- Why not Shin? He has, like, 8,000,000 email accounts he never looks at.

--

Today was rather uneventful. I woke up, ate some poor pancakes (they're only good when they have bananas in 'em), watched TV for a while, ate some Goldfish, and sat around some more. It was one of those days where you just sit around and don't really worry about anything, you know? It wasn't the best day ever, but it was nice to just relax.

I transfered all of my MP3s today. It was a lot easier than I had expected- Apparently I wasn't looking hard enough for a decent freeware burning program, and CDs hold more than I had thought. I calibrated my speakers so that they actually worked (Only the front two had been doing anything up until that point), tested the surround sound out with End of Evangelion, and took breaks to check on the burning progress.

It's cool to have speakers all around.

5.1 Speaker system: $150

Cable managers to keep all the friggin wires in order: $5

Listening to Shinji make odd little grunting noises in Asuka's hospital room from all angles: Priceless.

--

Unlike most weekends, I had homework this time. It wasn't much, really. Just some of the most boring math I've ever done, and as I sat there, I decided to work on my comic outside of class. I popped in my freshly burned CDs (50 to 85 songs per disc), and finished up the actual drawings for the panels. They look pretty rushed in places, but I hope to fix that in Photoshop.

Once I install it.

But yeah, the comic should be done by Friday. I also have decided to start a new artistic project.. Instead of random drawings and essentially disconnected comic strips, I'm going to try something different and more organized. I did the first part today, and it's looking promising.

And so, in the style of James, I leave you to ponder over this small bit of tantalizing (well, not so much in this case) information.

Sen-Sational

And for the record, I've had this title lined up since long before Shin pulled his little trick today.

Comment Commentary

Syk- I refuse to dignify that with a witty response.

Shin- Tell me about it.

Karmi- My conversations with my friends have all been coming back to the Holocaust after seeing this movie.

Mimmi- Whoa, I'm supposed to capitalize all of Ikea? I apologize.

James- The Wachowskis aren't really keen on public stuff, are they? I don't even know what they look like.

Syk- *sues you*

Mal- Garden State was the most I've ever been disappointed with a movie. The trailers were so hilarious, but unfortunately those were the only good parts.

--

God dammit, my brother and his pervo friend were looking at porn on this computer again. It seems they actually went on some sites, instead of regular Google Image Searches. I swear, if they ever get a virus or something..

On this computer, of course. Not from each other.

--

I just typed this entire post up, only to be reminded that I deleted all of my temporary internet files, including cookies, to get rid of signs of my brother's.. Adventures. This, of course, kept the post from going through, and I lost all progress I had made. Because of this, you're getting an "abridged" version of the actual post, which shall never see the light of day again.

I went to a birthday party today. There was a big inflatable bouncy-jumper thing that was cool to bounce in, a wooden fort from 1996 that was fun to sit in, and a trampoline that was fun to.. Well, jump, on.

It's rare that I spend more time outside than inside at a friend's house. I probably would have spent more time inside, had there not been My Boo, Drop It Like It's Hot and a bunch of new, upbeat rock hits playing on Sirius. >:O

I came home and watched The Simpsons in the first time since forever. It was one of my favorite episodes- the one where Marge has to overcome her fear of flying- but that's not why I like it. Like so many episodes of The Simpsons, there was a mini-story in the beginning that eased us into the real thing. In this one, Homer gets kicked out of Moe's Tavern permenantly and is forced to find a new bar. The Cheers scene is definitely up there on my list of favorite Simpsons moments.

This one was actually one of the first episodes of The Simpsons I ever saw. The actual first one, though, the first taste of the series that propelled me into a downward spiral of fandome and religious viewing, was the one with Lance Murdock (I think that was his name), motorcycle stunt master extraordinaire. The only sitcoms I had really watched before that were Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond, which almost always went right over my head, but when I saw Homer fall down the cliffside screaming in pain for five straight minutes I giggled insanely for two straight days. I remember stumbling up the stairs afterwards, with a chocolate shake in my hand (It was in a martini glass), weak from laughter, and collapsing on my floor in an extreme state of gigglage.

I love how all of my tangents seem to evolve into rants. Nothing's planned anymore.

Closing statement: My subwoofer makes for a very nice footrest.

Why duznt ne1 reply 2 my gb signingz???
Comment Commentary

Shin- I remember being five and going ":O!!! IT SAYS THE "H" WORD!"

Alea- It was so cool.

Mimmi- I swear, I'll have it soon! I just need to figure out this stupid keyboard.

Syk- I don't have the OLD one set up yet, and I'll be burning Photoshop for myself either tonight or tomorrow.

That's right, you are of no use anymore. Off to the farm that nobody can ever visit with you.

Solo- Wait.. So is it one of their calm, piano/violin vocal ones?

Shinji- You know, he hasn't brought it in yet. The more I think about those guys in the fez hats the more I want to read it.

Karmi- I would call you Amish, but that would be wrong in so many ways.

Mal- Nah, it's okay.

Stacie- Yeah, unlike.. Heath and Elias?

--

Schindler's List has singlehandedly become my highlight of the day. The scene where they're clearing out the ghettos quite possibly made me the most emotional I've ever gotten over a movie.

It was the shock value, mostly. In most violent movies that I (and most of my classmates) have seen, the deaths are all generally short and predictable. When you see the Nazis randomly shooting weeping teenage men, with the blood coming out in realistic spurts and the skull fragments everywhere, it's quite different.

Deaths aren't usually this poetic, either.

I really want to get this one on DVD.. More than Star Wars, more than Kill Bill, and more than The Matrix.

That reminds me. I haven't ranted about the Matrix boxset, have I?

The packaging.. Could be better. It's nice to see a franchise that is so stylistic that they don't even need to put the title on the box to draw people in.

The material itself.. Eh. I don't own a single Matrix DVD, though I've rented them all many times, but they're not at all my top priority. The transfer quality is pretty sweet, though.

And though I'm a strong advocate of watching special features, this seems borderline-overkill. I still haven't listened to the Invader Zim Volume Two commentary track, and I've had that for a while. I need to catch up.

--

I began work on a new comic today. It's amazing how much time I can spend getting my quasi-stick figures just right.

--

We were going over something.. Stupid.. In math. I was paying attention, but I apparently looked asleep (I can't deny that- I had been fighting sleep off all day), and the teacher just blurted out my name in the middle of class for no reason. It was.. Odd.

--

Yesterday was quite possibly the most boring day of English I have had this year. The teacher was giving a speech about this new essay we have due in Februrary on anything World War II-related. I don't know why, but it was so mind-numbingly dull that I wanted to shoot myself. This sort of carried over to today, but we kind of got out of it. Someone asked some question about WWII, and she got on a rant about it, and then I asked a different question. This snowballed into a World War II forum (with some of the dumbest questions I've ever heard) which took up a good deal of the period.

But I got the point. "Plagiarism = bad. Cite you resources. Bend over for the gods of rigid essay writing."

--

We decided to go down to Ikea yesterday and get some desks for the new computer setup. I had never been in that store before, and what I had in store for me was quite the surprise. I had known about odd, imported furniture, but I had never seen too much of it in person. It was a pretty freaking hilarious experience, and it has inspired me to write.

So that's what I'm going to do my screenplay on: A bunch of people in a Swedish furniture store and their many misadventures.

It sounds stupid, but there were so many things that were just peculiar about the place, it just screams "GARDEN STATE RIPOFF."

Only good.

(Speaking of screenplays, my History teacher majored in screenwriting and she gave me a few of her college books today. They look useful.)

Choosing the furniture wasn't so bad.. It was actually getting it that was the problem. They have their big warehouse, and you're supposed to wait until they call your number. Because we had so much stuff, and all of that stuff happened to be on high shelves, and they only had one forklift man, it took a very long time.

I would have killed for an iPod. The only entertainment in there was watching people go in and out. I saw one guy with a Penny Arcade shirt and another with a Pixies jacket.

They were playing one Christmas CD over and over. The same twelve songs. The same twelve easy listening singers. My mom singing along the entire time. My brother poking me in time with the music. The crazy Korean people who didn't speak a word of English and were laughing about God knows what the entire time.

Virgin Records was taunting me through the window, beckoning me with its red neon lights and U2 poster. Barnes and Noble, though appealing, didn't attract me as much. I looked at the 2005 catalog. There were cool things. I want to decorate my room with Ikea things, if and when we ever freaking move out of this house.

But we had Taco Bell on the way back and I tried out this new burrito and it was good, so it all kinda evened out. Plus, we now have both computers completely hooked up, the only problem being keyboards. It's hell trying to figure out this wireless one. The mouse works fine, but not the keyboard. It's frustrating.

Closing Statement: "All of the vowels have little dots over them.. This confuses and angers me."

Do you think Weird Al ever got groupies?

Comment Commentary

Shin- It's just disgraceful, isn't it?

Stacie- I swear, that woman is going to kill herself if you transfer.

DDG- And even then, I lost all respect for it after that American one with Tony Hawk.

Mimmi- It's like The Bachelor mixed with Survivor mixed with The Apprentice mixed with Desperate Housewives.. But not really.

Mal- Quiet, youse.

--

Art was better today. A lot of the period was silent (at least at our table- the rest of the class is unbelieveably loud), and we were all given our own little assignments. Being the few dedicated artists in the class (if you could call me that), our teacher tends to give us more individualized assignments. One person was told to make a satyrized version of The Night Before Christmas, another is replicating eight pictures from a famous version of A Christmas Carol, I'm doing comics (!!), and.. Well, the fourth person. I don't know what she's doing. :P

He wants me to stick primarily with political comics, because he's always been paranoid about being blamed for a school lawsuit, and I guess I can go with that.. But I'm still going to finish off all of the ideas I've had floating around in my head for the past five months.

Tomorrow he's bringing in some Life in Hell (Matt Groening) comics for me to look at. I've never had the chance to really look at Mr. Groening's early work, and I am really looking forward to it.

Phys Ed.. We got our asses handed to us, fifty to two. Nobody was even trying, especially me, and it was just sad. At least nobody was blaming me, as they seem to so often do.

--

The prospect of a LAN party after school convinced me into going over to a friend's house, but that never happened. Instead we pulled the regular sit-around-watching-TV-and-laughing-at-it deal.

I suppose the highlight was when we pooled together all of our profane knowledge for the common goal of cussing out the rabbit on Arthur. It was so brutally rude we found ourselves laughing so hard we weren't even making any noise for about fifteen minutes.

Once his mom got home, she announced that they had to go visit some relatives on the other side of town. I went along, and it was okay. Some of his family was really nice, but others were just.. Cold, I guess. There are times when I don't really feel welcome around his mom, but maybe I'm just paranoid.

I came back and watched Lost. I really liked the cinematography in this episode- there was one shot in particular that caught my eye. It's a rather pivotal scene, so I won't spoil it, but I do have this to say: They're showing the first episode next Wednesday at eight. I command you to watch it, because it's goddamn freaking awesome and you must have brain damage if you dislike it.

Though the polar bear's a bit of a turnoff. There are the illogical parts that will probably push a few people away from the series.

I don't know if tonight's episode was the season finale or what, but it wasn't the best cliffhanger ever. As far as I can remember, each episode had its own little twist at the end, and this one was good, but it wasn't executed as well as others.

--

I plan on hooking up the computer tomorrow after school. I'm not quite sure where we're going to put it, but my dad made a bit of a promise there, and I need Photoshop anyway, so yeah. Expect a new comic sometime soon.

Ze horror..

Comment Commentary

Shin- I should be reading it right now.. But I'm not.

Mal- I know, I know.. But there's no time or mental capacity to read two books!

Stacie- No. You get hippo.

--

My mom should be home soon with the power strip that we need to hook everything up. The current strip in the back has absolutely no room left on it, and I had to unplug the desk light just to get all of the subwoofer working. To plug in the other computer, I plan on transferring the current power strip to that one, and using a big-arse one here.

Not that any of that really matters.

I spent an hour or two last night ripping songs off of my CDs. Sadly enough, the only CDs that I bother listening to anymore are De Stijl and the DDR MAX2 OST. That's not to say that I don't have little music at the moment- this particular DDR CD has 49 tracks.

I found the CD for this computer's burning software, but it says that it's for rewritable drives only.. Which the old computer is not. This may lead to some problems, but I'm not sure yet.

--

Today we have no school, so I basked in the infinite glory of sleeping in on a weekday. Admittedly, I didn't sleep in that late- just 10:30- but it was nice regardless.

I woke up first, then my brother, who decided to watch the third Invader Zim DVD. As great as the series is, I feel sort of burned out on Zimmage. In the middle of the episode where the girlscout gets her foot caught in the ground (It's great in the satire department), I just got bored and came in here.

I'm still gonna sit down for the Christmas episode, though, edited though it may be.

--

I have been meaning to mention that Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne has been nominated for "RPG of the Year" on SpikeTV's little gaming awards show. I don't mean to support that awards show, because last year's sucked so bad it wasn't even funny, but I was sure to cast my vote immediately.

It's stacked up against Fable and a bunch of other overhyped titles, though, so I don't think it has a fighting chance. It's too bad, really.
