Squee!!
Oh joy, oh joy, Christmas is almost here! Can you not hear the happy families singing carols and frolicking about in the snow? The magical romance between the young couples kissing as they skate on the local ice pond? The laughing of the happy children as they sit on Saint Nicholas' knee, asking for absurdly priced novelty items they'll get tired of within a week's time?
Bah, I'm not. Christmas just isn't here for me this year, as is the case with most people I know. Even though it's two days away, I feel little Christmas Spirit within me. I mean, I smiled from ear to ear when I saw the Chrismtas Trees in Target for the first time last month, and I feel nice.. Something just feels missing.
I suppose that things are just different this year. I have more things to manage, such as a pseudo-relationship, the sickness of a family member, stress of school projects that are due the week I get back, and so on.
Part one-- Relationship issues
Okay, so I did not know people were exchanging gifts this year at my school. I thought that was not allowed, thus I never even thought of doing such a thing. Well guess what. My pseudo-girlfriend comes up at lunch and gives me a gift. What do I do? Stutter. Feel bad. Thank her but I probably came off sounding as a jerk. Argh, now I need to figure out how to make it up to her.
Part two-- Family Member Sickness thingie
My grandmother isn't doing very well. She has been very sick, and has physically aged about twenty years in the past two months. Because of this my dad's been very depressed/angry as of late, and we're driving three hours to San Diego to see her on Christmas Day. It's gonna be so sad and morbid there (plus we'll be the only people there) so I probably won't enjoy it much. *sigh* I don't think my immediate family will ever have a Christmas with just the four of us..
Part three-- Projects
Argh. I have to finish off the last half of The Hunt for Red October in the next two weeks and write a book report about it. What's worse, I have three unreliable partners also reading Tom Clancy novels. Their grades are averaged in with mine, and none of them have even gotten half way through theirs. That'll suck.
Then I have an island creation thing to do. That's not much of a problem, but once again I have to pick up the slack coming from my teammates. Argh.
And so ends my rant.
Merry Christmas, everyone.

..
I don't know how to say this without sounding corny, but.. Wednesday was my birthday (O-ho, I stole that directly from Syk's MyOtaku a couple months bad. I remembered it).
I didn't get a ton of stuff, and because of the costs of most things I desire I don't feel let down by that. After all, I did get some pretty awesome things.
-Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Director's Cut-- Haha, this was most certainly worth it. Johnny got a lot less mindless in violence and went on to more psychology and symbolism.. With enough Wobbly Headed Bob to keep me laughing. In fact, I haven't drawn as much anime as of late-- More stuff like what Jhonen Vasequez does.
The ending was kind of sad, though..
-Squee's Great Big Book of Unspeakable Horrors-- The Squee! compilation from Jhonen Vasquez. A lot funnier than JtML in a lot of ways, but in the end I think the "Meanwhile" and other filler stuff in the back was what made it so great.
-Witch Hunter Robin Special Edition-- Yep, this was #1 on my wish list sort of thing.. And quite frankly, I think I had too high expectations for it. The character design bothered me a bit (Their faces are kind of strange) and things are starting off kind of slowly. I hear it picks up after a while, though, so I shall persist (Besides, I got some awesome animations cells, the box, a shot glass and a T-shirt inside, so it was pretty worth it regardless).
-Age of Mythology-- Ohh, I have had a lot of fun with this game already. In my opinion, it's leaps and bounds over Age of Empires.. The variety of God Powers and such is really intriguing. My brother has been paying me to let him watch me play. o.o' He says he would play, but it "looks too hard". That's probably why he never plays any games.
And.. I'm done now.

*sigh*
As time goes on I find more things to talk about in MyOtaku. Heh, I could go on forever about various things..
But first things first.
No PlayStation 2 for me this holiday season. Between the supermarket strike affecting California's economy plus that tripling of that car tax.. My dad, our only source of income, works in the car industry. So there hasn't exactly been a decent pay check in a while.
But my parents said it's still possible.. They may just be saying that, though.

Oh, and because of my scoliosis, I had to go and have a blood test done today. So I was forced to starve myself ever since last night's dinner, then woken up at 7 AM and forced to get three vials' worth of blood absorbed from my body. Then I had to do get a urinary sample. (Well that wasn't ALL bad. They had some interesting diagrams on the wall. ~.^)
___
I have many other things to whine and talk about, but I'll do that later.

Playstation 2...
I have joined the Sony side of the force.
I woke up the other day and automatically said to myself, "Hey! I have, like, no good RPGs for Nintendo Gamecube!" It was from this point on that I was on a quest.. A quest of epic proportions, to gain a Playstation 2. But of course, to do this, I would need to spare my anime/manga funds.. So that led to a sub-quest. I am on a quest of epic proportions to convince my parents to buy a Playstation 2!
My father was not so hard to win over.. I told him about all of the shooter games. He was in immediately. The only time he doesn't seem all for it is when my mother is around.
My mom, though, has resisted. She thinks having two consoles of the same generation is foolish.
She, however, didn't know Kingdom Hearts had Disney characters. To quote her: "Ohhh! Disney characters! It's so SWEET that, even at your age, you still like Mickey.." She says that she would gladly play Kingdom Hearts. Which is weird.
The only other game she's good at is Super Breakout.
More on this as the story develops.

My report card..
Yay, my report card for the first trimester came in.
I have a GPA of 4.0 (Damn you, Shinmaru.. Beating me by .4 points..!), getting an A in each subject.
I'm not bragging, though.. The past two math quizzes of mine have not been very good. I understand the concepts well enough, and I test well.. But, for some odd reason, the demonic Mrs. Baughman's quizzes consist of, oh, 5 questions, five points each.. She takes two points off for any minor flaw in work.
I'm getting very tired of 3-step equations.
x + 8 = 16
8-8=0 16-8=8
x=8
---
x + 8 = 16
8 + 8 = 16
16=16 *check mark*
Now we all know that the answer is obviously 8.. And in a career based on writing or drawing, what is the purpose of this? I don't mind learning it; in fact we're through with it now.. Now we're learning how to graph inequalities. o.o I'm just afraid of my grades slipping some..
^_^ Well, on the bright side, quizzes bear on our greats in a small way.

Argh.
This makes me irritated.
Okay, well art class has been fine and dandy, and I have been placed in the advanced, all-year class with mostly people who really could care less about learning (i.e. this one girl to the left of me whose mentality is "If I don't do anything I still get a B, so what-ever"), but also a good amount of people who like manga and anime. And I thought I was one of three otaku in my school. But, nay, for there are five eighth graders into Shonen Jump. Of course, they can't draw well or know what "otaku" means, but nevertheless they like Japanese entertainment and DON'T think it's Chinese.
Argh.. And there's someone in the class who draws better than me. My title as "master of artistry" in my class has been overthrown by some Inuyasha-obsessed eighth grader.
I MUST regain my position as #1 in the class. I MUST do nothing but draw for five hours a day. I have to achieve my ambitions for my own self-satisfaction..!

Oh, and I wrote this essay for Language Arts where we were supposed to make people cry to get an A. Mine was about how all human lives are meaningless in the vast perspective of things, and how we're all going to die alone some day.
It probably won't make anyone cry, but I hope that I'll make at least one person's day a little darker. ~.^

Discount anime? Is it legit?
Well, recently I have come across the joy of discount anime sites, introduced to me by my good friend Syk3. Yet, I can't help but wonder...
How can they get all 26 episodes of a series on 3 DVDs and sell it for $30? Is it legal? Is it pirated? Does it matter whether or not if it is pirated, as long as it's what I want? What happens if I get in trouble for purchasing it? Is that even possible? So many questions..
Please reply if you know anything about the topic.
Oh, by the way, the site is www.animediscount.net. Anyone use it before?
