Ok, yesterday I left a semi-cryptic post about the streetsweeper. Now, this may seem like a strange subject for a post...and it is, but allow me to explain.

My house is between two roads. One is a residential street. It's quiet, peaceful, serene, and only every once in a while does someone pretend it is a drag strip. Of course this is the side that my parents' room is...

The second is a fairly busy highway. On the other side of the highway is a grocery store. This is the side of the house that the bedroom Thrush and I share and also Silver Falcon's room is on. The picture was taken out my bedroom window.

The grocery store gets its parking lot swept by a street sweeper about twice a week. The street sweeper is an insane psycotic thing. I have never met the person who drives the streetsweeper, but I bet dollars to donuts that they walk like a zombie due to the evil influences of their vehicle.

Now, this grocery store is also fairly busy. As far as I know, it's one of those "Open 24 hours" places, and it's definatly open during the day, so I understand why the street sweeper can't sweep the parking lot in the morning or afternoon. But what time does the street sweeper work? MIDNIGHT!!!!

Now, I don't know about you, but once I'm asleep, I don't hear anything. I could sleep through a hurricane. However, I can't fall asleep if there's a noise. And if I'm not asleep by midnight, I will usually not fall asleep before 2 or 3. So this psycho of a vehicle is over there, sweeping and creating massive amounts of noise during MY premium sleep time.

Another problem I have with the street sweeper is that it has no logic to the way it sweeps. When I vacuum or sweep, or even when I paint, I go like this.

Logically and neatly. When the street sweeper sweeps the parking lot, it does this:

I dare you to tell me how that is neat. And while it's sweeping so randomly, it's also missing cars by about an inch. No. Really. I swear. There car be five cars in the parking lot, 50 feet between 'em all, and the demon thing that sweeps the parking lot will miss them all by about an INCH! I know I have no room to talk, given my record on steering clear of parked cars, but c'MON! How on EARTH (or Gunsmoke, or wherever) do you come that close to other vehicles so many times in a row?!?

Anyway, that's the saga of the street sweeper. I'm sure I've bored you all to tears by now. Got to go. Later!

Ok, the street sweeper is demented.

That's all I have to say.

I will explain why tomorrow.

Review
I have decided that I will write a review for a good peice of fanfiction at least once a month. Today's story is "Two Weeks" by Garret Jax, who also happens to be a friend of mine.

Summary:
"Two weeks" is an InuYasha story. When Kagome is injured in a fight with a dragon named Atma, the doctors say she has two weeks to live. However, InuYasha learns of a healer named Vadise who can heal anything. The Search for the Shikon Jewel takes a backseat as the whole group begins to search for Vadise. But on this search both InuYasha and Kagome must face the demons inside themselves.

Review:
Jax is a beginning writer, but he's pretty good. The story is well thought out, and there are few loose ends. However, it is part of a larger story, so the loose ends that are there are understandable, and will most likely be taken care of in the next two stories (Right, Garret? *Fixes a mean eye on Garret*)

The characters stay in character most of the time. The one character who goes out of character the most is Kagome, but Garret's a guy, so we'll forgive him for that. The rest of the characters could have been written by the original author. I could hear them actually saying the lines.

This story is VERY Inu/Kag. If you're a Miroku/Kag or Sess/Kag or Koga/Kag or any other pairing fan, I would suggest avoiding this story. It's actually a sore point that he can write better Inu/Kag fluff than I can...however, with that in mind, the fluffy parts aren't too fluffy. They capture the awkwardness of InuYasha and Kagome's feelings for each other almost perfectly.

Personally, my favorite part of the story is Garret's discription of Miroku's "Game", and his youkai city of Shinjuku is awesome. His original characters are interesting. My personal favorite is Kitty, although Aaron is pretty cool too.

The one thing that bothered me the most about "Two Weeks" was the grammer. Some of it was pretty messed up, and it made it a little hard to read. But I'd definatly give it a shot.

"Two Weeks" is a wonderfull story, but at 56 chapters plus an Author's Notes chapter, I wouldn't read it unless you have an afternoon to do it in. And ignore the line at the beginning that says, "Okay, this is gonna be a relatively short fic". It is a lie. As he himself has said, he was being stupid.

"Two Weeks" is PG-13, and I would give it a 4.7 out of 5 rating. It's at fanfiction.net.

Fave Characters
I have a question for you guys: who are your favorite book characters? I read a lot, so I have about 9 million, but here are my top five.

1. Antryg Windrose, the Windrose Chronicles by Barbara Hambly: The reason I like Windrose is because he's insane. He's flamboyent, he likes to collect strange things, and he's a misfit, even from the misfit community. He's a sweet person who was forced to do some pretty bad things early on in life, but he's overcome his past.

2. Sam Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien: I like Sam because I can identify with him. I, too, am incredibly loyal, not too smart or good to look at (but, also like Sam, not dumb or ugly). Sam knows what his job is, and he'll do it to the best of his abilities. He's also fiercly loyal, which is something I understand.

3. Severus Snape, Harry Potter Series, J. K. Rowling: I like Snape because he's about the only teacher at Hogwart's who doesn't let Harry get away with everything. I also like him because he's a very mysterious character...Rowling has hinted at things in his past that made him the way he is, and she also leaves you wondering what it is that he did to gain Dumbledore's trust...

4. Elda, Dark Lord of Derkholm and Year of the Griffen, Diana Wynne Jones: I like Elda because she's the perfect example of an 18 year old girl...who just happens to be a griffen. She suffers normal teenage emotions like sibling rivalry and crushes, but she also has to deal with emotions native only to griffens and also with the fact that she's a very powerful wizard-in-training.

Well, how about you?

Ray Bradbury
There is a poetry to his words; a bittersweet song of imagination; a song of prose that trips easily of the tongue; of metaphor and simile that fit easily into tales of Space and Time. His stories contradict each other - love/hate, fear/joy, melancholy/happiness - and yet, somehow, we don't mind. They reach from the age of the King Lizards to the Time of the Rockets, with stops in between for Melville and Dickens, Laurel and Hardy, Hollywood and Greentown, Illinois.

His words bring images; images of sun-filled afternoons, of inky-black nights, of wildernesses unimaginable to cities unseen; of moons, planets, suns and stars, of monsters and ghosts, goblins and specters, ghouls and aliens and people. Famous people, fake people, children loosely based in reality, with robotic nannies and virtual nurseries and tennis shoes that make you as sure-footed as a gazelle.

There is a rhythm when you read; unknowingly, you slide the words into this rhythm. His words fit the rhythm as if the rhythm was made for them. His words make you laugh, they make you cry, and they make you sit up in bed, afraid to close your eyes. For what may come when you close them? What may come – or, perhaps, what may you miss…?

P.S. That was a creative writing piece I did earlier this year about my fav. author, Ray Bradbury.
