In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

There's been something in the air lately...the whole world seems like it's holding its breath. Maybe it's the stuff going on in Iraq, maybe it's that I'm graduating, but the world in general feels like the air before a thunderstorm. It's tense...and I don't like tense. I think I need sleep. Sorry for the depressing post. I'll have a longer, happier one tomorrrow, hopefully.

have a confession to make: I am a big astronomy junkie. I'm addicted to stars. I just love to look at them. And I found this really cool poem by Robert Frost about a constellation:
The great Overdog
That heavenly beast
With a star in one eyes
Gives a leap in the east.
He dances upright
All the way to the west
And never once drops
On his forefeet to rest.
I'm a poor underdog,
But to night I will bark
With the great Overdog
That romps in the dark.
I used to have a telescope, but I was too young to figure out how to use it, so I returned it and spent the money on (of all things) a horse fo my Barbie doll. How dumb is that? Anyway, I have long since regretted doing that. My favorite constellation is Ursa Major, aka The Big Dipper. And, in case you can't tell, I'm in a better mood today.
Later!

Drive, He Said
On a desert road that steamed the sky
with the windows up and the air on high
I was off the stage, I was on the mend
with a solo drive to a holiday weekend
my thirsty car came to a stop at the Reptile Gardens Curio Shop
when a wind came hissing through the vents,
and I felt my sneakers growing tense
my forehead broke in a cold, cold sweat--
in the rearview mirror was a silhouette
then I heard the doorlocks take a dive
and a whisper screamed "Don't turn around, just drive"
Scratch! Dressed in red--pointy tail and horn-rimmed head
and a widow's peak like Eddie Munster
I sat frozen in my seat--"We haven't had the chance to meet...
are you a singing telegram or something?"
he just flashed a hellish smile--"Let's go driving for a while"
he held something in his hand I'd never seen before
it was my Chevrolet's pink slip
Scratch! Evil eye
"Step on it, boy, if you want to stay alive" he said
"Don't look surprised, you know what I want
I've lived for years inside your trunk, so drive" he said
"Let's get talking business, son--you ain't fooling anyone
I know just what you want to be--now it's time to work for me, so drive"
If this is a nasty dream
I'd prefer to wake up here
I believe the point is clear...
Scratch! Out of my car!
He said "Ha! I've come too far...
besides, I kinda like the velour seatcovers"
God, help me! What do I do?
"Shut up boy, it's too late for you...now drive!
all you phonies get it wrong--double lives take half us long
should have kept your windows clean--now I'm part of this machine
you've got a good 80,000 miles left
before the recall..."
If this is a nasty dream
I believe the point's quite clear
I'd prefer to wake up here
I started humming Amazing Grace
he said "Come on, boy, give me a break"
so I hit the brakes with both my feet
and sent two horns through the bucket seat
then the locks shot up as the grace came down
I said "Here's the keys--I'll be walking back to town..."
Yes, I know it's a weird song. I like weird songs. I think you've all figure that out by now. The song is very strange musically, too...the middle sections are almost disco-esque in style. And yes, it is Steve Taylor.
It is exactly fourteen days until I graduate. I feel so weird. I've feel like doing school is all I've ever really done. Who will I be when I don't have to get up in the morning and do math? When I don't have lessons? I'm used to doing school. I'm home-schooled, so it's not like I'm leaving friends behind, but it still feels strange.
I'm going to take a year off after I graduate, so I can figure out just what I want to do....I know I want to do something with art, but I don't know what yet. I would love to be a manga artist, but I can never finish stories, and when I try to do original poses they turn out funny. I'm thinking maybe graphics designer, or something like that. In addition to trying to figure out what I want to be, I'll also be working. I don't know where yet. But I need $$, because college is just so stinkin' expensive! I'd feel bad if I made my parents pay all of my tuition.
I feel so...overwhelmed. My entire future is like a blank sheet of paper, waiting for me to draw on...I have so many ideas, but I'm afraid of messing up...and I don't like eraser marks.
On a lighter note, my first of two graduation parties is this weekend. I have relitives coming from Pittsburgh and Philly. It should be fun. Thanks for listening to my rambling. Later!

I'm on late tonight...my dad's on third shift this week, so he was sleeping in the afternoon.
"Journey to the end of day,
Come the firefly,
Come the moon;
Say a prayer for God's good grace,
And sleep with love upon your face..."
To all my MO friends.
