Heston is just a sweet pup!

Heston was a rescue pup. One day I got a call from a friend who was at work when this little stray pup wandered into the building. It was the begining of March and the snow was still on the ground.

She said he was really sickly looking and wanted me to come check him out. The idea was I would take him home until morning then take him out to the Humane Society. I went to check him out and when I saw him it broke my heart. He was covered in fleas and ticks, you could see his ribs sticking out and he was really afraid of people. He is some sort of German Shepherd mix breed.

My friend tried to give him some turkey from her sandwich but he wouldn't take it from her. He would just hide his face in the corner. Even though he looked like he was starving he wouldn't eat. It really made me wonder what he had gone through. Who were his owners? He was about 12 weeks old so someone had to have been "taking care" of him.

I took him home and he wouldn't eat anything. I left him with some blankets and a big bowl of food and water in the kitchen. I walked out of the kitchen to get him more blanket and was gone for maybe 2 minutes at the most. When I came back all the food and water was gone and he was right where I had left him.

He must have inhaled the food! I knew there was no way I was going to take him to the dog pound. Obviously the people who had him before didn't care about him. He had no tags, covered in fleas and tick AND so thin! I think the thing that bothered me the most was how afraid of people he was, especially men. What had he gone through before I got him?

He is still a bit shy around new people but he has really warmed up to people. Heston loves kittens and puppies. He makes happy little grunts when he sees a baby animal. If you hold a pup or kitten infront of him he will grunt happily and groom it. He really is a very sweet boy.

Because of the little noises he makes I just call him my little grunty. That and it seems like he is always hungry!

Feed me I am hungry! Oink!

One more quick story before I go to bed. Heston ran into our screen door (yes, the same one Brynner knocked out the other day) but he was more like the Grunty that Tsukasa is riding in the picture above. He just smashed his head into the screen and bounced off. It was really funny! At least he didn't knock the door out of the frame!!
