So this will just be a quick update. Not too much has happened, but some noteworthy events have taken place. As most of you who read this thing on a somewhat common basis know I am involved with journalism at my school, and we run a very competitive program; "very" being a rather massive understatement, lol. People do not even like us because we are that way, but our newspaper is still better ... We are the only ones in the area who do a feature magazine. The department has won a lawsuit in the past about prior review and freedom of the press. So they got nothing.

Anyway, we enter a bunch of competitions, and recently we received some information back concerning them. Apparently I placed First in the Info Graphic category. So out of everyone in the state of Nebraska that competed, mine was apparently the best of them all. I also got in the top 12 for entertainment writing and another info graphic, I guess. I did not even really like what took first, lol, but it worked for them. They did not like my editorial cartoons, though. I am just saying mine were "too much for them," lol. They simply just could not like my style. However, I won something in another competition for cartoons, I do not know what place yet.

The Edge cover.
Edge: Aristotle's 14 Emotions
This is the cover of our newspapers occasional feature magazine, the Edge. This issue featured the theme of Aristotle's 14 Emotions: Anger, Confidence, Love, Envy, Indignation, Mildness, Benevolence, Shamelessness, Shame, Pity, Contempt, Fear, Enmity and Emulation.

1st Place Info Graphic Winner
State Competition First Place Info Graphic
This is a scan of a portion of the front page my winning info graphic appeared on ... Not my best material at any rate, but whatever floats their boat, lol.

Also, we are beginning to sell our visual/literary arts magazine, Static. It is 128 pages, half in color, and contains four different sections: poetry, commentary, short stories, and visuals. It is $5. I think some of you should buy one, lol. It has a spine for Pete's sake (that I designed by the way, I also did a lot of work with the cover and back). I am not sure how you would go about paying for it, but I am sure we could work something out. We are selling them before we are letting anybody look at them, but I have seen it and it looks very, very cool. Our adviser actually shuddered when he first held it, and he never does that, lol. He said it is everything he thought it would be. So yeah, if you are at all interested, let me know, lol. I could probably e-mail you the phone number up to the journalism room and you could talk to our adviser about it. You will be missing out if you do not buy one. Five dollars is a bargain for what you are getting. I bought two, myself, lol.

Anyway, college is a bitch. I feel a community college would be a slam on myself, so I think I am going to scrap what plans I had. However, I have started applying for the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL). My adviser has been pushing me to go there for journalism, so I finally said, "why not?" I am going there for another state competition in May. Apparently, our editor in chief has mentioned my name to a guy who likes a lot of another guy's graphics who came from Central, and said he would keep me in mind or something. So that should be interesting. I imagine I shall meet him when I go the state competition.

The one thing I hate about UNL is the fact that it is still a Nebraska school. I cannot believe I am going to be a Husker ... -__- Just seeing that giant "N" on the front of the application was enough to make me want to vomit. In fact, I am getting queezy just thinking about it right now ...

So that is my life currently.
