"But, why?" she asked me, with tears down her face, just before I killed her.
"There is no sense in giving you an answer." I replied coldly, before I slit her throat. Her lifeless body hit the floor. Not another sound was to be heard. I walked out of her home, feeling no regret nor loss. I came and I did what was necessary. That was the way I worked. I had no emotions. And I had no remorse for any of those that were subjected to their deaths by my blade. An assassin. That is my job in life. It is what I do best.

I continued walking down the desolate path that was surrounded by cherry blossoms. “How fitting.” I said to myself, “The blossoms fall so easily to the wind, just like those I have destroyed. I am feared by those who know me. They don't dare to step in my path. They shake in fear when they hear my name, Takana Akihiro. The assassin that wields the blade of death.”

The wind had started to pick up. I looked to the sky and saw that dark clouds were coming and quick. I picked up my pace and continued on. The rain had started to fall, but it wasn’t heavy. It was refreshing. I took my sword out and I let the rain cleanse it’s blade. The rain. It had made me remember things I didn’t want to remember. All of a sudden, the rain was painful and cold. I sheathed my sword and I ran to the nearest shrine, thinking about the past.

It wasn’t long until I reached it. I crouched next to the statue of the monk and I looked around at my surroundings. I saw offerings to the monk in the corner. I rummaged through them and found a straw hat.
I placed it on without any regards to the monk, and I sat there waiting for the rain to end. I guess I had fallen asleep because it had stopped raining and it was getting close to dark. I stood up, unaware of what was around me and I walked out. I lifted up my head and took the hat off and threw it back into it’s rightful corner. I had now begun continuing my journey back to my client’s home to tell him of the success.

I hadn’t gone far when someone had begun shouting.
“Sir! Excuse me! Hey, are you listening?! HEY!”
I stopped in my tracks. I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I unsheathed my sword as I heard the stranger running down towards me. I turned quickly as the footsteps approached and my blade was less than an inch from their face. Her face. She was breathing fast, with a look of bewilderment and shock. Did time stop? It felt like we were standing there for eternity, looking at each other. It was quiet. I stood straight and I lowered my sword back into it’s sheathe. She gave a sound of relief and stood casually.

“Are you deaf or are you just an idiot?! Or maybe you just ignore people when they shout for you!” she had shouted out. I gave her a look of disbelief. Does she not know who I am? She dares to yell at me, Takana Akihiro? I turned around and I started to walk away.

“That is just rude! How dare you turn away from a lady in distress!”
I turned around, and I looked at her straight in the eyes. Her eyes were amazing. They were like pools of water on a spring night. No, I have a job to finish.
“Woman, I have no business with you, nor do I wish to have any placed upon me. You are wasting what’s left of day and my time. Do not bother me again, or else you will know who I am.”
“Well guess what, sir, I do know who you are. You’re the infamous assassin, Takana Akihiro. And if you think your cool exterior can frighten me away that easily, you have another thing coming. Now you will listen to me and hear me out if you know what’s good for you!”
“I don’t think so.” I said to her, and I walked away, without turning back as she shouted at me.

“It’s about time, Takana. So? How did it go?” Tsurimi Shunichi asked, eating as usual. He is my current job. The one who is going to pay me for the death of that girl. That fat, gluttonous pig. I closed the door behind me and I sat across from him on the floor.
“She has been taken care of, sir. You don’t need to worry about her anymore. Her mouth will speak no more.”
He gave a hearty laugh, spraying small chunks of his meal out. Disgusting.
“Good. That stupid bitch won’t speak of lies anymore behind my back and steal my money and eat all my food. She was only good for one thing, y’know...” He started to cough and wheeze. I sat and did nothing.
“Where is my money?” I asked, bluntly and straight to the point. He looked at me with those beady eyes of his that were engulfed in his fat face. Again, disgusting.
“What? Oh, here you go.” He threw a small, brown pouch at me. I opened it and examined my pay. I closed it, and I stood up, heading for the door. He began to laugh, but it sounded more like he was wheezing.
“One more question for you, Takana. Did you screw the little bitch before you killed her, or after?” He laughed more. I turned around and looked at him.
“What’s with that stone glare, friend?” He was laughing even more. I am no friend to him, or anyone else. Sickening.
“Oh come on, now Takana. There’s no need to brood. It is a simple question, after all. Heh, I wouldn’t be surprised if those rogues of thieves do her as well. It is, after all, the only thing she’s good for.”
“Shut your mouth.”
“What? You know it’s true. Hey, if you didn’t get a good lick off of her, then don’t take your anger out on me. You can still go back and satisfy yourself before it’s too late. Trust me, I know.”
I lowered my head in disgust as he laughed. I unsheathed my sword, and with a quick swipe of anger, he was cut off. His head fell onto that floor, staining it with his sick blood. I went to his body and ripped off a piece of his clothing and wiped my blade clean.
“You sick, disgusting, fool.”
I walked out his door that was gently sprayed with his blood. The moon was high and the night air was cool, but warm at the same time. Calm and security. I fingered the pouch that I had earned, looking down at it. I looked back to the road, and I continued on my path of life, and of death.
