The joy of Check Change
I love being on financial aid because you normally get a nice little check that you are supposed to use to buy textbooks with.....that I'm going to spend on booze and anime. :D I picked up a few titles yesterday, the ghetto signature series first DVD of Serial Experiment Lain and the first two DVDs of Someday's Dreamers, which I finally got around to watching today. I don't have a fully created opinion yet, but here's a few notes I have so far about the show.
- The animation is so soft, the colors are very light and gentle. It looks like a lot of cg was used too. I'll have to find out more about that. It looks very nice, especially when Yume uses her magic.
- The English dub has some crappy accents. Sometimes Yume goes into this southern accent that sounds sorta creepily like a West Virginia accent. And don't even get me started on Angela's accent... I don't even understand why the dubbing offices even try, local Japanese accents are just not going to translate. Like on Love Hina, all I wanted to do was kick the tv everytime Kitsune said anything...same thing goes for Someday's Dreamers.
- Why were there only three kids in that class watching the eclipse?
- The show moves a little slow and a new character gets introduced in every episode..sometimes like 3 or 4 characters, I've already forgotten the names of them all.
- Why in God's name would someone get anal if a mage filled their shirt with money?
I'm enjoying SD so far, the soundtrack is nice, although simple. I'm not going to go out of my way and say (..s**t, just got a phone call from my boss, looks like I get to hit OT for like the 3rd week in a row :|) that this is a show everyone would enjoy. I mean, my Mom really liked it. It's soft and slow and sorta cute, with emphasis on the relationships that the characters maintain with one another. I'll have a better review when the third DVD comes out.
Tomorrow I'm going to finally order the rest of Chobits, FLCL, and Ai Yori Aoshi, so I'll try to get a review of one of those by next weekend. I'm sorry I'm not much of an updater, but hey...it's quality over quantity, right? *Just shut up about wisecracks about quality right now :P*
