Clair de Lune-- Chapter 5
When Joey awoke, he saw the most beautiful girl, in his eyes, lying right next to him. He gently brushed his hand against her face. Her skin was like porcelain, and her cheeks were framed by her dark lashes. She was leaning against him, her cheek against his shoulder. She looked so peaceful. Her hair was splayed about her shoulders and her cheeks. She was pale in her sleep, and Joey wondered if something were wrong. Her hair and lashes were so dark, and it added a deeper field of emotions to her face as she slept.
"She's like a dark beauty, no?" a voice from behind him said.
He turned to see who it was. It was a man, possibly a friend of Elise's and Maelie's. He didn’t appear human, so he went with his instincts. He nodded slowly, taking in the man’s features as he answered.
“Yes,” he spoke softly. “She is... very, actually.”
The man smiled, his dark features giving off an evil aura about him. He was dressed as the night, and his skin was fair, more so than any human’s. His eyes were of the deepest black, more so than Joey’s. His build spoke of power, and yet he didn’t seem to be a lot of muscle, given his skinny stature.
His voice was like the night too. “I see... Maelie told me of you two. Elise I just had to see for myself. Forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Drakor.”
"I'm Joey... Elise's husband. Pleasure to meet you Drakor."
He nodded. "Same, I'm sure..." His gaze drifted back to Elise’s figure. “She’s very lovely. Every word of it as Maelie described. You say... you are her husband?”
“Yes. I am, and I love her dearly, as she loves me.” Joey’s eyes held defiance. He didn’t like the way this Drakor looked at Elise with awe.
“I see... Maelie forgot to mention that. Ah well...” he shrugged, and looked back to Joey, his eyes showing a challenge. “I wish the both of you luck in your life. Who knows, you may need it, may not.... Farewell.”
Joey watched Drakor walk away, his moves graceful and everything seeming to shrink from him, until he vanished as Maelie had that night. Joey scowled. He didn’t like Drakor. He seemed to be plotting something, something he didn’t think to be good. He glanced back to Elise, her eyes wide open, as she began to sit up.
“Oh... what an awful dream....” she whispered, rubbing her eyes and stretching stiffly. “I dreamt I saw these evil black eyes... staring at me, and I heard voices. Two men.... One sounded very much like you, love.”
Joey smiled. “I’m sorry you had a bad dream, angel. Would you like for me to make it go away?”
“Yes...” she nodded. She smiled childishly as she mewed during her stretches. “I would, if you’d be able to.”
Joey smiled, leaning back over to kiss her. He took her hands in his, trailing his kisses along her neck. Elise smiled all the more, and moved her head to the side for him to reach it better. Joey grinned and kissed her cheek, pulling her into his lap.
“Better?”
“Much... Thank you....” she spoke gently. Elise wrapped her arms around Joey’s neck and leaned up to claim his lips with her own. “I love you.... You know it?”
“I do... and I’m glad.” Joey kissed her back. “Think we should get back home? So no one knows we were out all night?”
Elise nodded, and sighed, stretching a bit more, and thinking she was going to stand up on her own, but Joey instead picked her up. She wrapped her arms around his neck quickly, startled, as she let out a small yelp of surprise.
“Joey! Why do you not ever tell me before you do such?” she yelled slightly, her heart still racing and her eyes wide.
“I am sorry angel.... I won’t do it again before telling you.”
“Thank you... now... would you mind putting me down?”
“Sorry,” he grinned, his tone playful. “I can’t do that angel. It goes against who I am.”
She playfully hit his chest. “Oh! You liar! Put me down. You know how I hate to be picked up!”
Joey kissed her deeply, silencing any further protests, and she melted against him. “Again, I’m sorry, but I cannot, angel.”
“I hate you.... You are mean... You horrid jerk...” she sighed playfully, hugging him.
“Oh, but if you hated me, why love my kisses and hug me?” Joey winked, hugging her closer and leaning down to pick up the cloaks, her still in his grip.
“True... I suppose I don’t hate you then. You are sweet... irritating when you choose to be, but sweet....”
“I know, and you are perfect, Elise. I love you....” He kissed her, then walked until they were out of Rowan Oak.
Joey had finally let Elise down, and when they got back to their home, Elise immediately jumped to the bed and hugged the pillows. Joey followed curiously.
“Elise, is there something wrong?”
She grinned widely. “Nope! I’m just glad to be back in a warm place.... I love my home, but Rowan Oak is also my home.... the place in between is far too cold, and I always long for my warm bed once I get back...” She pushed her face further into the pillows.
“I see...” Joey looked at her curiously for a moment, then took in her childish state and laughed.
“Find something funny?” Elise was in his face when he opened his eyes. God, how the beauty could move.
“Not at all, love.... I was merely noting how cute you look, laying there.”
She huffed, then turned away, making him think she was made. Then, when he apologized, she turned back with another big grin, and hugged him. “I know! I love you...”
“And I you, my angel...” He kissed the top of her head, thoughts of Drakor still bothering him.
“Hon, what’s wrong?”
“Oh... nothing. I’m just thinking. As you know, memories tend to come up from time to time...”
“Shall we make those horrid things go away?” She winked, and he knew what was coming.
“Why not? I cannot change your mind, and nor would I wish to.” He grinned devilishly, and followed her to the other side of the room.
The couple had laughed and played, as newly married couples do, and then they were resting in each other’s arms in bed.
“Elise... how many of the faeries have you met?”
“Only the prince, and Maelie... why?”
“What’s the prince’s name?”
“Kindra. Why? IS something wrong?”
He shook his head at her worried glance. “No, nothing is wrong my love. Angel, you would tell me if Maelie or another of the faeries comes to you and asks you something you don’t like, correct?”
Elise shook her head. “I must stop you right there. I know you well enough by now to tell when something’s wrong. Out with it Joey. I want to help, I’m here for you. Please, tell me what’s been bothering you since we got back?”
He sighed, loving the way she looked beside him under the red sheets. Her pale shoulders shimmering like glitter, and her arms bare. Her hair spiraling down her back, her eyes shimmering. “Alright. I shall tell you what is wrong.”
He began to tell her of the encounter with Drakor, and Elise’s eyes widened as Joey described him.
“Elise, what is it angel?”
“He... he is the Dark Prince, of faeries. I’d no idea Maelie spoke with him... Heh, possibly to get on his better side.”
“The Dark Prince? Great...”
She stared at him for a moment, then sat up, pulling the covers with her. “What is it you’ve not yet told me Joey?”
“The way he looked at you... like he was fawning over your very presence, like you were a goddess to him, or something....” Joey lovingly looked down to her. “Not that you aren’t one...”
Elise giggled as Joey kissed her neck, then her shoulders, his hands trailing down her back in a loving manner. He gently pushed her back onto the bed once more, and kissed her. Once more, the couple enjoyed their week-long honeymoon. They laughed and played all day, and fell asleep as nightfall came.
