A tragic day...

I don't know if many of you know this, but I am actually a college student attending a public university in Virginia. I do not attend Virginia Tech, but I have many friends that do, as a lot of kids from my High School went there. Most college students in VA know at least one person that goes to any university here.

When the news broke out, it made for some very tense hours filled with anxiety at all Virginia campuses. As I said before, most of us have friends at other schools, and I contacted everyone I knew at Tech to make sure they were alright. Luckily, no one I know was hurt. One of my good friend's professor's was shot, and maybe killed. I did not press her for answers, as she's probably in grief with the rest of her campus, Virginia, and the US. I can't even begin to imagine what these students are going through, on top of all the added anxieties of college. I'm sure most people can't.

We were informed by our own school that the state police had informed all other colleges that the Virginia Tech shooting was an isolated incident, and that no other schools were in danger. However, most students here were concerned with making sure our friends were ok. A girl in my sociology class was making frantic calls the 15 minutes before class, and luckily she heard her friend was ok by the time class started. On campus today, we had both a prayer, and a question and answer session. As I had class and club obligations, I could not attend either, but my heart still goes out to my friends at Tech, and the friends and families of anyone there.

I hope this incident does not decrease enrollment at VA Tech, as it is a great school. It's one of the best in not only the state, but the nation. This incident could have happened anywhere, and I think it's important to remember that. If anyone on this site is applying for college, and Tech was one of your options, please do not let this dissuade you, as it is still a fantastic school.

Not to mention, it makes for some great football.

There will probably be repercussions for all VA campuses from this, resulting in increased security. Which would actually be a plus on our campus, since the RAs don't seem to take their jobs too seriously.

Anyways, after about 6 hours straight of listening to the same things over and over on CNN Radio (they had Larry King interview Dr. Phil...who does that?) I watched some Dane Cook and Fullmetal Panic to cheer me up. I wish there was more Kurz fanfiction though...

I also wanna say thanks to Duorocks (aka. Nami-chan) for checkin in on me, and ColorMeEvil for sending me some awesome Mega 64 videos. This Paperboy one's actually my favorite, because I loved that game as a kid...

There are not many developments in the VA Tech case, but I'm sure we'll all be filled in soon enough. Once again, my thoughts and hearts go out to the friends and families of the Hokies.
