Chapter 1 ~ Mystery Girl
The temple was quiet, but no one rested. Everyone was sitting around, and watching the chase outside the window. A shadowy figure had appeared outside the temple a little over three hours ago. Tsume, a white-haired teen, had been following it since then. They disappeared from the window, and Tsume stopped. "Wonderful. I've followed him all this way and lose him!" "And what makes you think I'm a him?" asked a cold voice from behind him. Tsume turned around to see a brown-haired girl with blue and green highlights. Next to her sat a wolf. "Meet Navoku. My Guardian." she said to him. Tsume reached for his dagger. "Don't pull it out. It would only result in another chase, and you can't take another one." the girl stated. "Tsume, stop!" yelled a shaggy-haired boy. "Kiba." the girl greeted him. "Riku." he replied. "You, uh, know each other?" asked one. "Yes, Hige. She is my sister." Kiba replied. "Well, ya learn somethin' new every day..." the one called Hige mumbled. "I'll show you to your room." Tsume said shortly. Riku glanced at Kiba, who shrugged, and then turned to follow Tsume. Later that day, she was seated on the window seat when there was a knock on the door. "Come in." she said, without looking away from the window. Hige sat himself down next to her. Riku barely looked at him Hige followed her gaze to see Tsume, sitting in a tree with Riku's Guardian. "He's trouble, you know. He's my friend, but he's a loner, and he's not very nice." Hige said. "And you're different?" Riku countered. Hige looked hurt. "Well, yeah. You're just like Tsume, you know. Only cuter." he added. Hige smiled and left the room. Riku waited till she heard Hige go down the hall a bit, and then pulled out a picture of a raven-haired girl with red and silver highlights. "Oh, Kiki..." Riku murmured, tears falling from her eyes onto the frame. Tsume walked in. "i wanted to tell you dinner's at six. Riku! What's wrong?" he asked, sitting down next to her. Riku quickly wiped her eyes. "I-it's my best friend. I lost her, and my brother, one year ago." she said, sniffing. He picked her up gently and put her on his lap. "It'll be OK." he said quietly. "Hige said you weren't nice." Riku said suddenly. "Why are you nice to me?" Tsume smiled softly. "Well, Riku, let's just say you changed me a bit."
