The Best Laid Plans...

Ah, I love this new 24 hour Otaku feature. I can now update at completely random times. Woooh! Maybe that will help break me out of my weird, sporadic update patterns. Anyway, recently I’ve been trying to invest in a good manga series for my little sister. She enjoys manga, and has no qualms about reading right to left, but most (if not all) of my series are too old for her. I mean, she reads Fruits Basket, but even that is sometimes a bit inappropriate for a 10 year old (luckily those same instances are typically the ones she glosses over since she doesn’t understand what’s going on). Of course, I want to be able to enjoy the series as well, since I’m the one paying for it, so I went and bought the first 6 volumes of the CardCaptor Sakura series (typically considered a manga classic for all ages). Although I bought them on eBay and Amazon (it was way cheaper), so I’ll have to wait a few days for them to arrive. I’ve been meaning to get around to reading them anyway, and I’m sure my love of Tsubasa gave me a little nudge in that direction as well ^_^ Of course, shortly after I bought the books, I remembered that in the series: a) Yukito is in love with his best friend Touya (who’s Sakura’s brother), b) Tomoyo apparently is crushing on Sakura, c) Syaoran has a crush on Yukito for a time, d) Sakura’s parents met and married while her mother was 16 and her father was a 25 year old student teacher at her school, and that e) one of Sakura’s 10 year old classmates is in love with their teacher *slaps forehead* Sometimes I feel the universe wants my sister to have an immediate crash course in all of the major controversial cultural differences between Japan and America, instead of the gradual one I had planned. However, on the upside, I did manage to find this site that has cute and occasionally hilarious little character taglines below the links to the character bios, which I will proceed to post for amusement’s sake… Kinomoto Sakura Our uber-cute heroine in shining costume. Kero-chan/Cerberus Measuring up to less than 2 feet, this plushie-like creature is not one to be messed around with. Daidouji Tomoyo She's a fluffy, camera-wielding, costume-making, starry-eyed 10 year-old. Fear her. Li Syaoran What's Chinese, serious and kickass? You guessed it. Kinomoto Touya He has a secret... he can see dead people. Tsukishiro Yukito He's one mean eating machine with something to hide. Kinomoto Fujitaka Is it a bird? A plane? No, it's Super-Dad! Yue BISHOUNEN ALERT: Looking for a mysterious entity, we hear he's blazing hot. Hiiragizawa Eriol A crazy little boy who uses an evil stick. Scary, no? My personal favorites are the ones for Tomoyo and Syaoran ^_^ -Quotation of the day- Dwayne: "I wish I could just sleep until I was eighteen and skip all this crap, high school and everything, just skip it." Frank: "You know Marcel Proust?" Dwayne: "He's the guy you teach." Frank: "Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent 20 years writing a book almost no one reads. But he's also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway, he uh... he gets down to the end of his life, and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered, those were the best years of his life, 'cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn't learn a thing. So, if you sleep until you're 18... Ah, think of the suffering you're gonna miss. I mean high school? High school, those are your prime suffering years. You don't get better suffering than that." Dwayne: "You know what? Fuck beauty contests. Life is one fucking beauty contest after another. School, then college, then work... Fuck that. And fuck the Air Force Academy. If I want to fly, I'll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and fuck the rest." Frank: “I’m glad you started talking again, Dwayne. You’re not nearly as dumb as you look.” -Little Miss Sunshine- (a great movie, not so much funny, really, as it is just plain odd)
