Movies, Anime, And Such

Wow, it’s so hard to break habits. When I didn’t have a computer, I was practically clawing out the floorboards in distress. Now that I do have one again, it’s like, “What? Oh yeah, that thing. That’s right, I can post again.” Weird.

Well I was a nice sister yesterday (Friday) and took my little sister and brother to go see The Nightmare Before Christmas. They rather enjoyed it, so everything’s groovy ^_^ I just love twisting small children to my image. I’ve already converted all of the neighbor kids I baby-sit. In fact, the youngest one, the two year old, even told me that she liked the “scary movie”, and she can recognize songs from it. *squeal* That’s so adorable!

And I must say this: I apologize for making this another excessive NBC post. But I’ve been thinking again lately (scary) and I just came across a revelation. My revelation is that I feel sorry for anyone (teenager and above) who found out about the movie after the 10th anniversary and seriously liked it. First off, they’re probably never going to convince anyone that they’re not posers. And second, they don’t get to experience the story from all stages of life. Different things stick with you or pop out at you during different times. For example, I remember that when I was a little kid my favorite things were
(a) “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”
(b) poking Santa with a pitch-fork
(c) Santa’s funny underwear
(d) the line “I, Jack, the Pumpkin King…that’s right, I am the Pumpkin King!”

As a teenager, I loved
(a) “Poor Jack”
(b) when I noticed that one of the gravestones was a reference to Edvard Munch’s “Scream”
(c) the “two-faced politician” joke
(d) the line “I, Jack, the Pumpkin King…that’s right, I am the Pumpkin King!”

Nowadays (I guess you could call it the college stage) the things that strike me the most are
(a) “Jack’s Lament”
(b) the line “Jack, please, I’m only an elected official here, I can’t make decisions by myself!”
(c) the effects of Jack’s independence and complete selfishness on situations in relation to Sally’s independence and complete selflessness
(d) the line “I, Jack, the Pumpkin King…that’s right, I am the Pumpkin King!” (man, I could never get tired of this one ^_^)

I can’t wait to see what I think of this movie in my next yet to be determined “stage”. It never ceases to tickle my brain, and it always finds ways to surprise me (i.e. my recent revelation that Jack is in fact an emo 0_0)

In today’s news, I must report that I have been sucked in by the anime “Spiral”. I started to read the manga awhile back and I absolutely loved it, but I could never find any chapters after a certain point. It left me sad, but eventually faded from my mind. Just recently however, I saw an ad for the complete anime box-set from FUNimation, and suddenly realized that I could probably hit up YouTube for the episodes. I dived in with reckless abandon and have been recaptured. I can just hear the show laughing evilly from the distance, calling me with its damn entrancing mystery. For those of you who don’t know what it’s about, it’s basically about a guy named Narumi Ayumu whose older brother (a genius and member of the police force) mysteriously disappeared 2 years ago. Before he vanished, he called Ayumu and left him with a cryptic message, something about the “Blade Children”. In the present day, Ayumu lives with his sister-in-law (a police detective) and quietly slacks his way through school, considering the fact that he’s obviously something of a genius as well. But then a series of mysterious and violent events lead Ayumu to encounter the Blade Children for himself as he gets pulled into a series of deadly games designed to test him for some unknown reason. Along for the ride is Yuzaki Hiyono, the head of the school newspaper. She seems to provide much of the comic relief for the series (although there is some pretty funny stuff with Ayumu and his sister) and she has an unparalleled information network at her disposal (unless you’re the CIA), which comes in mighty handy. Now, the beginning of the series might come of as a bit “Detective Conan”-ish, what with Ayumu’s Sherlock Holmes style mystery solving. But the few episodic stories each end up giving a little something to the greater mystery at hand, so they can be forgiven. I’m just now getting past what I read in the manga, so I’m all a flutter. I’m also happy to know that the series has an end, because I know I won’t be left hanging again (unless it’s one of those open-to-interpretation endings… then I’m royally screwed, and someone will have to be hurt). Whether it’s the same ending as the manga, I have no idea, but it’s still an end. And hopefully it will tide me over until Tokyopop decides to get off of it’s fat ass and publish the manga, since they’ve had the rights to it for about a year now >_< Curse you Tokyopop!

Anyway, here are some fun pics ^_^

This one is too funny not to share. Yes, he does wear that apron in the series and it cracks me up every single time *falls over laughing*

Now I'm too tired to eat."
