The Last Kiss
I thought of this story at school today. I would like to warn you that it's not a happy ending.

The Last Kiss

*Knock, knock, knock............knock, knock, knock*
From within a pile of blankets and pillows, two deep, purple eyes open. The pair of tired eyes looks over at the cloak: 7:00AM.
“Who the hell would be up at this hour?” Says a tired voice from within the blankets.
A young girl around the age of 16 crawls out of her warm bed, her black hair falling over her eyes.
*Knock, knock, knock*
“I’m comen’!” She yells as she puts on her black sweater and jeans. It was a very cold winter morning. After putting on her slippers, she rushes downstairs and opens the door. However, no one was there. She stares outside.
“Hello?” She steps out and looks around as it begins to slow lightly. She calls out again, “Hello?”
As she was about to go back inside, she was tackled to the ground. A boy around her age pins her in the cold snow. He then leans in closer......and kisses her lightly on the cheek and says brightly, “Good morning, Keera!”
Keera begins to laugh as her boyfriend Helious helps her to her feet, his short, brown hair blowing in the wind. They smile at each other for a few moments. She stares into his golden eyes, and then tackles him to the ground.
“Was there a reason for waking me up so early, Helious?”
He smiles at her. “I knew you would be a little sore with me, so if you could get off of me for a second, I’ll give you a ’sorry’ gift.”
They both stood up and from within his coat, he pulls out a long stem red rose, Keera’s favorite gift.
She gives him a big hug. “You’re forgiven. Now, what is it you wanted so early?”
They walk inside Keera’s house as he explains, “I was hoping you would like to spend the day with me. It’s so nice today, I thought you’d enjoy a fun snow day.”
Keera gives him a kiss. “I’d love to. Let me get ready!”
A few minutes later, the couple walks through the forest, catching random snowflakes on their tongues. The day was filled with snowball fights, snowmen, snow angels and a delicious lunch that Helious packed, bringing all of Keera’s favorite snacks. Throughout the day, the snow began to fall more and more, unnoticed by the happy lovers. As they sat in the snow enjoying the view of the setting sun, Keera suddenly stood up and pointed at Helious.
“I challenge you to a game of hide-and-seek. If you can’t find me within thirty minutes, you have to carry me home!”
Helious stands up. “Fair enough. But if I do find you within thirty minutes, I get to chase you all the way home.”
Keera pouts her lower lip and gives him the sad puppy dog eyes. “But I’m tired. That’s why I want you to carry me.”
He leans over and kisses her cheek. “Then you better find a good place to hide.”
He turns around and begins to count as Keera runs off to hide.
As the snow falls heavily, and the frigid wind howls through the dark, Keera stumbles through the woods blindly searching for Helious. She had been lost for over an hour.
“Helious! Helious, where are you?”
As she was searching, Keera trips over a root and tumbles down a steep hill. She hits the bottom hard on her leg and breaks her ankle. She cries out in pain and holds her ankle wishing she never played such a stupid game. She propped herself up against a snowy wall and looked around. She had fallen into a deep pit where the only way out was the way she stumbled down, but with her injury, there was no way she could get out alone. As she buried her face into her jacket, she feels a pair of strong loving arms wrap around her. Sitting next to her is Helious with his warming smile. Keera hugs and kisses him.
“Oh Helious! Thank God you’re safe!” I was so scared and I fell down here and hurt my ankle, but now we can go home.”
He closes his eyes and holds her tight.
“I’m sorry, Keera. I’ve been trying to get out of here for almost an hour. This hill is just too steep.”
Keera stares at him for a moment and begins to cry. At the rate the snow was falling, they would be buried by morning. As she cries, Helious moves her into his lap and rocks her gently.
“Shhhhh.....it’ll be okay, we’re together now. Look! I think I have one last present for you.” Again he pulls out a long stem red rose and gives it to Keera. She holds it tightly, for it was the most beautiful rose ever given to her.
As it grew even colder, the lovers grew tired as hypothermia began to set in. Helious, still holding Keera tightly whispered to her, “Please, can I see your beautiful smile one last time?”
With much strength, she lifts her head and smiles. Helious’ eyes began to fill with tears. “That was the same smile you gave me when I first met you, the reason why I fell in love with you. I knew you would be the one I would spend the rest of my life with. I......I just didn’t know how true that was.”
Keera reached up and brushed away the tear that trickled down his cheek.
“I love you, Helious”
Helious smiled at her. “I love you too, Keera.”
And as they kissed for the last time, and as the snow continued to fall, the two lovers fell asleep gently in each other’s arms.
