   Australia Day

It was Australia Day yesterday. I don't really care about holidays much, any excuse to go out and have fun is enough for me. Anyway, I spent most of the day at home working on a fanart of Eruruu, which I'll post up when I'm done typing here.

I just hate the heat, being summer Down Under, it was roughly 40 degrees Celcius. Heat makes me irritated. So my mum, my sister and I headed to the beach to swim and see fireworks.

We left at around 8pm, and boy was finding a parking space a hassle. Cars everywhere, but we eventually found a spot on the road island. Some cars parked in the sand and got stuck.

Not only was finding a parking space difficult, finding an empty spot to sit in was hard, the beach and grass area were packed full of people. Apparently some of the shops in the area ran out of food and drink to sell.

By the time we got settled down, it was pretty dark, around 9pm. So I couldn't really go for a swim, although there were other people still swimming, even at 10pm, I'm just too afraid to enter the water when it's dark, I mean, what if I step on a rock or something?

Before the fireworks started, lightning could be seen, so I worried that it might rain, but it didn't, thank goodness. Lightning plus fireworks makes a very interesting sky show. My mum brought rice, fried chicken wings, biscuits, salmon dip, and watermelon. It was pretty fun, much better than staying inside a hot house.

Heading home, the police had to help direct traffic due to the sheer amount of cars trying to head home at the same time. We managed to get home at around 11pm. Because I didn't get to swim, I might go to the beach again today if it's really hot.

A continuation of the Fruits Basket anime?

... hell no!

Fruits Basket, a really popular manga series by Natsuki Takaya about a girl named Touru Honda who learns about the curse on the Souma family, and upon getting to know some members of the family well, she tries her best to help them.

Don't get me wrong, I love this series, the anime was entertaining, and the manga is simply awesome in many ways. But I think a continuation of the anime series (or a second season) is a bad idea.

While the manga series is still ongoing, the anime series ended at roughly what is covered in Volume 6 of the manga. Which leads many fans hungering for more to be animated. However, I believe that the way the anime series was made, it makes things difficult to make a faithful coninuation.

For example, the anime series makes Akito ... but later in the manga, it's revealed that ... (I won't spoil it for those who don't know, and those who do will know what I'm on about). Also, in the manga, Shigure appears 'darker', whereas the anime makes him out as purely a comedy character with only little hints to his darker side.

What would be nice is not a continuation, but a re-make of the series. This would be best done after the manga series ends so that it's done right. While I havn't read the latest chapter, those who have say that it looks like it's heading for the end.

And here's a link for direct downloads of the Fruits Basket manga: Stop Tazmo

My First Wallpaper
I submitted my first wallpaper just then. It's a simple Inuyasha wallpaper featuring Inuyasha and Kikyou. With the exception of creating "Inuyasha" (that credit goes to Rumiko Takahashi", I did everything else myself, from scanning to colouring and editing.

The scan was one that I took ages ago, it had been sitting on my computer at home. So when I decided to try making a wallpaper, I decided to use that scan. I attempted to clean up the scan, but I just couldn't do it, so I re-drew the picture by tracing it in Photoshop.

After digitally inking the image, I coloured it. Normally I would use just 2 or 3 layers for each colour area, but I put in the extra effort and used 4 or more layers to try and get a certain effect.

For thr background, I used the gradient tool, fade from green to blue, and the I added in the grass and clouds which I learned how to do using different tutorials. After that, I considered adding extra effects, sparkles, random details etc, but I wasn't very good at that, and by then, it had been weeks since I started working on the wallpaper and my motivation to continue was disappearing. So I left it nice and simple.

I haven't posted anything here for a while. The reason is that since I got my new laptop, I switched over from Internet Explorer to Opera and Firefox which don't display this site properly, it becomes this jumbled up mess.

Anyway, my first wallpaper was something I did to test out some of the stuff I learned from Photoshop tutorials. I might make another when I get to know my way around Photoshop better (I still haven't worked out how to use the brushes that I downloaded).
