Rankyo – elements of Phellinia

Long ago, there existed a realm; a magical elfin world… called Phellinia. The realm was one of spiritual belief of reincarnations, or rebirth.

Due to this credence, its people were capable of living for thousands of years without passing away.

Now Phellinia and its people thrived together in harmony... until a curse possessed the land.

Nobody knew how the curse came to be, and nobody dared to defy it.

It is said the curse acts every thousand years, and attached to that curse, a task.

It is told... completing the task would protect the realm, at least for another thousand years.

It is also written… that only the 4 Chosen Ones would be able to put the curse to rest, until one day, when it would rise again.

At the time, nobody knew who or what the Chosen Ones were, and not one soul was willing to risk their lives for Phellinia.

Just when all hope was lost, four elves stepped forward to accept the task. From that moment on, they were dubbed the Chosen Ones.

Exactly who were the four chosen ones, you ask?

They were the four members of royalty from allied Kingdoms. Two were from the Light Kingdom; and two from the Dark Kingdom.

Together they took on the task and searched the land for the fabled four treasures of Phellinia. It is said only the power of the treasures combined would put the curse to rest.

Many months passed, and at last the four chosen ones emerged, each holding a treasure of Phellinia – an element sphere.

Together they combined its magic and saved the realm.

Unexpectedly, in a burst of light, each element combined itself with its holder, and a great transformation took place.

Each member of royalty now possessed the power and spirit of the element they held – one of fire, water, leaf and earth.

Now, it is said the four be able to protect Phellinia every thousand years, as long as they were united as one and willed the realm to prosper.

However, jealousy occurred between the Kingdoms, due their newfound powers.

There was a terrible war... and the four chosen ones died; the element spheres once again scattered and lay hidden within Phellinia.

After the war, there was great hatred between the two Kingdoms, each blaming the other for the curse on their land.

But even then, The Light Kingdom contained pure hearts, and wanted only for Phellinia to prosper if they were to obtain the four treasures.

However, the Dark Kingdom was now hungry for power, and on acquiring the four treasures, would only will the realm to destruction and suffering.

But beyond all the enmity came another problem.

How would Phellinia find salvation without the chosen ones?

It was then that two elfin advisors from separate Kingdoms spoke their wisdom.

‘We are elves who believe in rebirth. We know that our chosen ones will soon be among us again!’ they said.

However, the two advisors knew that the reincarnation of they’re beloved chosen ones would not occur in Phellinia.

It would be in a different realm, a young planet whose inhabitants called...Earth.

It was decided then, that the four reincarnations from Earth would be summoned to Phellinia, two to the Light Kingdom and two to the Dark Kingdom.

Each pair would race to find all four treasures of Phellinia, obtain its power, and either save the realm, or make it suffer again for a thousand years.

Many issues arose at this proposal. But for the existence of Phellinia, these problems were quickly overlooked.

Even to this day, Phellinia and its people are holding on, waiting… waiting for their reincarnations from Earth to save them ... or destroy them.

And so, this is where our story begins, in the Light Kingdom of Phellinia, 4 years before the proposed curse was to appear yet again...
