5 de Mayo
Usually, I will write a nonsensical post that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject, or nothing!!!
Today, I have a brief rant on 5 de Mayo. Let me just say that I am ALL for diversity, "minority" rights, being proud of who you are, equality, and yes, FUN. But I am also very strongly against stupidity.
I dunno about where you live, but around here, 5 de Mayo is a huge celebration. People put Mexican flags on their cars, heads, babies, homes, whatever, and drive around cruising on this street called "Federal." Which is actually really close to my home. It's funny, because I dunno why they chose Feds; there's not crap on it. But it gets backed up the butt. By people cruising and drinking and driving.
That pisses me off. I don't care if you celebrate, as long as you don't ENDANGER people with your actions.
And, maybe a bigger problem I have with 5 de Mayo is that in Mexico, it really isn't a huge deal. It's like, maybe, Memorial day or something here. Mexican Independence day is on September 16. The only celebrating they do in Mexico is get the day off school/work, and have a small get together.
The only people I see celebrating 5 de Mayo around here are AMERICAN CITIZENS of Mexican descent, maybe. They're all waving flags of a country to which they don't belong, speaking its praises when they have never lived there. I'm all for pride, but this pissed me off yesterday:
Some girl wore an AMERICAN flag to school, and these girls started picking on her because of it.
Next year, I should get a Polish or German flag and wave it around. I'll say, "Well, I am of [that] descent! I have pride in who i am! I am not a citizen of that place, but I want to be! It's fantastic there!"
people would get pissed and say "you're an american, you never lived there."
but that's how it is with these people crazies out here. I see very few REAL Mexicans celebrating 5 de mayo all crazy-stupid. They know it's no huge thing. er, at least in Juarez, for sure.
Anyway i'm in a better mood, so i'm just irritated by it; not pissed.
Oh and earlier, I almost wrote "on less" instead of "unless." I looked at it for a while, then realized what was so wrong with it. LOL stupid Julie, typical of her.
ok im tired of writing. i gotta go frijole (lol) my dad into taking me to do community servicethank you!
