   I love the zoo!
I watched the Disney version of The Little Mermaid today; I haven't watched it in years. It's pretty cute, though. Sebastian and Max (the dog) are the best.

However, the "real" version of The Little Mermaid is, in my eyes, much more interesting. Basically, The Little Mermaid lives in the sea. She has 5 older sisters, and lives with her papa the Sea King, and grandma. When she turns 15, she'll be allowed to go to the surface and observe the humans and such.

Her sisters' tales of the surface enthrall her, so when she gets her chance, she sees a Prince and falls in love with him. She saves him after his ship is wrecked in a storm.

Though he never really wakes, he hears her enchanting voice singing as they wait on the beach near a temple. A girl from the temple finds the Prince and saves him.

The Little Mermaid returns to the sea, and is madly in love with the Prince. He, too, pines for the young girl who saved him. She asks her grandma if humans live forever if they don't drown, and her grandma replies, "No, they don't last as long as Merpeople. They die, though their immortal souls get to go to Heaven."

Merpeople live for 300 years, but when they die, they turn to sea foam and become nothing. The Little Mermaid deeply desires both the Prince and the Immortal Soul.

Finally, her desires drive her to visit the Sea Witch, who will fulfill her wishes. In exchange for legs, she takes The Little Mermaid's tounge. She needs a kiss from the Prince to gain an immortal soul -when the true love kiss happens, he gives part of his to her, and she has 3 days. If he won't kiss her, the dawn after he marries, The Little Mermaid will die.

Naturally, The Little Mermaid opts for the legs, which will cause her great pain to use. While the Prince loves her, he still loves the mysterious girl. Finally, he decides to marry The Little Mermaid, but before they wed, he is engaged to the neighboring kingdom's princess. Though he rejects it at first, when he finds out that the princess is really the girl from the temple, he does marry her.

Broken hearted, The Little Mermaid thinks she is going to die, miserable. However, her sisters exchanged their hair for a knife from the Sea Witch, and give it to their baby sister before dawn. With the knife The Little Mermaid must kill the Prince and will be able to live her life out naturally as a mermaid.

She loves the Prince too much, though, and cannot kill him, so she becomes sea foam. Instead of becoming nothing, though, she becomes an ethereal spirit. Other spirits tell her that because she desired so much an immortal soul, she will be able to earn one as a spirit. She has 300 years to earn her soul and go to Heaven.

heh. That's the story. I like it better.

call me what you will, but I like this song. In the original. Screw Ashley Tisdale. =P

I do like the English version kinda better, though...in some ways

Prince Eric is pretty gay, though, if you ask me.

I understand a lot of this. Regardless of the English bit. Cos I don't know what those words are @.@
Umi no soto ha subarashiithank you!
