“When You Are Old”
By: William Butler Yeats
In the poem “When You Are Old,” by William Butler Yeats, the poet asks the intended audience to cogitate upon the joyous and bittersweet moments of the past love. The word choice in “When You Are Old,” creates a contemplative mood, by asking the audience to “read and dream” about the “fled love.”
Ever piece of literature has a meaning. The poem, “When You Are Old,” conveys how many people can love “your moments of glad grace” but there will only be one person who “loves the pilgrim soul in you.” This means that no matter how many people there are in the world, everyone has one soul mate, that one person who will “love the sorrows of your changing face.”
The poem, “When You Are Old,” expresses how love can come and go and it should not be given up. The poet uses the phrase, “But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, and loved the sorrows of your changing face,” to express how one man loved this woman for who she was and not for what she did, and he continued to love her as they aged. Unfortunately, something happened to make the love they shared “pace upon mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowd of stars.” This means that the integrity of their love changed and now he is just a face in a crowd of people. Now, he wants her to “slowly read, and dream of the soft look your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep.” This means that he wants her to reflect upon the past and remember him, and the love they shared, which the poet stresses throughout the poem.
The poem “When You Are Old,” has a contemplative mood, because the poet wants the intended audience, the woman he loved, to reflect upon their “fled love,” when she is “old and grey and full of sleep.”
and here is the final of my obituary
Tucson, Arizona- Sara Holcomb, whose acting brought about many great movies, died on Wednesday, June 29. She was 92.
Sara died in her sleep and later police stated that, “Sara had been poisoned and there will be an investigation in to who killed her.”
The female actor and humanist starred in many movies including, Abandonment, High School Lovers, The Horror, and many others.
“The 5th child deserves just as much attention as the 1st,” said Sara at the showing of Abandonment.
Sara had five children with her high school boyfriend and husband, Brandon, of sixty-two years. “Mom always cared for every one and paid attention to everyone, even dad, when they need some help or attention,” said her eldest child Mantha.
“There is plenty of love and everyone will get their fair share no matter how many I have,” said Sara, after having little baby Brandon, her 4th child.
The entire family traveled a lot with Sara’s acting and Brandon’s professional baseball career, but they always took all their kids with them, no matter the distance.
“We’re a family and we are going to stay a family through it all,” said Sara while she got the kids ready to go to one of Brandon’s baseball games in Massachusetts.
Sara also donated a great deal of money to orphans to help them find homes, keep them off the streets, and supplied them with food.
Many hungry children survived with Sara’s great effort and her family will continue to help the children, including her retired husband, age 89.
“Our family will never break up, we’ll be together forever,” said her husband and five children.
