Dentisto II
Well I made my second dentist trip this morning and got my last cavity creep done, then a cleaning. I went sans-novacaine for this filling and I'm super glad that I did because I didn't feel any pain whatsoever. I wish i had done that with the last two.
The cleaning was another thing altogether. It started out ok, and the hygenist was chatting me up about chemistry even though its hard to respond much when he has his hands in your mouth. I had been three years out so I had a lot of hardened plaque deposits, and he scraped them all out like he was taking a coat of paint off. It didn't so much hurt except in a few spots, but he really went to town on me, my bottom front teeth still feel a bit tingly.
I watched House last night, which is a cool doctor type show on Fox, starring a really cranky eccentric doctor. Some kid had what they eventually and painstakingly found out to be Napthalene poisoning. They were talking about it and said "well napthalene is a gas..." and I was all nerded out and yelled, no way! its a solid, a white crystalline solid. Some jock is going to beat me up for that one.

macho taco
Just chilling at 12:15 am watching aqua teen. I didn't really do any Valentines stuff, me and my wife decided against it.
Egh, I just watched a Family Guy promotional where Stewie was sucking on Peter's man boob. he woke up and spit up a hair. It may be the mostdisgusting thing I've ever seen animated, even over southpark.
Anyway, I picked up the PS2 game katamari damacy for 20 bones. Its surprisingly fun to roll a ball around and pick up stuff. its especially gratifying when you start out tiny and grow big enough to roll over people who used to be able to squash you. Its got a lot of marble madness-y fun.
I've been further fooling around with my website, and put a MP3 sample of a very good band, the Red Telephone. Check it out and tell me what you think. I found them pretty randomly a long while back. I also have a sample of Children of Bodom.

Dr. Drill and Fill
I officially have half a mouth, after going to the dentist this morning. I will avail you with the terrible detail.
So I got there on the bus just in the nick of time, so pretty much took off my coat and hopped into the dentists chair. First off, when he was lowering me to the ground in the chair I nearly slid off headfirst, which would have been pretty funny. I was filling 2 cavity creeps which were pretty small, but I think the Novocaine injection hurt more than the drillings would have. Damn, its a little worsr than a "little pinch" as he put it. Anyway, so I'm not a wuss I assure you. I didn't feel any pain from the fillings, but midway through it some nasty metallic burning stuff made its way to the back of my throught, which I wasn't exactly in the position to complain about. Then before I knew it it was ok, you're done (no rinse) and I was out. Now I just have a retarded right side of my face. I wish I had more opportunities to fool around with it, like office hours so I could slurr my speech with my students or something. Oh, speaking of...one of my friends talked to one of my O-chem students in his office hour and when he asked the kid who his TA was the response:
Oh I don't know, some red bearded guy...Steven maybe?
Ha ha, its fucking week six and I know 99% of all their names the little bastards. Eh, I'm actually not upset about it and I didn't ask who it was so I didn't grade him unfairly or anything.
Anyway, back to el dentisto on wednesday for part 2.

meh
I havent had really too much to say lately. I've been kind of up and down, just focusing a little too much on how fucked up the world is lately (maybe just how much more I realize it). I think that in High school things like politics and world news seem really distant, but now I feel responsible for what goes on, and what our country does.
It all just seems like a bad joke now with the Iran thing. Why in the world we should be threatening them at a time like this. It just looks like nation building no matter what the administration says. Iran is an interesting country that we probably should mostly just leave alone. I think most of their population is 15 and under, so they could change dramatically within the next 20 years or so. They are already showing signs of unrest, especially at colleges where they are starting to protest a lot and demand elections etc.
Also I look at the party that I gave my vote to in November and they seem so worthless. All they can do is bitch about everything the president does, even if some of it has merit. His Social Security plan is pretty sketchy, but the Dems could really use an idea of their own out there if they are going to have leverage to complain.
The EPA as is currently stands is a joke, filled with industry friendly people who couldn't care less how much crap is in the air we breathe.
Its hard to be optimistic at this point.

I will save you with my Science
Inspired by Tony's McDonalds post, I thought I'd share with you some info.
So we all know that if you eat poorly, you can get hardened and clogged arteries. Its a leading killer in the USA next to driving I'm pretty sure.
We also know that eating fried food is not particularly good for you, because the oil is fat and a lot of fat isn't going to do wonders to your health.
So here's the thing; When you fry food in oil, the chemical composition of some of the oil (fat) will change (is oxidized). These oxidized fats have been proven to act directly to form deposits along the arterial wall and basically harden and clog your arteries. And no, patting the grease off your food isn't going to save you. So if you eat fried food, the best thing to do is use the oil once and throw it away so that the REALLY harmful fats don't build up. One time in the fryer isn't going to kill you. The thing is, in restaurants they use the fryer oil constantly and usually until its smoky and black and nasty. I can vouch for Burger King at least myself and the food service at RIT. The is probably thousands if not millions of times more of the harmful fats in fried food from restaurants.
In short, please avoid restaurant fried foods and you will be healthier.
On another note, I posted in some Vegetarian topic in Otaku Lounge and am proud to have been both fair and informative but then really disgusting in the end :)

Custom concern
If you haven't checked out me website, now's a good time to do so. I padded out the videogames section and started a music section with a short review of Children of Bodom, complete with a nice music sample. I also reviewed Metal Gear breifly for the NES.
The Super Bowl is over, and I watched 80% of it, flipping the channel when the commercials came on so that the man didn't win.

Pooper
Well its Super Bowl weekend, and even though I'm a really big footbal fan, I find that I don't really care about this game much. Its one thing that the teams that are playing I'm not terribly interested in, but really I'm put off by the whole spectacle of it.
The pregame stuff starts almost as early as the morning, even though there is nothing to talk about. You can't make good predictions, and its only football. At most there is only about 30 minutes worth of discussion that you could manage that they drag out into 4 hours.
Really thats not the worst of it. The Super Bowl isn't even about football fans. The tickets are impossibly expensive, and so few tickets even go to the fans in New England or Philly. The players family go, the coaches and assistants family, celebs and contest winners and overall rich people. The NFL doesn't want fans there, they want you to watch it, so they can book million dollar advertisements that aren't worth it. Face it, the Ads suck. For every clever one there are 50 annoying ads. Its just one big spectacle designed so that you sit there while they try and sell you shit. I've actually known people that tape the game and fast forward through the football to watch the ads. That, combined with Nickelback's dominance of the radio is surely sign of the coming apocalypse.

Spirituality
I have no spirituality whatsoever. Honestly I'm not sure how that happens except that my parents never took me to church. I think I was actually baptised catholic but am still probably going to hell in the catholic sense.
It would be kind of cool to be the follower of a higher power, but I think only if it were more like the movies. If you could channel spirits and see through walls and pick up cars or glow and grow wings or something, then it would be worth it. All we really have is going to boring churches and donating cash, praying and the occasional monk who can kicked kicked in the balls and not be phased.
So its my feeling that if religion wants to stay relevant, they need to step it up a notch and get some powers. If you beleive in the bible, theres a TON of cool stuff in it like angels of death and blood rivers and all sorts of crazy shit. All we have is polluted black rivers and serial killers.

Montag
Not too too much going on this weekend. I did my tax returns married filing jointly for the first time and we're getting back $1,600 if we didn't screw up too bad. This has essentially paid for my spankin new iBook G4 laptop that we bough this weekend. Its pretty nice as a replacement to the HP from 97 desktop that we had been using. It was pretty clunky and doesn't run too smoothly 50% of the time. I got a nice deal through the bookstore at UO, $899 with a free bag, memory upgrade and printer. I didn't really need the printer, but why not. Its set up for wireless internet which I have at school, and has a CD burner so I can start sending music samples to my homies now. I'm learning Dreamweaver so I can combine that with my HTML knowledge and put up a decent website on my school server, I just need some content. I'm going to try my best not to rip off too much from Tony :)
His site is in pretty good shape so we all need to pester him into posting more about top 100 bands and whatnot.
