rage....RAGE!!!
For lack of anything better to do, I thought I'd rage about things that really bother me today, maybe make it a continuing series of hate.

When I was walking back to th ebus stop after playing basketball yeasterday afternoon, I saw a girl with her friends playing frisbee. Perfectly normal for campus, but she was also talking on a cell phone at the time. What the hell! This campus is sick with cell phone goons. Somehow talking on the phone has become more important to them then the people next to them. I think its more than a little rude to talk on the phone while you're with friends unless its really necessary.

Recently I also saw a woman talking while driving, with one hand on teh cell phone and the other on a cigarette. She was all over the fucking road! How stupid can people become? People make calls from on the bus to say that they're on the bus and are 10 minutes from being home etc. "Oh honey, should I buy iceberg or romaine lettuce?" There must be some great underlying insecurity in these people that they need to be connected all the time. Are we so beaten down and depressed that you can't stand thirty minutes without talking to someone?

I wish someone would make a device where you could short out someones cell from 15 ft away and shock them. I would pay a lot of money for it and fuck with people all day with a huge smile on my face.

Wheww, rage is tiring.

My soy life
My day was pretty droll before I had my lunch just now and ate chocolate soy pudding. Its sounds gross, but its pretty comparable to the Jello brand stuff. Of course the important difference is that this kind has no gelatin in it, so I can eat it!

I watched another episode of Wonderfalls last night and I can't not recommend people check out the DVD set. Great characters and its mad funny. Tony talked about it a while ago, but basically its about a girl that happens to have inanimate objects talking to her and telling her to do stuff. Where I'm at in the show her brother is starting to figure out that she's talking to stuff, and he is starting to seem crazier. Its pretty much impossible for me to describe it well, but I give it my highest recommendations, especially in light of the total crapfest TV is right now. The only show I really look forward to watching now is Justice League Unlimited. Another Transformers show began airing a little while ago, and its just as bad as the last one. They really need to get that show out of the hands of the Japanese, because it sucks so utterly and completely. The last american show was Beast Wars/Machines and it ended in 2000 or so. 5 years of complete crap shows and they wonder why their toy sales are declining.

Weekend fun super happy
Usually I had been sitting on my ass a lot on weekends and doing very little. This weekend was a bit different from that, and I actually did a whole bunch of things. I got the Nester emulator running on the PSP, and its completely awesome. I've been playing Zelda, Megaman 2, and Dragon Warrior 2. DW2 I have never actually played so its pretty fun. The beginning is a little more forgiving than DW1 and you don't have to spend a lot of time killing slimes with a bamboo pole or anything. It was actually really easy to set up on the PSP, basically the program saves to the memory stick. I had a bunch of NES ROM's but never really use them on the computer because I didn't have a controller.

Friday me and Rachael cleaned up our 2nd bedroom and are making it livable, so we can have people visit and stay over. I also organized my freakishly massive action figure collection into a big plastic set of drawers. Started watching disc 2 of Wonderfalls from Netflix also and it was really funny. Too bad nobody knew of the show's existence while it was on...

Sunday we went to a bar, which is not really my scene (being that I don't drink, and neither does Rachael). We wanted to go though, every Sunday this small bar does a Burlesque show and thought it might be interesting. I had some idea what to expect thanks to the Simpsons episode where Bart breaks a window and ends up working at a Burlesque, but I was still a little suprised at how dirty it was. Twas a lot of dancing and stripping, and a lot of boobies. Well, it was pretty much all boobies. They did little skits set to different songs and took off clothes. I think it was a lot of strippers working there, but not entirely. There were also some exhibitionistic (word?) lesbians who got up on stage for audience participation stuff who barely needed an excluse to get naked.

We took off when the frat guy percentage got too big, and ended up not getting home til 1:30 (oops). Seriously there were like 15 of the same dude there. 6'0'' tan, baseball cap, polo shirt, gelled hair that sticks up in the front, gold chain, jeans. I guess they stuck around for the summer in greater numbers than I expected. Anyway, it was good pure wholesome fun which makes me feel lucky that my wife happens to not mind me checking out foreign boobies.

When I'm Dead, I'll Rest
Its sad that Say Anything has cancelled most of their headlining tour, I was really looking forward to seeing them again. There were a lot of songs that I hadn't heard live at all with them as opening acts. Not to mention that Max is quite cool and approachable, so its fun to chat with him a little bit at the shows. The best and only rumor was that he had an anxiety or panic attack in TX, and was hospitalized. Might be BS, but hopefully he's alright. I guess with the lyrics to Admit it! its not that big of a suprise, but it sucks and hopefully he'll be happy and back in action soon.

That leaves this summers worthwhile concerts a little more dry than they were in the first place. Ted Leo is still playing Portland, which is excellent since they are my favorite new band (for me) since SA. I did just find out that the Queers are playing in my town, which should be fun. Beck is super-expensive and not worth the money, NIN = CRAP, new White Stipes album is terrible so I'll skip that one. Hopefully something will spring up soon.

CHem
Here's some sage advice for anyone, never listen to Radiohead first thing in the morning; it can make you full of suicidal feelings. I've sort of been in a funk lately that is fairly irrational and fairly silly when it comes down to it. I've got a doctors appointment tomorrow that should help me feel better. I'm not going to describe any more detail than that, but the word "rash" is involved.

Ha ha ha, now that no-one will ever go to this site again...

I've got some happy chemistry news that I'm going to be published (my research) in a Chemistry Journal as my work has been accepted. I think that I literally had revised that paper (4 pages typed) 50 times and am really sick of it. When it comes online I'll throw up a link and see if anyone can decipher it.

I finally caught Sin City this weekend at the cheap theatre, and it was cool. Not really that amazing, but it loses a little when you've read the comics and know how all the stories play out. The style was cool, what I wished Hellboy had looked more like. I imagine its about as close as its ever going to get for a comic book movie to look like a comic book. I did like how they broke up the "That Yellow Bastard" story into two parts at the beginning and the end. It fit well. The other movie I watched this weekend was 13 going on 30 (for some reason). It was predictably terrible, but I didn't mind it so much. I probably could have wrote a better Big ripoff myself.

XXX
I'm getting excited about the prospect of playing NES games on the PSP (see Group Sounds). I have a pretty big stack of NES games, but its hard to connect my NES to the TV because when I do it hurts the cable signal and makes it fuzzy. I haven't been able to come up with a good solution to the problem yet, so I have to unplug the cable from the back of the TV and plug in the NES with the coax cables. It makes it just annoying enough that I never really do it. I know if I use the NES on my bedroom TV I'll never play it :(

So the Nester/PSP hack sounds pretty cool, especially with the limited current game library.

There are a ton of good sounding PS2 games on the horizon though. The FPS Black which has been in production sounds good, and if its as cool as they make it sound it should be a lot of fun. They focused on making the gun experience fun and realistic by making everything destructible. You can knock statues over onto enemies and bring down buildings etc. Sounds like it brings the background to the foreground and makes use of the environment a lot. Theres another game on the horizon that I forget the name of, but its a choose your own adventure style mystery. An every choice you make effects how the game plays out type of thing. There was a big preview of it in PSM magazine last month. I'll try and figure out the name of it later.

haze
The last few days since I've gotten back have been a bit of a drowsy haze. I'm starting to get my sleeping patterns back together, but this long weekend should be extra nice. Monday is national explosion day, so I'm hoping to get some good rockets and bombs to celebrate it.

Problem is that currently we're driving a rental car, as out wheels started stalling in 2nd gear the day we got back from Buffalo. We can't take the rental out of state, and the only stuff you can buy in your home state is always kiddie crap. Funny how that works.

NES-orama
I went home to NY this past week and got back in yesterday. I'm not really feeling like elaborating too much about it now, but the day we left I ran across a bunch of great stuff in the closet. Not only did I bring back some old NES games, I found some cool old stuff. Mixed in with a few ancient Nintendo Power magazines I found an original Dragon warrior world map, and a strategy guide for DW with cool concept art inside. I also have the Super NES players guide and strategy guides for SMB2 and 3. I've found a stack of old NES booklets too with a perfect condition Zelda booklet which also has cool art in it, like color art for the monsters and little link action pictures. I really need to hit up a scanner and get some of these cool pictures online.
