Wobble
Hmm, not too much super thoughtful or exciting stuff from me today. Pretty much a traditional middle of the week period filled with slacking and daydreaming about spending time outside in the great weather I have out here. I bought Devil May Cry 3 yesterday on a whim and played a little of that last night. Basically it kicked my ass, I could barely beat the first boss and after dying a few times it let me play on easy and die some more.
Its actually really cool, except that its so tough, but I don't mind the challenge. It is a real button masher since you fight usually at least 4 or 5 enemies at once. My forearm was tight while I was playing it because I press the buttons too hard.

go
The bus drivers in town are on strike starting yesterday, so my primary means of school transportation are gone. It sucks because I'm about 5 miles away from UO on top of a big hill. Its an easy bike ride down, but to goback up I have to be in pretty good shape. Also its poorly lit as streets go. Basically now my wife takes me to school when she goes to work, and now I'm going to be in at seven every morning. Today I took a nap on the couch in our computer room at school for I guess an hour and a half. There's something funny about sleeping at school.
It sounds stupid but I've been thinking about names recently. I myself don't feel a sense of ownership with my name. It feels more like a label, like a way to know what mail is mine. I'm not really sure if anyone feels different. I like my name ok (Andy or Andrew), but its not really anything.
One quirk about me that is related is that I very rarely say anyones name when I talk to them. You can easily address people without saying their name with "Hey" and just talking at people or making eye contact. Its kinda strange and I don't know why I do it except that its very non-confrontational. I imagine the two things are related.
What do you think?

grade me!!!
I just had an annual review of my progress towards my PhD and it went pretty well. A few things I didn't answer too well but they were pleased with my progress. Not many of us in the program are very confident so any praise is really releiving.
So, also went up to the Portland comic book show which featured Lorenzo Llamas and a Playboy Playmate from a few years ago. It wasn't very productive since nobody had the Invincible trades but I got a stack of Blade of the Immortal comics for 50 cents each I am going to use the covers for a wall decoration. I picked up some old Trasformers too for good measure (Ratchet). I also (my wife started) started reading the Intimates, which is about a school for teen superheroes. It sounds cliche but is really good. It has little peices of information at the bottom of every page which is fun to read/clever.

I think that having been in college for like seven years is starting to take its toll on me. I'm always burnt out, just at different levels depending on the day. Kids, quit school it won't do you any good.
Man I fucking hate these noisy ads!!!

whoop
Well so this past weekend I was the sole driver for a <300 mile each way trip to Washington for a chemistry conference. We had to rent a state car from the school and I was the only one who was certified to drive it. It wasn't too bad the way up there though except that the tape deck adapter wasn't working so I had to listen to the radio the whole way up.
Basically each night was filled with tons of drunken Canadians. Not as polite as they stereotype themselves to be. Right after I went to bed on friday night I got to listen to them stumble in and I swear to Satan that one of them said "I'm going to wake you up in the morning slapping my dick on your face." Not to mention that they also smelled real nasty as they sweated out the alcohol and our 8-man cabin was pretty funky the next morning.
It wasn't so bad, we got to go to Mt. Rainier on Saturday and throw snowballs at unsuspecting people. We left Sunday morning and the drive was pretty shitty except for the talk radio (NPR) which was pretty good. All three of the backseaters slept most of the way though. Bastards. At least they were hot since the AC didn't reach to the back seats.
Anyway, I'm still trying to progress slowly on the personal site, added a Morphine song to the music section and now have a list of all of my Gamecube games to go along side the NES and PS2.

post
I made a post in 5under and over-rated bands in the Music forum that I'm particularly proud of, though I may have trashed some bands people like. Please check it out and yell at me if called for :)

Thanks, snacks for everyone if you were here
Thanks for peeking at my site, I appreciate comments as I try to get it up to par.
So...Is it just me or are long sleeved shirts comforting. I like to pull them down so that only the tips of my fingers are poking out. It makes me feel at ease. I don't really know why, but possibly it has something to do with when we were babies? It seems like a lot of baby clothes are long sleeve. Who knows. I used to poke thumb holes in my long sleeves, but its not always as comfortable.
I mention sleeves because I'm wearing my PIG long sleeve shirt. If you don't know PIG is Raymond Watts' band; he was a big contributor to KMFDM for the middle-era albums. I always though PIG was a little better than KMFDM, which can be pretty hot and cold on their albums. I used to be big into industrial music (Chemlab, Hate Dept, KMFDM etc.) and have been breaking out a lot of my old albums lately. It reminds me of being angry and in high school. Actually I had a girlfriend through most of high school so I wasn't too angry. When I wa though I could just head home and blast PIG or something loud like old Nixons or deftones and it was good medicine. My mom hated it though.

postage
Hmm, haven't really kept up well with posting lately, but it has seemed a little dead within my friend group here besides Anatema (way to keep it up).
Somehow or another I got suckered into being the responsible one for this conference in Washington this weekend. I've got to rent a state car and pack a bunch of sick people in it, drive them five hours to Pack Forest in the boondocks of Washington state. It sucks because I was wanting to go figuring that I had little to do but sit back and get driven out there, watch some Biochem talks and play Gameboy. Not I have to DO all this stuff...
What's the first thing you ask when something goes wrong? Who is responsible? Reason enough to never be responsible.
I've fooled around yet again with my website, and made the front page a little more interesting. There still isn't much content besides pictures and the videogames section, but its a lot of fun to fool around with. Check it out if you get the chance.

Pooooop
People get weird when they have kids. All of a sudden they talk about nothing but their kids, and well its not really fun. Especially if you are married and its bad enough when people bug you about when YOU want to have kids. I think that they just want to drag you down on the sinking ship with them.
So I went to Portland this weekend because Rachaels mom was there "visiting" (Rachaels brother). I use quotes because basically she flew out 3000 miles for $400 so that her son and his wife could go skiing. Thats pretty lame considering they don't see each other too often. So we drove up there to help her mom out and keep her company.
For me this pretty much meant ultimate boredom, but hey, you make sacrifices sometimes.
The thing is, her brother was so cool, teaching a KungFu school and would go to concerts with us. Now he's stuck hanging out with all these parents who bring their 3 kids over randomly with some kidstuff donations and blab on endlessly about how they raise their kids (TV limits). That scene frightens me. I want to go to foreign countries and concerts at 1am and not clean shit off of a baby's ass.
Don't have kids early, have fun!

whining and crying
I've gotten up around seven in the morning every day this week, which isn't really something that I'm good at. My biggest problem is self-inflicted in that I've also stayed up every night so far to watch Inuyasha which starts at 12:30am. Essentially I have an average of 5-6hrs of sleep a night. Some people can handle thet, but I'm too old and really could use to sleep in til about noon one of these nights.
I have some question for anyone who chooses to answer, if you don't mind.
What MyOtaku site do you think you check most often (besides your own)?
Favorite cartoon?
Do you find it harder to like music after its become commercially successful?
Thank you.
