Pretty fucking cool
So in chronological order, the Oslo show comes first. I have no idea why they aren't very well known, but I suspect that they will get really popular sometime. Their album is just really damn good, and a lot better than most of the new music I have been getting lately.
So the show is in some crap bar downtown, and right off the forst thing to be noticed was this chick with a punk, mohawk/mullety hairdo. Basicaly she had on a thong and fishnets, so her ass was out there for the world. She ended up being the singer for Go Like Hell, a pretty good band from Seattle. They might be worth looking into later. The second band was this godawful emo/indie-ish crap. The singer was gangly and had flock of seagulls hair, and couldn't sing for the life of him. The band didn't help much either. Its bad if your drummer is your best and most dynamic musician.
Oslo came on after way too long, and up til then it was pretty clear that we were the only people n the bar that came to see them. The other bands watched, and they had some tag along friends, but it was pretty much just me and Rachael. After the first song the floor cleared besides some swaggering drunk guy. Sad thing is, they were great. What a waste that it was poorly promoted (I only saw a flyer by chance, they weren't listed on Pollstar even). They have at least a song sample on www.osloband.com, check it out as a personal favor to me. "All Terrain" is my favorite song.
Minibosses were last night and that was a weird scene too. It was in an arcade with a bar, filled with old school games like Joust, Galaxian (which I'm the #3 top score in now), Donkey Kong, Burger Time, etc. The place filled with the belly sporting, smelly D&D type nerds pretty fast. It was pretty funky in there actually. The Minibosses were pretty cool to see live. The rock versions of Castlevania and Contra etc were really cool live especially. They played some weirder stuff I hadn't heard from them too, like the underwater theme in Super Mario and Kid Icarus. It was worth seeing, but not something I'd go back for unless it was in town. I was proud of my galaxian score though.
