Outer Heaven
Advance Wars for DS is addicting. For the most part its just like every other strategy battle game, but this game as it down to perfection. The whole Dual strike thing broken down to gameplay means that you can change commanding officers at the end of the turn. Since each officer has different abilities you can use it to your advantage. As an example, one CO can buy units (tanks, planes, bombs) cheaper than anyone but stinks in combat. It then makes sense to use him to buy, then switch out. Also killing enemies and taking damage builds a power meter so you can use special abilities. If you have both CO's built up, you can take a double turn. Both CO's get to act, and use their abilities. It pretty easily turns the tide of battle.

There is a fair bit of variety in teh campaign (story mode). There are land sea and air based units and battles. You can have dual front battles, where you basically play two games at once. I've been having a good time with it. The touch screen thing is pretty convenient for this type of game, though I wish it were bigger. Every once in a while its tough to tap exactly the right spot. Also, I haven't really figured out a comfortable way to hold the DS when using just the stylus. I end up holding the whole thing with my left hand and get a slight sore wrist.

On the real life front, Thursday I get to go see Ted Leo and the Pharmacists in Portland. It'll make for a rough Friday morning for me and Rachael, but will be well worth it. I think this is going to be a much better show than the last few I had been to. I know the band better, its a nice venue, there should be a better crowd. I'm excited. We might have to tone it down a bit though, it takes about $20 worth of gas to get there and back with our Civic, so I have to factor that in with the ticket costs.
