trojan! @-@
eek.my computer had a trojan..but its all better now.
I've been watching wedding peach..its the weirdest anime I've ever seen. But its one of the few shoujo anime's i've seen that had useful male characters. I'm thinking about writing a 'sailor moon vs wedding peach' editorial to submit to this site.
a few days ago, Ane-chan and I went to the book store. There was a reading going on of some children's book..its was really cute, there were all these kids their pajamas. But..they did this little dance, and there was this little song that went with it that went "Jama to the left, Jama to the right, PJ's!" and..today at work, I caught myself singing it. And dancing. -.-

Konichiwa mina-san!
o genki?
My japanese is slowly improving..I can have a basic conversation now..just like "Hi, how are you, what do you wanna do" kinda stuff, but I'm pretty proud of it. its not very useful...If I ever went to japan I'd need to know things like "where am I?" and "can I eat this?" and "Is it okay if I sleep in this corner?" and "do you mind if I pee on this plant?" Useful stuff, you know?
By the way, if you're looking for good books on the 'getting by' kind of japanese, I'd suggest "Making Out In Japanese". It has a lot of phrases for different topics, ranging from asking for directions to asking someone if they have a condom.
A while ago, I was talking to a teacher at my school about starting an an anime club. He was in the marines for a while, and was stationed in Japan {I'm not sure what part}, and when he got out of the navy he taught English to japanese students. He said that there's a really high demand for native-speaking English teachers...so, if anyone wants to make a career out of being an otaku thats probably your best bet. Certainly not for me, though..I'd hate to be a teacher. I don't wanna spend a second longer in school than I have to.
Thats all for now..
Je ne!

Neopets + Cosplay
so...Its been a few days since my last post. I've been on neopets.com, which is this website where you can own your own virtual pet. Its really fun. You can open your own shop and make a ton of neopoints [the currency on neopets] by buying and selling stuff, trading stock, and playing bizzare games. There are all these contests, and you can change the way your pet looks so its a plushie or its on fire or stuff like that. If you're interested in checking it out, go look up my account. My screenname there is vlad_teh_undead.
Oh, I've finally got pictures of my cosplay costume. I'm so proud of it! Actually, I'm proud of Ane-chan for basically making it. I helped a little....^-^; She has one that matches, but with a longer skirt..We look so cute together. As soon as I'm done blurring my face out of the pictures, I'll post them here.

Sailor Moon Episode 200
Today, I saw the last few episodes of Sailor Moon. I really liked the Stars Season and I'm still sad to see it go. Especially Seiya..I really liked him. My favorite thing about the end of the series was when Uranus and Neptune put on Galaxia's bracelettes and become her 'minions'. I'm still unsure as to weather or not they actually betrayed Sailor Moon. But, when I saw them do it I thought 'thats exactly what I would have done'. I also really liked how sweet and romantic it was when Uranus and Neptune died.
Some stuff wasn't as good in the anime as in the manga. For instance, the whole thing with Galexia reawakening Nehelania. At some point Galexia says that she awoke nehalania so that Hotaru's powers would return to her..Which means she knew Hotaru had a star seed. So why didnt she just go after it? Did it need to ferment or something? All in all, the manga's ending seemed to wrap up much neater.
I've always been a huge Sailor Moon fan, as is obvious from what I post on this site. Zoicite and Fish-Eye were my favorite characters. They seemed like real people to me. Seeing the last episode is like watching a close friend move away. You know they'll still be within reach, and you can still visit them, but its just not the same...

Something Worse Than Wapanese
Yesterday, I came across this. Its this guy's LJ rant about how he is otakukin, and everyone needs to respect that. Otakukin? Excuse me? Is someone starting a religion based on an anime?

For it to make sense, you need to be familiar with Otherkin. An otherkin is someone who believes that they are an animal, fairy, elf, ect. on the inside. that they have the soul of that creature. To a lot of people, otherkin beliefs sound stupid. Otherkin beliefs fit, to an extent, with pagan beliefs if reincarnation and other worlds. The idea behind otherkin is that the creature you identify with does exist in some other realm. For instance, there are many pagans who believe that fairies, vampires, unicorns, and dragons exist on the astral realm. The astral realm is thought of as the realm of the unconcious, sort of like where dreams come from, the realm spirits and angels exist in. The animal otherkins are more believable, and is based on the idea of reincarnation. Therians [animal otherkins] believe that they have the soul of a particular animal. There are a wealth of theories on how an animal soul ends up in a human body, such as the animal's soul getting accidently shoved into a human body at the last second, or the animal soul not having its memory erased when it was reincarnated as a human.
While you may not agree with these beliefs, they're pretty harmless. They stretch things a little, granted, but they at least have launching points in established beliefs. And, all the things otherkin idnetify as have some basis in mythologies, folklore, or zoology. Fairies were once held to be completely real, as were dragons and unicorns. These are outdated beliefs, certainly, but they were, at some point, widely held beliefs.

Then, there are the otakukin. Whats an otakukin, you ask? They are people who believe they have the same spiritual connections that an otherkin has to a mythical creature, except with an anime charater. As in, "I was Inuyasha in my past life. They made the anime about me." yeah. Just like that.
This is all based on the idea that fictional people have souls. I think that, if you're going to argue that something has a soul, it has to have an idependent conciousness. that means it needs to be able to think and make desicions for itself. So, it can be argued that animals and humans have souls, that angels and demons [or whatever names you choose for non-physical entities] have souls, and [maybe] that plants have souls.
But, anime and video game characters are only as real as their animators and voice actors make them. The character can have a 'personality' that would be expressed in the way it is drawn, and how the actor voices it, but once the animators and actors are done, the character is just a bunch of lines on paper or polygons on a screen. Its almost difficult to tear this idea down without saying that this is just insane. But it is-lots of otherkin claim to be otherkin because they want attention, or because its a coping mechanism. I'm not saying all of them do it, because that isn't true, but there are many people who do that. But at least otherkins have the common sense to choose a creature with a historical or zoological basis! But what events lead someone to think that they're really Sailor Moon, or any other anime character?
Otakukin are people who cannot tell reality from fiction. They simply do not realize that the character they think the are never existed and will never exist. It is fake. there is no semblence of proof whatsoever. Nothing.
As mentioned before, someone would probably become otakukin as a way to cope. I can actually use personal experience here. I was seven or eight when my parents got divorced, and it was pretty devestating and scary. Around this time, I was a big Sonic fan. I loved playing the old sega games and reading the comic books. I even had a Sonic halloween costume. When the divorce was finalized, mom and i moved to a new town where a lot of the other kids made fun of me. So, I started pretending I was Sonic. Sonic spent most of his time saving the world. In the games, Dr. Eggman was always threatening everything Sonic cared about, and in the comic books Sonics friends were always getting kidnapped and turned into robots. It made my problems seem smaller. After all, both my parents were alive. Nobody I cared about had been turned into a robot. No one was trying to take over my world. Really, I was on the right track to becoming an otakukin. Only I grew out of it. And...When you are seven or eight years old, its okay to act like that. Kids that age dont have the coping skills older children do. Otakukin, however, are not children. Most of them are adults. Whats their excuse?
I'm still trying to fathom this, so there will be more ranting soon. I'm just amazed that there are people out there who seriously think they're final fantasy characters...

Manga
Okay, so, I've finally got an idea for my manga. I've been wanting to create a shoujo manga that would allow me to draw lots of cool japanese things-bentos, school uniforms, shinto shrines, cherry trees, dragons ect.

So, this is my story:

Haruka Ryucha [Which translate as Far Away Tea Dragon] has been sent to live with her grandparents, who own a shinto shrine. She becomes a miko there, but all she really does is sell charms and clean up after visitors. She also conducts tea ceremonies, but I'm not sure how shinto that is.

Kuroryu Sukabara [Black Cherry Tree Dragon] has also been sent to live in the shrine, training under Haruka's grandfather to one day own the temple. Because Kuroryu's parents want so badly to own the land the shrine is on, they have disguised Kuroryu as a boy [because only males can own a shrine].

Someone comes to the shrine for an exorcism, and Kuroryu is attacked by the evil spirit. Haruka saves 'him', and Kuroryu begins to develop a crush on her.

so, yeah. thats the basic idea...Wonder if its any good..

w00t
today, my friend broke up with me. And I couldn't be happier. Why? Because this friend is a parasite of sorts; someone who leeches off of people for anything they can get-mangas [she has my 11 volumes of Gravitation], CDs [she has my sailor moon soundtracks], clothes, money, but mostly attention. And attention at any lengths-generally this means acting like we all hate her, crying at the slightest comment [as in "hey..is your shirt on backwards?" "YOU HATE ME!"]. Today, me and said friend got in an argument. It was a bit like so...
Her: Do you like my new drawing?
Me: Its cute
Her: You hate it, don't you?
Me: No. its just that, if I point out anything were you could improve, you would eat my face off. You don't take contructive criticism. You don't even take polite comments, you just want people to fake orgasms over your drawings.
Her: Fine, then go ahead and criticize me.
Me: Okay...You have eyebrow dandruff, [some other things to the effect of 'you're just not someone fun to hang out with']
Her: I'm sick of being treated like a doormat.
Me: Then do something about it.
Her: Fine! You're not my friend anymore.
Me: Congratulations! You're one step closer to actual asseritiveness.
So, looking back, maybe I was a little harsh. But..FOUR YEARS OF BEING HER MOTHER! FOUR FREAKING YEARS!
When i got home, I did a happy little dance around my bedroom. I feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
