Chapter 12: Who Would Have Thought I'd Be SAVING the School?

"Well, let's just see what the distinguished competition has for their headline this morning..."
Someone held up a newspaper called the Western Globe. Its front page title was: RED AND BLACK WONDER WOWS CITY!
"Huh. And let's see, what did the journal run this morning?"
The same person held up another paper, called the Western Journal.
Its headline was: A SAIYA-BOY AMONG US.
"And... What, pray tell, did the Daily Brookings decide to run this morning? Some fat cat's house catches on fire."
The very same person held up a newspaper called the: Daily Brookings. Its headline read: BRIEFS BURNING.
"It's a crap story. A crap story and we didn't even have any decent art to go with it. So, my question to you is... What is our front page news today?" the person said resting his fist down on the table.
He was the very West Cityish man. He had sleeked back brown hair, with it graying on the sides. He also had a mustache and was smoking a cigar. He wore a lime, button down shirt, an yellow tie, and brown khakis, with his cellphone/walkie-talkie attached to his belt.
The man sitting next to him, was Fred. Not the Fred from school though. He was a average sized black man with gray hair. He was about middle-aged, and had good eyesight. He wore a lime, plad button-down shirt, with a yellow, and black striped tie. He wore black khaki's instead of brown, and didn't have a cellphone with him.
There was another man there too. He had long, sleeked back redish-browish hair. He wore glasses, mostly just for reading, and had a same colored goatee. He wore a black suit, and shirt, along with his khakis. He was jotting notes down with a pen, onto a notebook. His name was Jay.
There were several other people in the room as well, but no one cares about them.
"There's a guy... There's a guy out there dressing up in his underwear, running around town calling himself a Saiya-boy! That is fantastic! That is what sells newspapers. I want to know his name. I want to know his birth sign. I want to know if the stories of his 'flights' are true. He can fly? Does he use some sort of magic? Did he rocket to Earth from some doomed planet somewhere? I want to know if he actually has some kind of super power or if he's just pulling the wool over everyone's shillelaghs. I want to find out if this idiot is the same guy as that wrestler. Jay, I want you to go to the stadium and I want you to do a follow-up on that robbery story," the first man ordered.
"What?" Jay asked disbelievingly.
"I heard they're accusing this Saiya-boy of being involved. I want to know if it's bull or he was involved with the robbery. And if so, why the same guy is going around makin'like a boy scourt in his jammies?" the man said.
"But Strobe, I'm working on..."
"Zarbon can wait to have his big fat butt handed to him by you another day, Jay. If you haven't dug anything up on the Murkock case by now, you probably aren't going to," Strobe said cutting Jay off.
"But..."
"Get your name on a headline 'Star Reporter,' that's what I pay you for. I want to know everything there is to know about Saiya-boy. I'm telling you, I smell it! This is our new O.J. Hero or villian. Con artist or crook. People won't... They won't be able to get enough of him one way or another. In fact, right this second, I bet that creepy schvatz is up to something that'll be our headline tomorrow," Strobe declared.

"I SAID: WHO- WHO- WHO! I DID! I DID IT! I DID IT!"
Ryu was prancing around in a blue t-shirt and his underwear in the basement. He summoned a blue glowing orb. It glowed brightly. He could barely see his fingers. He dropped it onto a frying pan. POP! Ryu now knew how to use ki balls!
It was incredible! He had been working all day, trying to figure out how to use one. He actually didn't know what was going to happen. He just felt this energy trapped inside of him. Like it was struggling to break free. He would sit in his little wooden chair for hours, concentrating, trying to let out his energy. And then, one time today when he got frustrated, he flew something against the wall, but he didn't have anything in his hand.
He was so happy. He could fly, he had superstrength, he was already really smart, and now he could do this.
"Ryu, are you still down there, sweety?" Videl called.
"Doin' my homework," Ryu called back.
"Ryu, got to bed. You'll be a wreck at school..."
"Oh please, Videl... I promise, I'll be fine."

"SSNNORRE..."
Ryu had fallen asleep in class.
"SON!" Ms. Duffin shrieked.
"NNYAA!" Ryu screamed, snapping his desk in half, causing a resounding CRACK!
"Son I swear to God..."
"Sorry," Ryu replied immeadietly.
Everyone in the classroom was either smiling or laughing. Even Brieanna and Charles were holding laughs in.
"That's two desks you've demolished in a week..."
"Yeah, uh... How 'bout that?" Ryu asked nervously.
"Listen, you're not so scary smart that you can just sleep during class, mister. There's..."
"No! I... I... I was thinking about what you were saying and I... I sort of got..."
"I saw what you were doing. I see that one more time and I'm going to have a talk with the coach about..."
"You don't have to do that. I quit the team this morning, so you don't have to..."
"What?!" Charles exclaimed.
"Well, just try not to break anything on your way to the next class," Ms. Duffin finished.

"You quit the team?" Brieanna asked.
"I quit the team," Ryu repeated.
"Good for you," Brieanna smiled.
"I thought..."
"It wasn't you," Brieanna said cutting Ryu off.
"Son, what was that?" someone's voice called ahead of them.
Charles and Fred both walked up to Ryu.
"I quit the team," Ryu answered.
"Why?" Charles asked.
"'Cause I did," Ryu answered.
"But..."
"Told you! I told you he was a freakin' worm!" Fred exclaimed.
"Listen. It's nothing personal and nothing agaisnt the team. It's just, it wasn't me," Ryu explained.
"It wasn't you? What kind of crap is this?" Charles exclaimed.
"I'm telling you, it wasn't me. Listen, I've had some stuff. My Grandpa..."
"Your Grandpa croaks so you can't play ball?" Charles shouted.
"Charles don't!" Brieanna exclaimed.
"Well, that's just... That's just great! Thanks for the support... Pal!" Ryu exclaimed.
Brieanna heard footsteps from down the hall, and looked back.
"...Ategev?"
Everyone turned to see Ategev walking down the hall towards them. He looked like the living dead. His hair was messy, his clothes looked kind of shabby, he had a sad depressing look on his face, and the most distinguishing feature of all was his eyes. They weren't there normal color. They were a stone hard, gray color, and seemed glazed. It gave the four of them chills.
"Ategev? Are you okay? I tried to call you but no one knew where you were," Ryu explained.
"Why were you trying to do that?" Ategev asked.
His voice was, slow, deep, and monotone.
"What?" Ryu asked.
What was wrong with Ategev today?
"Oh Ategev, I'm so sorry about your parents," Brieanna said.
"Are you?" Ategev asked skeptically.
"What do you mean? We were worried," Ryu explained.
"Why? I'm not dead," Ategev asked seemingly oblivious to the past few day's events.
"No, but, I know... I know what this is like. I..."
"Do you?" Ategev asked cold-heartedly.
"Yes, I... ...do you guys feel that?" Ryu asked swiveling his head around.
He was getting that funny feeling again. That feeling of oncoming power. But this one was much stronger. It was almost overwhelming. Ryu's eyes widened, and he jumped as if it were an automatic reflex.
BOOM! Ryu just barely missed the shockwave. Fred fell sideways, crying out in pain because of his arm. Brieanna fell sideways too, but caught herself. Ategev fell face forward, totally off guard, almost shrieking in fear. Charles fell backwards, landing hard on his butt. There seemed to be a light coming from one end of the hallway. Already people started getting up, and looking to see what it was.
"Yo! What's up wit' that?" Charles asked expecting an answer.
"Are you okay?" Ryu asked Brieanna crouching down.
Brieanna was on all fours.
"Oh my God!" she exclaimed.
BOOM! A few people went flying this time.
"Everyone out! Everybody! Run!"
"What the fuck is it?"
Teachers started coming out of classrooms, and students were running rapidly, for the exits. There was smoke now coming from both ends of the hallway.
"I know what this is..." Ategev muttered, scrambling to get up.
"What?" Ryu asked.
Water started pouring from the cieling.
"Dude we are so out of here," Charles said grabbing Ategev and putting him under his arm, while pushing Brieanna forward at the same time. Fred just stood there in panic wondering what to do.
Eventually, everyone made it out side, with the last two or three classes running outside. Fire could be seen through the doors, and smoke was coming out of the roof of the building.
"He's come for me... He's come for me..."
Ategev had been saying that in a scared, kind of, hpynotized gaze for a while now. Charles, Ategev, Fred, and Brieanna were all out in the parking lot, as were a lot of students and teachers.
"Who's come for you, Ategev?" Fred asked putting a hand on Ategev's shoulder.
Fred had been trying to get through to Ategev for a while now, but was not doing very well.
"Oh no. Where's Ryu?" Brieanna asked, just now noticing Ryu wasn't with them.
FRABOOM! The wall of the courtyard and a few of the windows shattered.
"Somebody help me! He's here!" Ategev screamed tears running down his now, very wide eyes.
"Ategev?! Who?!" Fred shouted.
"HEADS UP! Big time super hero comin' through!"
Ryu jetted right over everyone in the parking lot. Charles, Fred, Ategev, and Brieanna watched him soar towards a window on the second floor. This time, Ryu had his armor on. Just like he envisioned. I was a red chest armor. The same shade of red as his helmet and cape.
"Dude! Seriously, if he blew up our school... ...he is totally my hero," Charles said slowly.
"Whoa..." Fred said in awe.
(Man, I'm going to have to work out another system for emergincies,) Ryu thought.

Two minutes ago:
"Dude we are so out of here," Charles said grabbing Ategev and putting him under his arm, while pushing Brieanna forward at the same time.
Fred just stood there in panic wondering what to do. Ryu waited for everyone to leave the hall. He hid around the corner, after that second blast. He darted towards the men's bathroom. Ryu pulled off his shirt, revealing his costume.
(It's time to hop into action. It's time for... Wait...)
Ryu quickly put his now soaked shirt back on.
(Wait a second... How on Earth am I going to get out of here? How did Saiya-boy get in a high school? How could I explain it? It's bad enough half my class saw me flip over Charles like he was nothing. How hard will it be to put two and two together?) Ryu thought, looking around.
Ryu opened the bathroom door a crack, looking to see if anyone was there, but no one was in sight.
He climbed out of the bathroom window, hopped on to the garage roof, and jumped down to the ground. He ran around the back parking lot, and hid in the bushes.
(This can't be how Superman does it!) Ryu thought pulling off his shirt. He quickly scrambled behind the cars, being careful not to be seen.
"HEADS UP! Big time super hero comin' through!"
Ryu jetted right over everyone in the parking lot.
(Definitely need to come up with a system,) Ryu thought.
He was now in the second floor hallway. Water kept pouring out of the cieling. He could see a brown cloud of smoke ahead of him. He watched it as if it were going to attack him. He started to notice a faint outline. Soon he could start to make out features.
The first thing he noticed, was a blue tattered and tarnished blanket over whatever was coming to him's head, and shoulders. The next thing he noticed was the red glowing eyes. After that, he could make out dark brown fur all over him. Finally, he noticed blue untorn pants. He wondered how he got those on.He seemed very menacing, when he came out of the smoke, and Ry could see him in full light.
"Uh... You wouldn't happen to be the new Home EC teacher, would you?"
The monster, summoned up a ki ball at flung it at Ryu.
"NYYYRR!" it growled.
Ryu skillfully dodged it and now hung up side down in mid-air, slowly circling the monster. His cape hung down, past his head.
"Listen, I don't want to tell you your buisness... ...but that's kind of a fire hazard," Ryu said punching the beast into a locker. Several lockers, actually.
FUMP! SMASH! Ryu now stood on the floor in front of the beast, with his hand raised and his index finger moving from side to side.
"I hope you don't think I'm going to help you clean this up... Because you are on your own," Ryu said imitating a stereotypical Home EC teacher.
(Look at me being the smart-mouth when I'm scared out of my mind. I guess it's either that or I pee in my tights,) Ryu thought nervously.
The monster flung another ki ball at Ryu, while stumbling to it's feet.
"I don't suppose you'd like to just tell me what the problem is? Whoops!" Ryu skidded along the slippery floor into the wall.
(All right, enough of this...) Ryu thought, getting to his feet.
Ryu jumped into the air, and when the creature saw his coming he immeadietly jabbed his hand into the air. But, Ryu was expecting this and dropped down onto the floor, kicking the monster beast in the groind.
"I hate the food here too... ...but you have to learn to work within the system," Ryu exclaimed.
(I don't know what this thing is exactly, but I gotta get it out of the school and away from everyone. Gotta keep this place in one piece. Gotta keep everyone safe,) Ryu thought.
"Dude, seriously... ...this is mighty low, to trash a school like this."
Ryu kicked the monster in the face with his heel. The beast slammed his fist into the ground where Ryu was, but Ryu dodged it by zipping around behind the creature.
"That's just low. That's like a notch below film producer," Ryu said shoving the monster forward.
The beast swung his arm back, just missing Ryu, who had leaped over his head.
"RYYYRR!" the creature roared in frustration.
"And I feel we are close enough now that our friendship can handle me telling you that you are not exactly as fresh as a daisy," Ryu said trying to push the monster's buttons.
(I gotta get him outta here and now!)
Ryu ran sideways on the lockers to a nearby window. The beast ran after him, quicly closing the gap.
"Hey, you wanna just get a cup of coffee and talk about whatever's up your butt? Come on, I'm buying. I for one, always feel better when I talk things..."
Ryu was SO CLOSE to the window.
(Uh-oh... I'm getting that feeling I always get.)
Ryu tried to turn around, but was immeadietly grabbed by the creature. It rocketed out of the building and flew high up into the sky. People started shouting, screaming, and pointing.
(Too late,) Ryu thought.
The monster landed on the ground hard crushing Ryu under his feet. Then he picked Ryu back up again and flew into the air once more.
(Can't breathe. So high up...)
"Let go..." Ryu whispered barely able to speak. They were a hundred feet, over and away from the school now.
"RRYYUU..." the creature growled.
Ryu looked at the monster in surprise.
"RRRRYYYYUUUU..." the beast growled more loudly.
"Who are you?" Ryu asked shocked and amazed the creature knew his name.
"RRRRRRYYYUUU..." the monster shouted.
"Who are you?" Ryu repeated.
The beast flung Ryu towards the ground, he was falling faster and faster. He couldn't concentrate. He couldn't clear his mind. Then he remembered the ki ball. If he could syphon up enough energy, for a really big blast, without hitting anyone, maybe he could push himself back up so that he could land safely on some nearby building.
His hands started glow a sky colored blue, only with a hint of white in it. The energy in his hands started to spark. He put them together in front of him.
"Dear God, I hope this works..."
A giant beam of blinding blue light shot out of his glowing hands. It was so enormous. Many of the cars next to the students were incinerated by the blast.

Will, Ryu's beam attack work? Find out next time in Chapter 13: Secret Identity!

Chapter 11: Just Let It All Out

It was 11 o'clock at night, at the Brief's mansion. Everyone was asleep. Not a creature was stirring. Not even a mouse. Ategev was sleeping peacefully in his bed, when he heard a high-pitched shriek.
"ATEEGEVV!" his mother yelled.
"What the..."
Ategev leaped out of bed in his boxers. He ran for the door, seeing a yellowish-orange light coming from outside. He entered the hallway, and saw his mother's room's in flames.
"Mom! Mom!" Ategev cried running towards the fire.
He dived through the fire, just barely getting burnt. He could feel the intense heat of the flames.
He looked through the frail wood still standing, that which used to support the bedroom doorway, and saw a hand with shards of glass stuck in it, being melted away.
"MOM!" Ategev yelled.
A dark looming shadow rose up above Ategev.
"Mom...?" Ategev said, peering upwards to see what was making the shadow. He could barely make out a faint silhouette of someone. He was either, very buff, or very fat, and had red glowing eyes. Whatever it was, summoned up a small red ki ball, in it's left hand. This illuminated the beast a little, but it's appearance wasn't what made Ategev's eyes widen immeadietly.
The beast swung the energy ball at the house. Ategev dove to the right, hearing a almost deafining: BABOOM!
"Oh God... Aah..."
Ategev ran out of the house, exiting out of the living room doors.
"AH AH AH... OOF!"
Ategev tripped on a stone step. He looked at his foot and saw a very large, and red scrape there. It looked about ready to bleed. Ategev stood up, shakily, trying not to put to much pressure on his bum foot.
"Please... Somebody! SOMEBODY HELP!" Ategev screamed, watching the beast fly away.

"Yes, we... We heard a noise in the back. And to be honest, we both thought it was Ryu. Because Ryu uses the back entrance most of the time. But Ryu called out to him, and he didn't answer."
Videl pictured her and Ryu sitting at the table playing poker, looking at the hallway entrance, at the sudden sound.
"And right then, I don't know why, but right then I knew something was wrong. I knew that someone was in our house. I could... I could just tell from the kind of silence."
"Both of you were in the living room?" a man asked.
"Yes. And I think Gohan knew something was wrong too, because he got up first. He got up and he called out to Ryu again. There was nothing for a second, then we heard a pan drop. Gohan looked at me and said he thought a squirell got in the house. And I said I never heard of that happening in the outskirts of West City. Then I looked in the doorway of the kitchen, and there he was."
Videl pictured a man, with jeans and a jacket on, his face concealed by the shadows. She remembered, Gohan getting in front of her, and holding his hands out.
"He... He was standing there in the doorway... He was shaking, and he asked us where we kept our money. Ryu told him we don't have any. And we didn't. Nothing."
Tears welled up in Videl's eyes.
"And the guy just got real agitated and screamed: "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!' And Gohan... He... He just... He..." Videl couldn't get the words out quite right. He eyes began to grow wide.
"I guess it was just the tension of the situation, the ridiculousness, I don't know, the way things have been going lately. But, Gohan he.... He kind of chuckled and said: You probably have more money than we do.'"
Videl could just picture Gohan smiling at the man, almost laughing. Tears, began streaming down her eyes.
"And the... the chuckle kind of, I don't know, it really made him mad," Videl finished.
"What happened next, ma'am?" the man asked again.
"And that was it. He just ran out the way he came and... Oh, no." Videl said, seeing Ryu come through the door.
There were two policemen in the lobby of the house. One was standing next to the pictures on the wall, past the doorway to the living room. Another was standing at the doorway, exiting and entering, every now and then, to let people through. One of the people from the ambulance had a black bag with Gohan's body in it, on a roller. He had sleeked back gray hair, and 4 peircings on his right ear. He had a stethoscope hanging around his neck, and a walkie-talkie attached to his belt.
In the living room, on the couch, sat Brieanna's mother, Aneerah Jordan, Videl, and Ryu, whose head was slumped over. Ryu had grabbed Videl's hand and was holding on to it tightly. Videl had blood spattered on her nice, pink, button down shirt. There was a forensic investigator collecting evidence, and circling things on the floor, like bullet caps, and Gohan's outline. There was a pool of blood, right in the chest area of Gohan's body's outline. There was s tall, bald, black man with a mustache. He was jotting notes down, as Videl was telling her story. He wore the basic buisness suit. It was almost the same, but it was all gray, and seemed a bit more formal.
"You two will stay with us tonight," Aneerah said bowing her head.
Videl turned towards Ryu. She widened her eyes, and tears streamed down her face, mor rapidly. Ryu lifted his head, when Videl grabbed the shoulder of his shirt. He was crying too, although not as rapidly as Videl.
"What are we going to do, Ryu? Oh, no!" Videl cried.
"Units respond to a 340 at Chelsea and 9th," a voice said over a radio on one of the policemen's shoulder.
The policeman pressed a button on the radio.
"Copy dispatch," the policeman said.
"Do you guys have any spare cars over there? We have a 340," the man said over the radio.
"We're almost done here. What's up?" the cop asked.
Videl was sobbing on Ryu's shoulder now. Ryu, however was listening to the conversation between the two policemen.
"We got a guy... tried to rob a Popeye's Chicken not two blocks from where you are. Three squad cars were parked out front and the guy still thought he could take the place. They chased him into an abandoned warehouse and are requesting backup," the man said over the radio.
"Man, the idiot brigade is out in full force tonight, yeah, we'll send car 444 over now. Over..." the police man said.
"Over."
The other policeman walked over to the policeman with the radio. Ryu listened intently.
"A foot chase? Maybe the same guy who perpetrated this whammy?" the second police officer asked.
"I wish. Go on over and be cop," the first police officer replied.
Ryu's eyes narrowed. He immeadietly got up, and ran for the doorway.
The man jotting notes got startled and looked up. Videl was confused at first.
"Ryu? Ryu!" Videl called, but Ryu just ignored her.
"Oh, it's okay, ma'am. Kids take these things the hardest..." the man jotting notes said, "The kid's just got to find a way to let it out."

Ryu put his costume on immeadietly, and was already flying over houses.
At the warehouse, there were three police cars with the same number of officers outside. They all had their lights on, but didn't have their sirens on. Two of the officers had flashlights. One carried a automatic rifle, one carried a standard pistol, and one carried a shotgun. The man with a pistol shouted over the loudspeaker.
"We're not going to wait here all night, pal! Be smart and cooperate!"
"Officers at 412, back up is on the way," a man said over the radio.
"That's good news, dispatch. I would like to finish my dinner," the man said back through the radio.
"Call in the update, over," the man through the radio said again.
"Sure, sure. Over," the man with the loudspeaker replied.
Up on the third floor of the warehouse, the man who stole the chicken was watching them, through a broken window.
"Pigs are everywhere..." the theif muttered, pulling his pistol out of his jacket.
"The only way out is through the front door! If we have to charge in there, it ain't going to be pretty," the man with the loudspeaker said again.
"Take you with me if I have to, pieces of garbage. Gonna get outta here one way or another," the man muttered, walking away from the window.
"That's exaclty what I was hoping to hear..." a voice said, ahead of the thief.
The theif looked up, startled at the voice.
Ryu stood in full costume (still without the red armor) in the dooway, menacingly, as if looking down on him. He had his arms crossed, and since the thief was half-crouched, he kind of was looking down on him.
"...murderer!" Ryu growled.
"NYYAAHH!" the thief screamed, letting off two shots of his pistol.
BLAM! BLAM! Ryu leaped to the right, dodging the bullets by at least three feet. Ryu then took a step forward and flicked the gun out of the man's hands. The gun went flying against the wall, and almost went through it. Then Ryu leaped back into the shadows and dissapeared.
"Everyone down!" the policeman with the loudspeaker ordered.
"I... I must be seein' things. I..." the thief said stumbling around the warehouse looking for his gun, "Must be out of my..."
THUMP! A tire hit the thief's back hard.
"OOOFF!" the man cried, falling face forward onto the floor, the tire rolling away.
"Maybe he popped himself?" the policeman with the shotgun asked.
"You wish," the policeman with the rifle answered.
The police man with the pistol and loudspeaker now had a rifle as well.
"What is this? Wh... What's goin' on? I gotta... I gotta hide... I gotta..." the theif's (hereby known as Theif) eyes widened.
Ryu stepped into the light, striding over to the Thief. Theif tried to get up, with much diffuculty.
"Mister, there is nowhere on Earth you will be able to hide from me!" Ryu declared.
"AARRRGG!" Theif yelled, lunging at Ryu.
Ryu simply countered it by slamming his right fist into his face, sending Theif flying. It made a resounding POK!
"Ya can't... Ya can't..." Theif breathed in between gasps.
"Yeah, well you shoulda thought about that before you... That... That face! It's... Oh no, it can't be..." Ryu muttered seeing Theif's face.
It was that man! The man who told Ryu to get out of his way! The man, the deli owner hassled Ryu about stopping! The man who shot Gohan!
"He hasn't come out the back either, Captain Nunes?" one of the officers asked.
The man who was jotting notes down earlier, had made his way to the warehouse. He had a heavy blue jacket on, and his badge hung from his neck.
"Your call," one of the other officers said.
Back in the warehouse, Ryu took out Theif's driver's license, and was looking it over.
"Should we call S.W.A.T.?" the last officer asked.
Thief flew out the windo, with a rope tied to his waist. Shattered glass fell to the ground. Everyone was startled. Thief hung from the rope through the window. Two of the police officer's smiled gleefully, poking him with shotguns. Captain Nunes just stared at Theif wondering how this happened to him. Captain Nunes looked around. Then, startled he spotted something.
It was Ryu flying away, looking back at his handiwork. By the time one of the cops reported to Captain Nunes, he was already out of sight though.
"The place is empty. We found the gun, but..." the policeman said leaving Captain Nunes to fill in the blanks.
"What happened in there?" Captain Nunes asked Thief.
"Seein' things... Seein' things..." Thief mumbled.
"What? What did you see?" Captain Nunes asked.
When Theif didn't answer he lifted up his head. His eyes were blank, as he were hypnotizied.

"You told me... You told me..." Ryu mumbled.
He was standing on the corner of a building, holding his helmet in his hand. He had his eyes closed and bowed his head. He remembered Gohan telling him his father's beliefs. His mind wandered back to the deli owner, wishing he hadn't been so rude. Then his mind wandered back to when Gohan was shot. He wasn't there but he could picture it so perfectly.
"Great things are going to happen to you in your life, Ryu. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility. Do you understand?"
Ryu looked at his helmet. He stared at the black seethrough visor, and narrowed his eyes.
"I do now."

(Iwas selfish. So selfish, and you paid the price. You did, I did, Grandma Videl did. I will never ever forgive myself for that. I will never ever forget that i could have stopped it.) All night Ryu preformed good deeds. He did everything from saving children,
(It's all so clear now, Grandpa Gohan. It's like I've been wearing a blindfold and earmuffs all my life, and someone just ripped them off me. I see the world clearly now, and I see what my place is in it.) to saving women from gangs, to beating up bank robbers.
(And with great power then must come great responsibility. I will never let you down again, Grandpa Gohan.)

Later that night, (it was probably, technically morning by now) Ryu returned home uncostumed. He walked sadly across the street to his house. Ryu noticed someone sitting on his doorstep. The person appeared to be female, but he couldn't really tell until she stood up, and walked into the streetlight with Ryu.
"How you doing?" Brieanna asked.
She wasn't wearing the same clothing from the party. She wore a pink button down shirt, light brown khakis and black flip-flops.
"I... Uh... I don't know," Ryu answered, unsure of himself.
"Your Grandma is staying with us," Brieanna said.
"Good," Ryu replied.
"They asked me to wait here for you. Bring you back to our place if, you know, if you want. I was so worried," Brieanna explained.
Ryu put his hand over his face, and let tears roll down his eyes rapidly. He crumpled to the ground and started sobbing. Brieanna got down on her knees and hugged him tightly.
They held onto each other for what seemed like forever.

Chapter 9 and a half through 10

I know there's no such thing as a chapter and a half, but it'd be kinda awkward to fit it into chapter 10, and it would have been even more awkward to fit it into chapter 9. It would have been random. But, anyway, here's chapter 9 and a half.

The doors slid open and Ategev entered the experimental lab room.
"Hey, what's going on?" Ategev asked casually.
Vegeta Jr. said in a chair with his shirt off. There were three people in orange and gold colored lab suits Ategev guessed were kind of like radiation suits or something like that. Vegeta Jr.'s assistant was on the other side of the chair Vegeta Jr was sitting in. Vegeta Jr. had all sorts of cords connected to him and some sort of device covering his right forearm. Doctor Ginyu was checking something on some sort of panel or dial. Ategev couldn't tell from where he was standing.
"Ategev, this isn't... Do you people know the meaning of the words: clamp down? The lab is off limits to unauthorized personnel! And that includes him for God's sake!" Vegeta Jr. exclaimed looking at Ategev.
"But what's going on? Why are you..."
"Will you please remove him from the premises?" Vegeta Jr. barked toward his assistant.
A moment later, Vegeta Jr.'s assistant was escorting Ategev out of the room.
"What's going on?" Ategev tried again.
"Ategev, now is really not the time," Vegeta Jr.'s assistant replied ignoring Ategev's question.
"We are good to go, sir?" Doctor Ginyu asked.
"Everything checked and double checked?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
"We are good to go," Doctor Ginyu answered.
"Let's do it," Vegeta Jr. said.
Ginyu went back to where he was before and pressed a round button above the control panel he was using. Brute waves surged into Vegeta Jr. Vegeta Jr. closed his eyes and clenched his teeth. He had never experienced anything like this before. It was overwhemingly painful, but there was a sense of anger mixed with pleasure at the same time. He was sweating profusely. Doctor Ginyu smiled. Vegeta Jr.'s assistant was trying to persuade Ategev to leave, but then Ategev heard a low hum of a machine. He grabbed his father's assistant and moved him to the side. Vegeta Jr.'s assistant heard it too, and looked towards the door. Ategev was only a few feet away from the door. He took a step towards it (actually darting towards it, but he was only a foot or two away from the door), and the doors slid open. Ategev gasped.
"NNYAAGGHH!" Vegeta Jr. screamed.

Chapter 10: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

"For those of you just tuning in... There has been a major accident at the main laboratory facilities of Capsule Corporation earlier this evening."
There were bodies everywhere. Won was lying on have broken glass. Very jagged glass, stading up vertical. If you were there you would have seen the glass under his shirt pulling his shirt up sharply. One person was buried under debris. The only visible part of his body was his left arm and hand. Two other people were lying on top of each other both lying face down. One person was lying sideways, with sharp debris right next to him. It kind of looked like rusted metal. Another hung from the cieling with wiring hanging down next to him.
"Details are still sketchy, but we have confirmation that there are fatalities involved."
Vegeta Jr.'s assistant lay dead on debris stacked high, on the bottom floor. A peice of glass was sticking through him as well. Straight through his chest in fact. If you were there you could also see it poking out his shirt as well.
"Capsule Corporation has widely been considered a world leader in scientific and medical breakthroughs over the last decade, employing many of the greatest scientific minds of our generation. A company still run by company founder and local West City resident Vegeta Jr."
Captain Ginyu lay on the ground drooling. He wasn't dead. His glasses were cracked, and he had a gash on the side of his head.
"UHHGGHH..." he moaned.
"There has been much speculation in the medical community about the company's future. Sources tell us that there has been industry talk of some revolutionary new product being developed by Capsule. Whether or not what has happened tonight has anything to do with such a product is unclear. Authorities are asking residents and travelers to stay clear of the area of Capsule Corportion until such time as the safety of the area can be declared secure.
Ategev was lying on his side on the ground. His left leg was buried under rubble.
"Dad..." he mumbled.
"Again, for those of you just tuning in... There has been a major accident at the main laboratory facilities of Capsule Corporation earlier this evening. Whether or not local bisnessman and entrepreneur Vegeta Jr. Briefs was on the scene during the accident is still unclear."
It was a horrible mess. On the main floor, there were two scientists looking around at the damage, stunned at what happened here. There was also an insurance guy walking around summing up the damage. And finally, there were four maintenence men. Three of them, were lifting a rather large piece of metal of of someone. The other was just standing around watching them.
On the second floor, there were five scientists. One was just looking around stunned at the damage, like the other two on the first floor. Two of them, were looking around trying to salvage any data, they could find, that either wasn't torn, or wasn't burnt. The last two were trying to put out a fire. Four security men were assisting them.
"Please stay tuned to us, your local twenty-four hour news channel, for developments as they happen."

"Be gentle... Be gentle..." the Crusher muttered.
"Such a baby, God!" Ryu exclaimed.
Ryu was standing on one of the corner polls, and had lifted the Crusher up once again.
"Do it! Do it!" Charles shouted.
Fred was there too. He still had his cast on.
Ryu leaped off of the poll, with the Crusher still in his hands. The entire arena fell silent.
SLAM! Ryu slammed down the Crusher onto the floor. The crowd roared.
"It's unbelievable! It is unbelievable, ladies and gentlemen!" the announcer shouted.
"HU-HOOO!" one kid screamed.
"He did it again! The Amazing Saiya-boy! The Amazing SAIYA-BOY!" the announcer shouted.
"All right, all right, don't hurt yourself..." Ryu said, crossing his arms.
The Crusher pulled himself to his feet, and held his head.

"And if you'll just pony up the bucks, I'll be on my way," Ryu said with an outstretched hand, "Uh.. Hello?"
"Where's the petty cash?" the announcer snapped.
This time, the announcer's hair was slicked to the side, and he wore, a light navyblue suit.
"What do you mean?" Ryu asked.
"The money! Where is the money that we keep from the box office reciepts right here in this office?!" the announcer shouted, pointing at Ryu.
The announcer backed Ryu out into the hallway, with his finger, even closer to Ryu's face. The announcer leaned over. Ryu leaned back, to stay away from him, almost intimadated.
"Well, how on Earth would I know?" Ryu answered.
"Well you knew it was in here!" the announcer exclaimed.
"So did they," Ryu countered.
"Well, you're the only one here I don't know. I don't know you! Take off that mask or I'm calling the cops," the announcer ordered.
"Are you serious? Now why on Earth would I..."
"That why all the mystery? And I fell right for it, didn't I? You lousy sack of..."
"Please, if I wanted to rob the place, I certainly wouldn't need to..."
"Why don't we talk to the police about it?" someone asked from behind him.
Ryu looked around. There were at least a dozen wrestlers, if not more, all looking at Ryu. He and the announcer were in the center. Ryu still had his costume on. Helmet and everything.
"I think it's about time that helmet came off. And I mean right now," the announcer said slowly.
Ryu leaped out from the center and behind a long blonde-haired wrestler.
"You guys are nuts, you know that? Really in need of some kind of group steriod counseling or something..." Ryu said landing on the floor and taking off for the door.
By the time the announcer let out the words: "Get him!" Ryu was already slamming open the doors.
"'Get him'? Wow! You ever think of writing for the theater?" Ryu asked, nearly having to shout, because he was so far ahead of everyone.
When the wrestlers opened the doors, they opened them to find a completely empty arena. Not a sign of life anywhere.

(Well, there goes my wrestling career. Bunch o' maniacs. I could'a mopped the floor with the bunch of them. They're so lucky I've got a heart of gold. Sure, there's the tainted blood of a saiyan running through it, but it's still a heart of gold,) Ryu thought leaping across a building.
When Ryu, landed on the roof of the other building, he looked around to make sure no one was there. Then he began to change back into his regular clothes. It was a purple sweatshirt, with baggy jeans.
(So, I'll get a normal job like a normal teenager, help chip in for Grandpa Gohan and Grandma Videl. Wonder if these saiyan powers will be an asset changing the grease traps at the corner Good Burger. No, I gotta get a job with computers or at a lab or something,) he thought, putting his sweater on.
(Can't believe those guys were going to rip my head off like that. I bet that manager ripped the place off himself. Figures he can pin it on me like that. Really burns my butt,) Ryu thought sliding down a gutter pipe, and landing on the sidewalk. He walked to the corner of the street, not really paying attention to life around him.
(Why are people always so quick to jump down my throat? I tell you, I am so sick of it,) Ryu thought.
"Help we've been robbed. HE ROBBED THE DELI! MY DELI! He robbed us! Somebody..." a slightly overweight man shouted, into the night. He was just to the right of Ryu. There was a man with a backwards cap, white shirt, ugly brown jacket, and blue jeans on, running towards him. He also had jet black hair, and wore black Newbrand shoes.
"OH!" cried a fat lady, that the man knocked over, running away from the deli.
(I mean, is it me? Or is it that everywhere I go someone's getting in my face about something?) Ryu thought.
Suddenly, he felt something, as if he was in danger. He jerked his head to see the man about to run into him. He stopped and stared at the man, prepared to fight if he had to.
"Hey! Get..." the man in the cap stuttered, "Get outta my way! Out!"
"Shall we dance?" Ryu said tauntingly, raising his fist.
Then the man darted across the street, seeing that Ryu was determined not to move.
"Jeez! Can you believe that guy? What a dork! What?" Ryu asked as the man and the woman stared at him angrily.
"What was that?" the deli owner asked.
"What was what?" Ryu asked.
"Why didn't you stop him? All you had to do was trip him. Stick your foot out and he's kissing pavement!" the owner answered.
"Whatever..." Ryu muttered, realizing what he was saying.
"All you had to do..." the owner muttered, glaring at Ryu.
"Yeah, well, I've got my own problems, big guy!" Ryu snapped back.
"Little snot," the fat lady said.

Later when Ryu got home, he was also greeted unwelcomely.
"Where've you been?" Gohan asked.
"Practice," Ryu lied.
"What's going on?" Gohan asked.
He held a paper in his hand, but Ryu couldn't see what it said, because it was facing the other direction. Videl had her head sunk low not looking at Ryu. There were both obviously angry with him.
"With what?" Ryu asked.
He had no clue what they were talking about, but at that note, even Videl looked up at Ryu. They both gave him cold, long, hard stares, as if to say: "You know what you did wrong." But, Ryu still didn't know what was wrong.
"What?" Ryu asked.
Gohan turned the paper around. It read: HARRISON NIGHT SCHOOL
PARENT NOTICE
SON, RYU
ENGLISH PROGRESS
A A A D
"English. How do you go from an 'A' to this?" Gohan asked.
Ryu's eyes grew wide.
"Can I see that?" Ryu asked.
"Am I to assume that your other grades have slipped as well?" Gohan asked expecting a "yes."
"I don't know," Ryu answered, irritably.
"What's going on, Ryu? This is serious," Gohan said.
"I don't know. I guess I have... I have different priorities now," Ryu stated firmly.
"'Different priorities'? Your grades were such a point of pride for you, Ryu. I don't understand. You know what? Maybe this basketball thing isn't such a good idea," Videl spoke up.
"No way!" Ryu exclaimed turing towards Videl.
"Gohan, it's great that you've discovered sports and all, but we have to think something is really wrong when we get a report from your school like this..."
"I can do whatever I want!" Ryu exclaimed, getting nervous, beggining to lose his temper.
"Oh, really?" Videl asked almost histerically.
"I can't beleive this!" Ryu shouted, backing towards the door.
"Ryu, I think you should apologize to your grandmother for this tone of yours," Gohan said, ignoring Ryu.
"SCREW THIS!" Ryu screamed running down the walkway of the house.
Gohan, and Videl were shocked.

(I hate this,) Ryu thought, flying vertically upwards to the roof of a building.
(Why can't I just tell them? Just tell them what I can do now. Tell them I that I'm okay. That I'm so much better than okay. It's like something is holding me back, like I shouldn't tell them,) Ryu thought, flying across the rooftops.
"Everything is so different now and I haven't even had, like, a second to figure it all out. One minute I'm Ryu Son, King of the Dweebs, and then all of a sudden I can do this. And I don't even know what this is. Now I'm playing basket ball and I don't even like it. I'm wrestling and I don't even like it,) Ryu thought some more, flying over an empty street.
(It isn't me. I don't care about any of that stuff. But what do I do now? Why has this happened to me? Maybe I should just bite the bullet and talk to someone. Ategev's creepy dad maybe. I can't talk about it to grandma and grandpa. Not after, what I said to them. He can help me. He's a scientist. One thing's for sure, I'm not going back home tonight. But where can I go? If I go to Brieanna's the Jordans will call my house. Ategev's in the hills,) Ryu thought, going throught the list of people he knew, landing lightly on the street.
Suddenly, he got an idea and darted to his right, and ran around the corner.
(Oh, man. I can't believe I'm even thinking this.)

"For those of you just tuning in... There seems to have been a major accident at the main laboratory facilities of Capsule Corporation earlier this evening." a lady on WSB news channel reported.
Charles was sleeping on the couch in front of the tv. He wore sandals, big blue jeans, a gray jacket, and a black Saiya-boy shirt.
DING DONG!
"zzzzzz... SNORT!"
"Please stay tuned to us, your local twenty-four hour news channel, for developments as they happen."
Charles sat up, and grabbed the remote.
"Repeating our top story, there was a major accident..."
ZOOOP!
Charles turned the television off. He got up, walked toward the door, opened it, and saw Ryu standing there.
"Hey..."
"Son!" Charles exclaimed.
"I know this seems awfully bizarre considering our history up until recently but... But... Uh... I think I just need a place to sack out," Ryu said.
"Yeah, okay. Come on... My parents are gone out of town for the week, so no biggie..." Charles replied.
"Where'd you get that?" Ryu said, noticing his face with the helmet, on Charles shirt.
"At the arena. Whoo, man! He's all the rage," Charles explained.

Two hours later, over fifty people were at Charles house. Charles got the idea of having a party, so he called some people, and they called some people, and those people called some people... But, anyway, it was a huge party. And loud too.
Charles, Fred, and Tony were all congregated in the kitchen.
"He crashed here?" Fred asked.
"He did," Charles answered.
"In your pad?" Fred asked.
"Right there on that couch," Charles replied.
"And you let him," Fred said sourly.
"Sure," Charles said, simply.
"Puny Son?" Fred asked.
"What are you... Six years old?" Charles asked.
"You guys hear what happened to Ategev's dad?" Tony asked.
Ryu and Lizzie were sitting on the couch together. Lizzie was sitting on the armrest, her legs spread apart. Her true hair color was showing this time. It was bright orange. She wore a skimpy matching top, with the same shade of orange on it, and blue jean shorts.
"Where's Brainy Brie tonight?" Lizzie asked.
"Don't call her that. And I don't know where Brieanna is, Lizzie. I haven't really talked to her today," Ryu answered.
"Aaaww... I thought you guys were, like, an item," Lizzie said.
"An item? I don't... Not exactly," Ryu replied.
"The little dude had a fight with his folks or whoever it is he lives with and asked to crash," Charles explained to Tony, and Fred, ignoring Tony's question.
"And you let him?" Fred asked.
"So what? Guy's on the team. W gotta look out for each other," Charles explained.
"Unbelievable," Fred said, getting angry.
"Hate to break it to you... That guy might have gotten us into the state finals, so..." Charles trailed off, letting Fred fill in the blank.
"Oh, please!" Fred said looking away.
"Did you guys hear about Ategev?" Tony tried again.
"So you guys aren't dating?" Lizzie asked.
"No," Ryu answered.
"Do... Do you like girls?" Lizzie asked.
"Yeah. Uh... What?" Ryu asked.
What kind of question was that?
"Hey, you can never be too sure, Mr. Son. My Mom was dating a gay guy for like a year, never knew it," Lizzie said, making up a lie.
"Sounds like a fascinating woman, but..."
"Yeah, where was Ategev today?" Charles asked.
"Dude, I'm telling you. The man's dad was blown up or sumpthin'." Tony explained.
"What?" Charles asked skeptically.
"What I heard," Tony said.
"Wouldn't that, like, be on the news or somethin'?" Charles asked.
"I called him. He wasn't home," Tony said.
"Look at that Lizzie. Such a slut," Fred said, looking for something to complain about.
"What do you think of me, Ryu?" Lizzie asked.
"I think you're just a little drunk, Lizzie," Ryu answered.
"Little bit," Lizzie replied.
"Think you should be drinking?" Ryu asked.
"Little bit," Lizzie repeated.
Brieanna entered the house. There were a few more people outside. One of them was Gohan, looking for Ryu.
Brieanna wore, a pink light jacket, with gold braclets on her wrists. She wore a orange top, that was a darker shade of Lizzie's. She wore short black jeans, and black sandals.
"Can I help it if I think you're just a little cute there Mr. Son," Lizzie said, climbing on to Ryu.
"Lizzie..." Ryu said, half pushing Lizzie away, half letting her sit on him.
There lips were just inches away from each other, when Brieanna squeezed past two people, and saw Ryu and Lizzie.
"Brieanna... Oh, man... Brieanna! Brieanna. Breianna... Let me..."
As soon as he saw her he stopped. He put Lizzie down, almost shoving her aside, on the couch. Brieanna jogged away, in tears. Ryu ran after her. He struggled to get through the crowd. When he got to the doorway, someone barred his path.
It was Gohan. He had a meancing look on his face. He didn't even seem relieved that that he had found Ryu.
"Let's go..." Gohan muttered.
He grabbed Ryu by the sleeve and dragged him out of the house.
"Grandpa Gohan, don't..." Ryu said.
Of all the times he had to be found by his grandfather, it had to be now.
"Dude... Busted," Charles said, observing from afar.
"Stop it, I can walk myself. You're embarrasing me!" Ryu exclaimed, as he tried to resist his grandfather.
People were watching them as they walked down the walkway away from the house. They stopped when they reached a tree on the front lawn.
"How can you do that to Videl? Leave and stay out all night. You're fifteen years old, Ryu. And with all the tragedy in our family? To leave like that. Really, Ryu, how can you do that to the woman?" Gohan asked.
"I don't know," Ryu answered sadly.
"What's going on with you lately? Something's going on. This isn't you," Gohan said.
"I don't know," Ryu repeated, closing his eyes.
Oh, Ryu. You're such... Really, you're such a good kid. Such a bright... No, more than bright. You're as smart as they come. And this... this is just stupid. You know, your father, God rest his soul," Gohan continued, putting a hand on Ryu's shoulder.
Ryu looked down at the ground.
"Your father had a philosophy that he held to pretty strongly. And it's one that served him very, very well..."
Ryu looked up sharply.
"He believed that if there were things in this world that you had to offer, things that you did well, better than anyone else... ...things that you could do that helped people feel better about themselves... ...well, he believed that it wasn't just a good idea to do those things... ...he believed it was your responsibility to do those things."
Ryu put his head down again.
"Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen to you and your life, Ryu. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility. Do you understand?" Gohan asked.
Ryu looked up at Gohan angrily. Then his eyes turned from anger to care.
"Great responsibility," Gohan finished.
Ryu put his head down again.
"My father," Ryu said, "If he knew so much... THEN WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?!" Ryu screamed, dashing away from his grandfather, tears streaming down his eyes.
Gohan just stared after him.
"Come on, Ryu, snap out of it. You can do it," Gohan said quietly to himself.

It was raining out. A huge thunderstorm, over the entirety of, of West City. Lighting flashed.
"MMFFRRR... MMFFRRR..."
A beast of irregular size stumbled into an alleyway. It had glowing red eyes, had tufts of hair on parts of its body, and stood, at full height 7'5''. He grabbed a blanket off of a hobo, and trotted off mumbling: "PPPRRKKK... PPPRRKKK..."

(So stupid. Crying like a girl. He didn't deserve that. He doesn't know. He doesn't know that ever since the whole Saiya-boy thing began all I can think is that the one person who would know what to do was my dad. My dad would have known what to make of all this... My powers... What they mean,) Ryu thought as a lighting bolt flashed across the sky.
It was pouring down rain, and the rain was pelting hard onto Ryu's head.
(But I'm wrong. And I'm sick of being wrong. Grandpa Gohan and Grandma Videl are my family and it's way past time for me to grow up. It's time I told them what is going on with me and whatever happens happens. If I'm a freak, I'm a freak. They love me no matter what,) Ryu thought leaping off the top of a building as another lightning bolt flashed.

Ten minutes later, Ryu showed up at his house, with his duffle bag, that had his costume in it. Ryu took one look at his house, and his eyes widened. Ther were four police cars, and two ambulance's in front of his house. There was a crowd of people standing ten feet away of the do not cross line.
"Oh, no..." Ryu muttered.

Chapter 9: The New Costume

"Yo, Ategev! For real! Then he picked this Crusher dude up over his head..." Charles explained.
"Did not," Ategev said.
"No, man, for real," Fred said.
"And just, wham!" Charles exclaimed.
"Wham?" Ategev asked skeptically.
"Total wham!" Charles exclaimed.
"Who was he?" Ategev asked.
"Just this skinny dude in, like, a mask," Charles answered.
Charles and Fred were telling the story of the wrestling match to Ategev and all the jockeys, on the stairs to the second floor. Basically, everyone on the basketball team. Brieanna and Ryu were standing at the corner of the hallway. Ryu was leaning against the wall, and Brieanna was holding her books talking to Ryu about something.
"So listen, the geometry extra credit's going to be take home, you want to do it together or..."
Ryu wasn't listening to Brieanna though. He was staring at the crowd over by the stairs listening to Fred and Charles. He was glad he was getting a reputation even though noone knew it was HIS reputation.
"I was thinking you could do a draft and I could do a draft and we could... Hello? Ryu? Ryu!" Brieanna exclaimed noticing Ryu wasn't listening to her.
"Yeah, what? I'm sorry," Ryu said snapping to attention.
Suddenly, the coach appeared around the corner.
"Son!" the coach barked.
"What did I do now, coach?" Ryu asked jokingly.
"That preformance you laid on us Monday, on the court, can you do it again or was it all lucky stuff?" the coach asked.
"Why?" Ryu asked.
"Why? We're short. And now it looks like you've got the goods and've been holding out on us," the coach said.
Fred who was walking by, apparently finished telling the story about the arena match stepped in the conversation. Ategev, and Charles were with him too.
"No way!" Fred exclaimed.
"Oh, I don't know," Ryu said modestly, seeing that Fred was getting angry over this. A perfect time to make him mad, Ryu thought.
"Show up to practice after school and let's see what ya got," the coach said.
"But I..." Ryu stuttered.
"You're not really thinking of..."
"Come on, coach. Don't do this to me. I'll be as good as gold by...'
"By the end of the season. Sorry, kiddo, that's the game," the coach explained.
"But Son?! Come on!" Fred exclaimed.
A hint of anger flickered in Ryu's eyes. Then he said: "Yeah, I'll be there."
"MAAAAYYNN!" Charles exclaimed shocked at Ryu's decision. Fred shot Ryu a dark look.

The next night, Ryu was on the team, and shootin' hoops.
FUMP! FUMP! FUMP! FUMP! FUMP!
Ryu leaped up into the air. He had a red jersey on that had the number "00" on it.
Videl, Gohan, and Brieanna were in the crowd cheering. Ryu made a slam dunk, and a buzzer rang. It was the end of the game. Home team: 114 points. Visiting team: 26 points. Ryu's entire team lifted him up into the air. The crowd cheered. Ryu looked up at Brieanna and smiled. Brieanna smiled back.

After the game Ryu went to his locker and got his books from his backpack. He sat down on the floor and started reading one. (I know. He's a weird kid.)
Brieanna walked up to him, and Ryu closed his book.
"So, you want to do the geometry thing Monday night or..."
"You want to do it with me?" Ryu asked unbeleivingly.
He couldn't beleive Brieanna was asking HIM of all people. He liked her so much for as long as he could remember, but Brieanna never seemed to show the same feelings for him. He started to feel butterflies in his stomach. Ryu stood up leaning against his locker.
"Well, duh. I only tried to ask you like a billion times and..."
"Oh, crap!" Ryu exclaimed. He just remembred the wrestling match he had to do on Monday.
"Monday... No... No I can't," Ryu said.
"Why?" Brieanna asked glumfully.
"I got a thing," Ryu answered.
He didn't want Breianna to know that HE was the mystery wrestler. He would've been in enough trouble if the announcer found out. It seemed to Ryu that he was also sort of the manager.
"You have a thing?" Brieanna asked sadly looking down at the floor.
"I got a thing," Ryu repeated.
"What? Like a basketball thing?" Brieanna asked.
"No, I..." Ryu stuttered.
"Never mind. Just... Never mind," Brieanna said walking away, very frustrated.
"Brieanna, I... It's big," Ryu said.
But it was too late. Brieanna had already turned a corner and gone out of site.

Next Monday, Ryu was at the arena again, fighting the Crusher in the same dorky outfit.
"Who is the masked surprise attacker? Who is it?! Who is overpowering the invincible Crusher?" the announcer said over the speakerphone.
Ryu and the Crusher were locked in place, each trying to push each other backwards with their sheer strength.
"They said it can't be done! They said it never would be done!" the announcer shouted over the microphone.
Suddenly, Ryu lifted the Crusher up into the air again. This time his chest was resting on Ryu's palms.
"This wasn't in the script! This isn't what I signed on for," the Crusher said.
"Oh, quit your whining!" Ryu exclaimed.
WHAM!
Ryu slammed the Crusher hard onto the arena floor.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! The Crusher is defeated! The Crusher is defeated!" the announcer shouted over the microphone.
The announcer was getting very annoying to Ryu. He seemed to stereotypical of an announcer. Almost like he was trying to hard. The referee stepped in front of Ryu.
"And the referee calls the fight finished! We have a new UCW champion!" the announcer announced.
"What's your name?" the announcer asked Ryu.
"I told you, I don't..."
"We need a name... A stage name..." the announcer said hurriedly.
"Oh! Uh... Uh... The Saiyan. Is that..."
The announcer immeadietly lifted up his arm.
"The Amazing Saiya-boy!" the announcer shouted.
"No! I..."
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Spectacular Saiya-boy!" the announcer shouted even louder.
Ryu smiled darkly under his mask.

After the show was over and everyone left, Crusher and Ryu were waiting in the announcer's office. Soon, the announcer came in with the five hundred dollars and a duffle bag.
"Here you go, 'Saiya-boy.'" the announcer chuckled.
Ryu took the money and counted it up.
"You okay, Crusher?" Ryu asked modestly.
"Yeah, I'm just great," the Crusher said sarcastically, and slowly, glaring at the money Ryu was counting.
"Not too rough on ya?" Ryu asked trying to get a rise out of the Crusher.
"Don't push it," the Crusher snapped.
"Listen, hot shot, I need a number where I can call you," the announcer said.
"Sorry. Can't do to it," Ryu replied simply.
"Oy! So you're going to be a huge pain in my butt?" the announcer asked obviously getting tired of Ryu.
"Sure, why not?" Ryu asked bratilly.
"Listen, this anonymous stuff is for the birds, my friend," the announcer said sternly pointing at Ryu.
"Way it's gotta be," Ryu repeated.
"If it gets back to me that you're being paid under teh table from me..."
"You gonna fire me? Don't worry about it," Ryu said carelessly.
"All right, smarty guy. Try to find your way back here Friday night. But next time, wear this. I had it made for you special," the announce said with a dark smile on his face, holding out the duffle bag he had.
Ryu took the duffle bag and looked inside it it.
"Why?" Ryu asked looking up.
"'Cause no offense, kid, with the get-up ya got... ...you kind of look like a dork, the announcer answered.

"They just left it under the door again?" Videl asked.
"They just left it under the door," Ryu replied.
"Is Ryu home?" Videl asked.
"I don't..."
"Ryu, are you in the house?" Videl shouted
"No, I'm not," Ryu shouted back.
"Okay," Videl shouted.
"I'll be down in a minute," Ryu shouted.
Ryu was trying on his new costume. It was a red helmet with a battle shield made out of fiber glass covering his eyes. There were black tights too covering him from head to toe showing his muscles. He wore white gloves, and red and yellow boots. Like a saiyan's battle boots. Finally there was a red cape attached to the shoulder of his tights.
"I'm thinkin' some red armor right there, and we're in buisness," Ryu said putting a hand on his chest.

Chapter 8: Monay, monay, muuuuunaaay! MUUUUNAY!

"My name is Crusher Hogan. And I will crush your head like the pimple it is!"
There was a tall, rather muscular, bald-headed man standing in a wrestling arena. He had a tatoo on his for head that looked like a C and H combined together sort of, with two dots, appearing sideways parralel to each other other. It didn't make any sense, but at least it attracted a crowd.
The man had no shirt on, but wore long black tights for pants. He was pushing one of the ropes down slightly, with his hand and pointing at Brieanna with the other.
"What-ever," Brieanna smiled.
Ryu went with Brieanna to the arena to see a good wrestling match. The tickets were cheap too. Surprisingly cheap. Ten dollars to be exact. Although I suppose that's what you get for a local wrestling arena.
"Crusher Hogan" crossed his arms and looked rough staring down at the crowd. The arena was very large. There was even a second floor for kids to stand on and watch. They were all teenagers, or course, though. No kids under thirteen allowed. The was a big sign above the arena that said: UCW SPANKDOWN Tuesdays at 8.
"That's right! Who here is willing to take on the invincible Crusher?! Who here has what it takes? If you do, if you think you can take the Crusher down, we have five hundred dollars cash money for you! Five hundred dollars for the man who can take our Crusher down!" the announcer exclaimed, waving five one hundred dollar bills in the air.
The announcer was one of those smooth-talking backstabbing people you couldn't easily trust. He had dark brown hair slicked back, but often started to come forward, making him look kind of awkward. He wore a brown suit, with a white button down shirt, and a yellow tie. His pants were the same shade of ugly maroon brown, and his shoes were those shiny black shoes that you could almost skate on without having skates.
Charles stepped forward pulling his jacket off. Ryu watched from behind Brieanna.
"Oh my God," Brieanna said quietly.
"I gotta get me that bank, bro," Charles said, smiling.
Ategev watched, not really saying anything, just getting excited to see how the fight would turn out.
"Do it, dude!" Fred cheered.
"Show 'em how it's done, Charles!" one kid said.
"Yo, I want in! RIght here!" Charles shouted.
Ryu continued to watch from afar.
"No way, youngster. 21 and up. Sorry," the announcer said leaning on the ropes.
"No way," Charles said.
"Insurance purposes," the announcer added.
"Oh my God! Total rip! You suck Crusher!" Charles shouted.
The Crusher just smiled.
"Total dis!" Charles said walking away.
"Son, go get 'em," Fred ordered.
"You know what, Fred? How about you hop in the ring? And then when you lose, your family can sue his family," Ryu snarled.
Ryu, and Fred glared at each other. Brieanna was in the middle stunned at what Ryu said. Charles was next to Fred, not sure whether to help, or laugh at his friend. A few other people were watching hoping a fight would start.
"Whoooaah! Son knocks one out of the park! The student has become the master, Sensei Thalamus," Charles said, breaking the silence, and giving a Fred a light punch on the shoulder.
"Shut up, weeble!" Fred exclaimed.
"I gotta get out of here before I slip and hurt myself on the testosterone," Brieanna said throwing her arms up in the air walking away. Ryu watched her until she was out of sight.

"Ryu, are you in the house?" Videl shouted from downstairs.
"No, I'm not," Ryu shouted back.
"Do you plan on eating dinner this year?" Videl shouted.
"What's for dinner?" Ryu shouted back.
"Meat loaf," Videl shouted.
Ryu had put tight fitting sneakers, and black pants on. He was just now putting a red t-shirt on.
"Pizza?" Ryu asked.
Then, Ryu put his glasses on. He had not worn glasses since he went to bed, the night of the fight with Fred.
"Meat loaf!" Videl shouted more loudly.
"Pizza?" Ryu shouted more loudly.
"MEAT LOAF!" Videl shouted sternly, beggining to lose her temper.
"Pizza?" Ryu shouted again.
"Pizza," Videl shouted, with a sigh.
Ryu slipped on a black mask. It actually looked quite nice with his glasses through the eyeholes of the mask. It almost made him look like some kind of saturday morning cartoon character.
"I'll be down in two seconds," Ryu shouted.
"Pizza that looks and tastes an awful lot like meat loaf," Videl shouted.
Ryu looked at himself in the mirror hanging on his door. He lifted his arms up and bent them like a heavyweight lifter.

"Hey, medicine ball, ya ready for me?" Ryu said mocking the Crusher's bald head, and leaping into the ring.
"You can't just jump in here like this, mister! Hey! I don't want this to... Crusher!" the announcer exclaimed.
But it was too late. Ryu had already taken on the Crusher. It seemed as if the Crusher would overwhelm Ryu. He was nearly twice Ryu's size. Ryu put his forearm under the Crusher's neck to keep him from pinning him down. He used his palm to push the Crusher's chest back so the Crusher couldn't advance.
"You crazy runt, you're lookin' to get hurt?" the Crusher exclaimed half-shouting.
"Whatever," was all Ryu said in response.
"You're like the 'before' picture. I could break you in half," the Crusher said trying to tell the boy, that he was no match for him.
Fred and Charles were still at the arena.
"Shit, man, I shoulda thought of that," Charles muttered.
Ryu suddenly lifted up the Crusher. The Crusher's back rested on Ryu's hands.
"What is going on here?! Put that man down!" the announcer shouted through the microphone.
"WHOA!" one of the kids shouted. For a moment it looked like Ryu was going to drop him.
"Hey! HEY!" the Crusher shouted.
And then he did. WHAM! The entire room was silent. No one spoke a word.
"The Crusher is taken! The Crusher is down!" the announcer shouted. The announcer didn't even use the microphone this time. He was so stunned. This wasn't the way it was supposed to happen!
"Oh my God! Oh my God! He spanked the Crusher! Spanked him!" Charles half-shouted, half-laughed.
Fred didn't say anything. He was stunned with amazement.
"Who are you, masked mystery man?!" the announcer asked over the microphone trying to get as much publicity as he could. "Unveil yourself to the crowd!"
"I believe this has my name on it," Ryu said snatching the money out the announcer's hand.
"Are you a pro?" the announcer asked.
"I am now," Ryu answered.
"You come down to the arena monday night, I'll get you a spot on the show," the announcer said.
"You paying cash?" Ryu asked.
"If that's the way it has to be," the announcer answered.
"Seeya Monday. You okay?" Ryu asked, now talking to the crusher.
"You think I ain't never been dropped on my head before?" the Crusher asked, even though he swore he was seeing stars.
"No, I was pretty sure you had been," Ryu answered.
"How will..."
"Oh, you'll know it's me," Ryu said cutting the announcer off.

When Ryu got home, he slid an envelope under the front door. Then he ran around the side of the house, floated up to his window, opened it, (duh!) and stepped inside.
Gohan was reading the newspaper in the living room, when he noticed the envelope Ryu slid under the door. He put his newspaper down and went over to the door. He picked up the envelope, opened it up and found five hundred dollars in it. Videl heard Gohan get up and walked toward the door as well.
"What is it?" Videl asked.
Gohan handed Videl the money and her eyes grew wide, with happiness. Gohan noticed there was something else in the envelope. He pulled it out, and noticed there was quite a bit of writing on it.
"'...So the school faculty took up a collection on behalf of Ryu. Ryu is a fantastic student and we all felt that the incident with Fred Thalamus was unfair. We have decided to remain anonymous due to school politics. We hope you will honor our request in this area. We will hope to have more for you soon as many have pledged a donation but have not paid yet. Best Wishes.'" Gohan read. Ryu poked his head over the railing while Gohan was reading the letter. When Gohan and Videl both looked up because they felt they were being watched, he immeadietly pulled away, and was not seen.
"Wow," Gohan said, astonished.
"This is the nicest thing I have ever had happen to me in my entire life," Videl said gasping for words.
"He's such a special boy," Gohan said, reading the letter over again.

Just to clear things up...

Just to clear things up, because this may be confusing to other people, Ryu's powers were locked away, because 1. He never needed to use them, and 2. They were dormant. The whole cicada thing kinda traumatized him which "awoke" his powers, and he is now slowly and steadily learning to use and control them. It's not like he's getting cicada powers or anything. Like spider-man who got bit by a radioactive spider.
And then also, in my next chapter of the fan fic, I know that's not how saiyans or half saiyans or quarter saiyans or whatever saiyins become giant rampaging monkeys, but I had to come up with SOMETHING, since Piccolo blew up the moon way back when in Dragon Ball Z. And yes I realized my mistake with the family tree. Pan would be the grandmother. Not Videl, and Gohan as the grandfather.
But, anyway, I just wanted to point all of that out in case anyone got confused. That's all. Enjoy my fanfics people!

Chapter 7: The Proposition

Later that morning the sun was shining brightly. A flock of birds flew out of tree in unison scared by a cat steadily climbing up a tree. There were a few clouds in the sky but not many. Ryu got up and changed clothes. After his little adventure last night, he had gotten home at five in the morning. It was now eight in the morning. Ryu wore a blue t-shirt, and light brown khakis.
"Uh... Morning. Listen, I..."
"Yes, mister mouth?" Videl asked.
Videl and Gohan were already eating breakfast. They had a plate out for Ryu, but there was no food on it.
"I... I, y'know, I feel really bad about what I said..."
"Well, I should say so," Videl said, cutting Ryu off.
"Videl," Gohan said, trying to calm Videl down.
"And I know that I was wrong to... uh... say it. And I don't think you're losers, and I'm really, really sorry and I know better and..."
"It's okay. Ryu. Come here," Gohan said opening his arms in his chair.
Ryu walked over and gave him a hug. They both smiled. Videl smiled too, but recieved no hug.
"Gohan, you're not wearing your glasses. Oh hey, yah. Uh... I... I guess I left them upstairs," Ryu replied putting food on his plate.

That night, Ategev and Ryu visited Capsule Corporation. Ategev had called to ask if Ryu wanted to revisit the lab like his father proposed. And of course, he agreed.
"I'm serious, Ategev. I totally want to work in a place just like this," Ryu exclaimed.
"You would," Ategev said half-jokingly.
"I would!" Ryu said.
"I know," Ategev replied.
"So, whar are we doing here?" Ryu asked.
"Like I said, my dad felt bad about the whole cicada thing and he knows you really get off on this stuff so he said: come on down..." Ategev explained.
"That's pretty solid of him," Ryu commented.
"It's amazingly solid of him. I mean, for him. Yo, Ginyu!" Ryu called out.
There was an average sized man with a bowlcut wearing sunglasses, (don't ask me why he's wearing sunglasses...) and a short blonde woman with goggles of some sort on. She was jotting notes down on a clipboard while the man with the bowl cut, was doing something to some poor animal in a cage. They were both wearing lab coats. The man stopped immeadietly, when he heard his name and strode over to Ategev, and Ryu.
"This here is Doctor Otto Ginyu," Ategev said, introducing the man to Ryu.
"Ginyu?" Ryu asked.
"DOCTOR Ginyu to you, young man," Ginyu replied.
"He's a big brain around here. Very big brain. Scary big," Ategev said, walking over to the blonde woman.
"I hear you're quite the talent in the science arts," Doctor Ginyu said trying to make conversation.
"Oh, well, that's..."
Ryu stopped when he saw a very high tech flat screen computer. To Ryu, that computer was like Nirvana.
"Hey, I wouldn't mind having one of those 9-640's," Ryu muttered.
"Oh, you don't want that. It's an old one," Doctor Ginyu said modestly.
"Can I have it when you throw it out?" Ryu asked.
Meanwhile, Ategev was over talking to the blonde lady. She had pulled her goggles off and was engaged in a conversation with Ategev.
"Hey, Darlene, where you been?" Ategev asked cheerfully.
"Waiting for you to hit puberty, juinor," Darlene shot back playfully.
"What? How could you say that? I did that earlier in the week," Ryu laughed.
"Ryu, I heard about the unfortunate incident with the insect experiment... ...I hope that you haven't had any odd side effects. Dizziness? Drowsiness?" Doctor Ginyu asked.
"Well, there has been a little, what are the animal for anyway?" Ryu asked staring at a white rabbit in a glass container.
"We check for blood work reactions," Doctor GInyu answered.
"Reactions?" Ryu asked curiously.
"Just simple blood work. Have youe ver had your blood taken, Ryu?" Doctor Ginyu asked.
"Oh yeah. You know physicals," Ryu answered.
"Well, why don't we take some of yours and I can show you what we do here," Doctor Ginyu suggested grabbing for something on the inside of his lab coat.
"No, that's okay. I'd like to keep mine all in its original container," Ryu said.
Doctor Ginyu pulled out a long needle. Ryu suddenly had that feeling he felt when that van was about to hit him. It was almost as if he was sensing danger. He felt himself getting more powerful by the second...
"Hey, what are you doing? Hey!" Ryu exclaimed.
Doctor Ginyu pulled up Ryu's left sleeve and stuck a needle in him. He drew the blood as quickly as possible. Then he pulled it away, and lifted it out of Ryu's reach. Ryu didn't reach for the needle though. He went to cover the spot where the needle pricked him.
"What the heck is wrong with you?!" Ryu exclaimed.
"Just taking a sample," Doctor Ginyu replied simply, as if nothing had happened.
"What happened?!" Ategev asked swinging around.
"What was this? Like an ambush or..."
"What happened?" Ategev asked in a more calm voice, cutting Ryu off.
Ryu darted for the emergency exit.
"Ryu?! What's going on?!" Ategev shouted running after him.
Doctor Ginyu smiled as he watched Ryu shove open the door. Darlene just watched the whole thing dazed and confused, not having a clue as to what was going on. When Ategev reached the door, it was already shut. He slammed it open and looked around. Ryu was nowhere in sight.
"Ryu?" Ategev shouted.

"What I am saying is that the deterioration effects we witnessed in the first Son sample have, in layman's terms, reversed themselves," Doctor Ginyu explained.
Doctor Ginyu, Vegeta Jr., and his assistant were in Vegeta Jr.'s main office. Doctor Ginyu, and Vegeta Jr.'s assistant stood in front of a large screen that showed what Ryu's blood cells looked like. Vegeta Jr. was sitting at his desk. He elbows propped up his hands, which propped up his chin.
"Meaning?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
"Meaning the boy is a healthy specimen. If not healthier. His metabolism is somewhat akin to... Lets say... More than that of a long distance runner or more than an olympic level athlete," Doctor Ginyu answered.
"But what will happen as his condition progresses?" Vegeta Jr.'s assistant asked.
"Oh... And his condition has stabilized. His blood count is normal," Doctor Ginyu added.
"Stabilized," Vegeta Jr. said as if he was not satisfied.
"I would really like to spend some more time with the subject, Mr. Briefs. I have a series of tests that..."
"Thank you, doctor. Have a good night," Vegeta Jr. said cutting Doctor Ginyu off.
Doctor Ginyu shot a dark look at Vegeta Jr. and then left.
"Should I call Shaw back in to finish the job?" Vegeta Jr.'s assistant asked.
"No," Vegeta answered slowly.
"No?" Vegeta Jr.'s assistant asked, surprised.
"No. His parents... The school. Too many people to put two and two together. An autopsy to deal with. There's a trail. It's not a smart move now," Vegeta Jr explained.
"You want to bring him in for more tests?" Vegeta Jr.'s assistant asked.
"That is admission that there's something to test. No, we need to repeat the accident," Vegeta Jr. said, almost thinking to himself.
"Repeat the... On a human?" Vegeta Jr.'s assistant asked.
"Match the situation. Specimen. Control the enviroment," Vegeta Jr. explained.
Vegeta Jr.'s assistant gave him a dark look, as if to say: No, you couldn't.
"Pull up my file, please," Vegeta Jr. said over an intercom.
Vegeta Jr.'s assistant's eyes widened immeadietly.

"Right there, yes. Right there we can see where the insect experiment 'OO' bit that Son boy."
A picture of Ryu being bitten by the cicada flashed onto the screen.
"Initally, the biological effects to the Son boy were negative. Very negative. And his chance for survival was very slim. Fatal."
Another image flashed onto the screen. It was the image of the cicada landing on Brieanna's chest.
"But now we beleive that it was the mixture of cicada venom with the OZ that made his powers awaken. We have found a gene in his DNA where he has super strength and the ability to fly. He may have other powers too, but we have been able to undetermine what that is yet."
An image flashed across the screen of Charles smashing the cicada with the sole of his shoe. Another image flashed of Ryu lying on the ground, with Brieanna, and a teacher trying to wake him up. It zoomed in on his face.
"It was an accident, yes, but we have our first human test subject... ...and what he has shown us is that our time is now."
The first image of the cicada biting Ryu's hand flashed across the screen again.
"Turn it off, please."
The image froze on screen.
"We may very well hold the key that unlocks the next step of human evolution. And by we, of course, I mean me. I would like to recreate the Son OZ accident under more scientific enviroments. Please, consider this. If a mere traumatization awakened Ryu's powers imagine what could happen if you brought out ALL of the power in one person? Like me?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
There were six people in the room. There was a middle aged lady wearing a buisness suit, with long light brown hair. There was a man about the same descripiton only had short, medium brown hair. A proffesor with a red bow tie, a lab coat, and glasses. His red hair was combed back smoothly. Vegeta Jr.'s assistant was off in the corner staring at Vegeta Jr. sadly. Doctor Ginyu was sitting next to the proffesor with the bow tie.
"You, sir? You want to inject yourself with the OZ compound?" the proffesor asked unbeleivingly.
"Glad we understand each other. Let's crunch some numbers and get this next phase rolling along," Vegeta Jr. smiled.
The Proffesor was silent.

Chapter 1: The Mall

Because someone got into my profile thingamabob, my chapter 1 was deleted. And is (or was) currently not on my site. So here it is again:

“Sodium carbonide… That is such an odd choice. I wonder if that is a bold compound.”
Ryu was always sort of a geek. He was totally in to science and math. Had the trademark glasses and everything. He was even reading science books of his own free will in the mall. Nothing like his father Goku Jr., much less his legendary great great grandfather Goku. Now that was a name to live up to. Fortunetly he didn’t have to. Times had changed. There was no more need to save the world. Sure, being part saiyan meant he had some power, but it was essiantly useless to Ryu. And plus it was dormant. He couldn’t even use it if he wanted to, not that he knew.
He liked to wear red and white. Those were his two favorite colors. And he kept his hair sort of long too. Not like a girls hair, but like a long boy’s hair.
Suddenly, two French fries covered in ketchup flew past Ryu’s face. He looked towards where they were thrown from.
“Give it to me two times! Ha ha!”
“You crazy!”
Fred Thalamus, and Charles Breedy. The two sophomore bullies. Fred was a blond and blue eyed, but not Arian, jockey. He was like the star of the school football team. Very cocky, and arrogant, always thinking he’s better than other people. Charles Breedy was a chubby fellow. The typical white boy. Fat, buzz cut, freckles, striped shirt and jeans. He’s Fred’s “lackey” so to speak.
“So I said: ‘What did he say?’ She said he said his cell phone was broken. What a dog, right?”
“Uh-huh.”
Lizzie Larramie, and Brieanna Jordan. Probably the two hottest girls in Ryu’s grade. Lizzie had bleach blonde hair, and always loved to talk. She hung out with people like Fred Thalamus, or some other high school jerk. Brieanna Jordan, was kind of quiet. She always kept her grades up. Not a straight A student or anything like that. Just As and Bs and the occasional C. Ryu liked her a lot but he never said anything to her about her. He always thought she deserved better.
“So I told her to tell him drop dead! Right?” Lizzie said.
Meanwhile, Brieanna and Ryu were locked. They both liked each other, but neither of them knew that. They were locked into each others eyes. Ryu smiled nervously.
This time 4 french fries hit him in the face. But at least they weren’t covered in ketchup.
“That’s a five pointer!” Fred said.
“Nuh-uh! I’d give it a four.” Charles replied.
Ryu quietly collected himself. He fixed his glasses which had slid down his nose a little ways, and closed his book. He was so embarresed.
“I’m going to try on tops. Coming?” Lizzie asked.
“What? Uh… No. No, I gotta…” Brieanna started to say.
“Study. Yeah, duh. What else is new in the world of Brainy Brie? I’m gone.” Lizzie said.
Brieanna stared at Ryu looking down at the ground. She saw how he just held his book in his hands, and stared blankly at his lap. Brieanna drooped her head a little wishing she could do something. Ryu was so alone, and there was nothing she could think to of to cheer him up.
A beef bean burrito came flying out of nowhere. It hit Ryu like a bomb. It almost literally exploded. Fred and Charles stared at Ryu with hopeful glee. Ryu looked up at them with great sadness in his eyes.
“Slam it home, Charles!” Fred exclaimed.
“GOOOAAL!” Charles shouted.
“You guys are such idiots. Really!” one girl commented.
Someone put a hand on Ryu’s shoulder.
“Hey, Ryu…”
It was Ryu’s grandfather Gohan. He was about the age of 67 now, retired. He commonly wore glasses these days. It was prescribed by his doctor.
“Grandpa? What… What are you doing here? I thought you were just dropping me off.” Ryu said.
“Isn’t that Brieanna over there? I needed some pants so I bought some pants. Why isn’t Brieanna sitting over here?” Gohan asked.
“Brie… Brieanna?” Ryu asked nervously.
“Get over her, girl! Don’t you look like a million dollars.” Gohan said as Brieanna started to get up.
Brieanna smiled and walked over to Gohan and Ryu.
“Doesn’t she look fab, Ryu?” Gohan asked.
“Yeah, sure. Of… of course.” Ryu replied kind of happily embarrassed.
Gohan turned towards Fred and Charles. He gave them a mean stare. Fred brushed him off with a flick of his hand, and Charles looked away.
“Hey, Brieanna, how’d that science whatchamazoot doohickey project you and Ryu were working on go?” Gohan asked.
“Ryu didn’t tell you?” Brieanna asked.
“Oh… I didn’t want to bore him with…?”
“I think we did good.” Brieanna said interrupting Ryu.
“You did great. You always do.”

Chapter 6: With Great Power

The next day, in class, Rich was teaching history class. Half the class was either asleep, spaced out, or passing notes. Ryu felt like he was on fire. He felt like he had all this energy was trapped inside him, and buring him from the inside to get out. He was sweating profusely. Brieanna was doodling on her notebook.
"In 1930, the Republicans controlled the house of representatives in an effort to elevate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone? The Great Depression. Past the...? Anyone? Anyone? The Tariff Bill. The Smoot-hawley Tariff Act. Anyone? Raised or lowered? Raised tariffs. In order to collect more revenue for the federal goverment. Anyone know the effects? It did not work and the United States goverment sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this: Anyone? Anyone know what this is? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Act. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something D-O-O economics? Voodoo economics." Rich explained. He seemed to drone on and on for hours.
Ryu's hands began to shake. He tried to stop them, by concentrating on the his notes, but they just wouldn't stop. He looked over at Breianna as if crying out for help, but she wasn't paying attention. He fingers begin to twitch spastically. He put his hands on the curb of his desk, trying to hold on for dear life.
KRAK! Ryu ripped his desk open with a huge spastic movement.
"Son...?" Rich asked, shocked to see the spectacle or the desk on the floor in pieces.
"Oh! Ha ha hah! Oh my God! You are the hugest spazoid!" Fred laughed.
"'And for my next trick, I shall actually trip while sitting down.'" Charles chided in.
"Hey! How about you shut that stupid face of yours or I'll shut it for you!" Ryu snapped.
For a moment, Fred and Charles were silent. They hadn't expected this out of Ryu at all. He was just some nerdy kid. Ryu was shocked himself, at the fact that he had the guts to say that.
"Ha ha ha ha!" Charles laughed.
"Did he just...? No. Ha ha ha ha ha hah!" Fred laughed.
"Okay. That's quite enough. Ryu, please. Just, just go cool off and see if you can't find another desk." Rich said, helping Ryu too his feet.
"Heehee, man, he is constantly entertaining." Fred chuckled.
"That's about enough, Thalamus." Rich snapped.
"Yo! He almost kicked your butt." Charles added jokingly.
"Guys!" Rich said.
"I know, I'm... I'm so very frightened..."
"That's it, Thalamus: that's a five dollar fine!" Rich said.
Fred stopped laughing and turned his head immeadietly.
"What? Why? What'd I do?" Fred asked innocently.

Ryu was in the bathroom, his head lowered, looking at the sink.
What the heck is wrong with me now? I mean, one minute I'm flying and the next minute I'm doing the spaz dance. But... but, now... now I feel great. Totally great. But all this from one cicada bite? There's gotta be more to it. There's gotta be, Ryu thought.
Ryu lifted his head and looked at himself in the mirror.
Gotta be someone I can talk to without being locked away in a freak farm... Grandma's head will just shoot right off her body, Ryu thought.
Ryu lifted his hand up examining it as if to find some clue as to what was wrong with him.
I should talk to someone. A doctor, maybe. Maybe I'm dying. But I can't be, I feel great and I...
Ryu pulled back his sleeve and lifted up his arm.
"Now where'd this come from?"

A basketball, bounced off the rim of the basket.
"Well, glad all that practice is paying off, Micheal. Next! Oh great! Son. Somebody call guiness... ...I give you credit, Son, you always show up no matter how futile the gesture. Let's go." the coach said.
Ryu had the ball in his hand. He stepped up to the three point line. There people everywhere. Either waiting in line, or talking and not really paying attention at all. Brieanna was leaning against a wall off in the corner. Fred had his hand leaning against the wall. He was talking to her. Fred pinned Brieanna up against the wall.
"Come on, so... Yeah, I know there's more goin' on in there, Brainy Brie. I been checking you out." Fred said, steadily getting closer to Brieanna.
"Son, please. While I still have a will to live..."
Ryu wasn't paying attention to the coach though. He was watching Fred.
"Have you? Well, do me a favor and..."
Ryu narrowed his eyes as Fred thrust into Breianna, and their lips met.
SMACK!
"Oh!" Brieanna screamed.
Ryu had thrown the basketball right at Fred's face, and it made it's mark. Ryu quickly walked over to Fred, who was slowly getting to his feet. The coach followed him.
"Whoa there, Son!" the coach said, trying to stop Ryu.
"What the... Ow!" Fred muttered.
Ryu stood over Fred, glaring at him intensely.
“You keep your hands off her, Thalamus. Just leave her alone,” Ryu threatened.
Fred got to his feet and was ready to pound Ryu.
“Are you out of your mind, Son? I will squash you like a…”
“Fred, get out of here. Hit the showers! You’re done,” the coach said putting a hand out to stop Fred. Ryu’s hands balled up into fists.
“He hit me!” Fred exclaimed.
“I’ll deal with it. Hit the showers, Thalamus,” the coach ordered, pulling his hand away.
Fred moved his face so that it was inches away from Ryu’s face.
“Three o’clock is only one hour away,” Fred said gritting through his teeth.
“Really? What’s five minus four?” Ryu asked.
“One hour,” Fred said through gritted teeth again. Fred threw his hands up into the air and walked away. “This sucks man! I didn’t to anything.”
“Well, Son, looks like you can throw when you want to…” the coach muttered.
But, Ryu wasn’t listening. Instead he turned to Brieanna and said: “Sorry, Brieanna, that… That wasn’t…”
“Ryu. Thanks…” Brieanna said, cutting Ryu off.
Ryu closed his eyes and smiled gleefully.

Fred swung a right hook at Ryu, but Ryu ducked and dodged it.
“Come on Flash, bring on the pain!” Charles shouted.
“What’s gotten into you, Son? Huh?” Fred asked.
“What did I say? I said I don’t want to fight,” Ryu said.
“Gotta get up in my business?” Fred asked swinging a left hook at Ryu.
But, Ryu took a step back dodging that one as well.
Fred and Ryu had been in the parking lot of the school fighting for five minutes now. Fred throwing all the punches, and Ryu dodging them. 11 people were watching it from the sidelines. Charles had heard what happened, and rounded up a group of people to watch. And (surprise, surprise!) Charles was cheering Fred on.
“Beat his butt!” Charles shouted.
Fred threw another right hook, but Ryu ducked, and ran past Fred. Fred turned around and jabbed into the air when Ryu sidestepped him. Ryu noticed that Fred was sweating profusely, and his face looked as red as a cherry. Ryu smiled.
“I’m serious, Fred, I don’t want to fight you…” Ryu said.
Fred drew his fast back, preparing for a mighty blow.
“Well, you should have thought about that before you…”
Unfortuanetly for Fred, he never got to finish his sentence. Fred shot his fist out. Ryu put out one hand and spread his fingers out. Fred’s fist hit hard against Ryu’s palm, and made a loud… CRRRRKK!
“NNGG… AAHH!” Fred screamed.
It was like hearing a wounded animal scream for help just before it died. Fred grabbed his wrist and dropped to his knees. He bent over so far his nose was almost touching the ground.
“Oh God! Oh no… Ggllg… My hand…” Fred muttered.
“I… I told him… I said… I didn’t want to fight,” Ryu stuttered.
Ryu began to cry, but wasn’t sure wether it was out of grief, or fear.
“AAAHH!” Fred screamed again.

“Yo! You shoulda seen it. Fred is all ready to break out the can on Son and what happens… Son breaks his hand.” Charles said.
“Wait, what?” Ategev asked.
Charles was at Ategev’s place in the kitchen. They were eating chips, and coca-cola. Charles of course, was gossiping about the fight between Ryu and Fred.
“Son breaks Fred’s hand,” Charles answered simply.
“Son breaks Fred’s hand?” Ategev asked skeptically.
“He just broke and said: What he say? ‘Next time, I’m gonna kill you!’” Charles explained.
“He said that?” Ategev asked.
“Yeah, said it was payback time and all that,” Charles answered.
“Wow. Broke his hand.” Ategev said, astonished.
“Yeah, it was all mangled like this. Dude went to the ER,” Charles said stiffening his hand and trying to form his fingers like hooks.
Someone was standing in the doorway to the kitchen, but neither Ategev or Charles saw him, because he was standing in the shadows. It was Ategev’s father.
“Guess he’s out of the league,” Ategev assumed.
“No doubt. Less he can learn to dribble with his nose,” Charles laughed.
“Wow, Ryu beat up, Fred,” Ategev said, trying to regain some of his composure.
“Laid the smack down!” Charles exclaimed.
“Huh,” was all Ategev had to say.
“That guy is like a scary alien freak, man,” Charles commented.
“Who?” Ategev asked not aware they were still on the same subject.
“Son, first, what? Like he doesn’t say two words all year. Nothin’. Just all in full geek mode, right? Then all of a sudden he’s all… He’s breakin’ his desk in half, then he’s all up in our face. Then he’s smackin’ Fred down,” Charles explained.
“You guys should lay off him anyhow. I always said it,” Ategev said.
“Yeah, you did,” Charles said.
“Ategev, come here.” Vegeta Jr. said finally speaking up.
Vegeta Jr. led Ategev into his private office, and closed the door behind him.
“Ategev, are you friends with that Son kid? The one who had the accident on the field trip?” Vegeta Jr. asked.
“With the cicada? Uh… Yeah. We do science together. Lab partners. But, dad, y’know his family are, they can’t afford to buy a new spider or…”
“No. I want you to bring the boy to the lab after school tomorrow. I feel bad for what happened and I thought I’d make it up to him… Give him a personal tour. Do you think he’d like that?” Vegeta Jr. asked, cutting his son off.
“Are you kidding me? Uh... Yeah. He’d love that. He’d… Yeah,” Ategev answered.
He couldn’t believe his father was proposing this. This was like the total opposite of what his father was like. He was almost stunned.
“Good, see you kids after school,” Vegeta Jr. said, smiling walking out of the office.
“Okay,” Ategev said.

“Well, yes. Yes. I am sorry you feel that way about it. Well, that’s too bad. Well, the way I heard it is that your boy has been picking on Ryu for some time and he was just defending him… No. I don’t. No. I… Great,” Gohan said slamming the phone onto the charger.
Ryu sat at the diningroom table, while Gohan was talking on the phone. Videl was there too, but she wasn’t really paying attention to Ryu. She was listening to the phone conversation between Gohan and whoever called.
“What now?” Ryu asked.
His hands covered his face, and he was looking down at the table. Whatever little face that was left to see, that his hands didn’t cover, was covered by his drooping hair.
“Twenty-five hundred dollar hospital bill and if we don’t…”
“What?!” Videl asked almost shouting, interrupting Gohan.
“And if we don’t pay for it they’re going to sue us,” Gohan finished.
“Are you kidding?!” Gohan asked rhetorically, lifting his head up.
“Sue?! Oh my God! What are we going to do?” Videl asked.
“What can we do? Let a lawyer bleed us dry on top of paying the bill or just pay the bill?” Gohan asked.
“But…”
“Videl, he broke the kids hand. What can I do?” Gohan asked.
“Ryu, this is not the way you were raised. This is not how human beings behave,” Videl said almost crying.
“What are you talking about? I was defending…”
“I just don’t understand, you broke his hand?” Videl asked, interrupting Ryu.
“What am I supposed to do? I am so sick of being picked on all the time! For once I defend myself and what do I get from you? I get a lecture,” Ryu said.
“Ryu, that’s not what we taught you to…”
“Yeah, I know what you taught me… …YOU TAUGHT ME TO BE A WIMPY LOSER LIKE YOU TWO!” Ryu screamed running towards the stairs.
Videl put her hand on her cheek, astonished that Ryu would say such a thing.
“Growing pains. That’s all it is, Videl,” Gohan said, thinking Videl would lose her temper.
“That was horrible,” Videl said.
Gohan gave Videl a great big hug.
“He’s a kid and he had a traumatic day, and he came home to us lashing out at him when we’re really mad at those Thalamus’s, who, by the way, I would like to light on fire,” Gohan explained.
“What are we going to do? Do we have the money?” Videl asked, pulling away from Gohan.
“Do we have it? Videl, we don’t… No. No, we don’t,” Gohan answered sadly.
“Put it on a card?” Videl asked.
“We have to. But that’s it. I mean, we are… We are maxed out,” Gohan said.
“I should go up there,” Videl said.
“Let the kid be,” Gohan said, coldly.
“He didn’t mean it. The boy adores you,” Videl said.
“Oh, honey, I know,” Gohan said.
Meanwhile, Ryu sat on the stairs just out of sight, with his hands on his head listening to every word they said.

Later that night, Ryu woke up from a nightmare.
“AAHH!” Ryu screamed.
Foruanetly, Gohan and Videl, didn’t hear him. It was 3:04 AM. He sat up in bed for a moment, thinking. Then he got an idea.

Ryu leaped off the roof and onto the front lawn. He was wearing long, black pajamas, with a black shirt on. He ran down the street dodging the street lights. He ran three blocks until he reached an abandoned warehouse. There was a sign on the fence that said: KEEP OUT.
Ryu climbed over the fence and entered the warehouse. There was all sorts of junk inside. Ryu slowly rose into the air, and then shot up into the air like a bullet. He stopped just short of the roof so he didn’t bump his head. He looked down, he must have been twenty feet high. He dove towards the ground, and suddenly slowed, making a gentle, and elegant landing. Ryu noticed something behind him, as he was coming down. He turned around.
He saw a beat up, red, Palamino, and walked over to it. At first he hesitated, but then without a single diffuculty, he picked the car up with his bare hands. Then he chucked it, at a dumpster. CRASH! Trash flew everywhere.
“I AM… HERCULES! I LOVE THESE FREAKIN’ POWERS!” Ryu shouted, tossing his arms up into the air.
Suddenly, Ryu felt a sharp stabbing pain in his wrist.
“Damn it! What is this?” Ryu said looking at his wrist.

Chapter 5: The Assasination Attempt

The next morning, Ryu was reading a book, while walking to school. He seemed perfectly fine too. No fainting, no nothing. He even had his cast off. A black and brown Ford Excursion stopped at an intersection behind Ryu. It's window rolled down. The man from last night at the hospital was talking on the phone.
"I have a visual." Shaw said.
"Green light, Shaw. Green light. Make sure it's done." Vegeta Jr. said over the phone.
Shaw hung up. and rolled up his window. He slammed on the gas pedal, and his wheels screeched. The SUV was was speeding after Ryu, who was totally oblivious to what was going on. Shaw smiled. Just moments away from killing the poor boy. He wouldn't know what hit him.
Suddenly, Ryu's eyes widened. Somehow he knew something was coming at him. He didn't know how. It was just as if he sensed it.
Ryu did a twenty foot back-flip into the air, over the car dropping his book. Shaw's eyes widened and his jaw dropped, just at Ryu, but at the tree in front of him.
While the car slammed into the tree Ryu landed safely on the ground. The air bag had not gone off.
Some air bag, Shaw thought.
"Mister! Oh, my God! Are you ok?!" Ryu shouted, running towards the car.
Shaw pulled a gun out of his pocket. Ryu continued to run to the car. Shaw smiled looking in the side mirror. Then, Ryu saw the gun in the same side mirror. Suddenly, Shaw frowned. He poked his head out the car and gritted his teeth as he watched the boy run away.
Shaw's phone rang. He picked it up.
"Report." Vegeta Jr. said.
"Sir? You're not going to beleive this, but..." Shaw explained what had happened, as he explained it, Vegeta Jr.'s eyes got wider and wider.
"Sir?" Shaw asked.
"Abort." Vegeta Jr. ordered hastily.
"Are you sure, sir? I can go to his home and..."
"Abort! I want to study that kid, not kill him!" Vegeta Jr. shouted.

When Ryu got home he rushed into his basement. He put his hand onto the side of his head.
"What the heck is going on? I mean, what the heck is going on?" Ryu asked frantically, even though there was noone there to see him.
Ryu slid his hand around his neck. He tried to think. He had heard stories of when his great grandfather had first met this lady named Bulma. Who would name their kid Bulma? Supposedly, Goku had been able to lift an entire car up? Was that even possible? He was only twelve. But then, he remembered when he flipped Charles over in the hall yesterday. He must have weighed three times Ryu's size. Was that so different? He had heard other stories too, although he thought they were just stories. He remembered hearing one about how his grandfather had one second place in a World Martial Arts Tournament. Something that was before Ryu's time. Or about how, he had beaten a famous martial artist named Mercenary Tao. Wasn't there a newspaper article on that guy or something? Then he remembered the incident with that van earlier. How he had did a backflip over it without even thinking. How he had known it was coming for him.
"I knew that van was coming for me, I knew it." Ryu said coming to a realization.
He logged onto the internet. He went to google.com He typed in: Goku Son. He clicked on one link. Nothing. He tried clicking on another link. Bingo.
Goku is the hero of Earth, has one the World Martial Arts Tournament twice, and his fate is a mystery to most people.
"Well, whaddaya think of that." Ryu said.
He scrolled down a little bit.
He is peaceful, good-natured and loving. Just stuff about his personality and whatnot. He researched all sorts of things about his family and anscestors. After several hours he got tired and looked up of the window. It was dark, and the moon was very bright.
Uh-oh, Ryu thought.
"Ryu, get up here. Now!" Videl yelled from the top of the stairs. Ryu swallowed hard.

Ryu leaned against the wall. Videl and Gohan stood in front of him.
"So I get a call at work, and the principal's office says that he didn't even go to school today." Videl explained.
"Where have you been all day, Ryu?" Gohan asked.
"I was in my lab." Ryu replied looking down at the floor.
"What were you doing?" Gohan asked more sternly.
Ryu was silent.
"Hello?" Gohan asked, getting angry.
"I didn't feel like going to school today, alright?!" Ryu snapped.
"Didn't 'Feel like' going?" Videl aksed sarcastically.
Ryu gave Videl a look.
"He didn't feel like going?!" Videl laughed.
"School isn't the party you think it is, alright?" Ryu said trying to think of something to defend himself with.
"Well, you're not supposed to be having a party, young man, you're supposed to be in school to learn!" Gohan said.
"Yeah, I know." Ryu said.
He started to sweat. He felt anger and power rise up withing him.
"Now I know that what happened on the field trip was embarrasing. I can see that, but..."
"Are you feeling all right?" Gohan asked cutting Videl off.
"I'M FINE!" Ryu shouted.
He slammed his fist against the wall nearly making a clear hole into the wall. The debris that flew out of the wall slammed against the other wall.
"Ryu?" Gohan asked, startled.
Ryu pulled his fist away from the wall. When he saw what he did, he was surprised himself.
"Uh, who exactly do you think you're talking to with that mouth?" Videl asked, struggling for words.
Ryu covered his fist up with his hand as if to hide it or protect it.
"Maybe you need to go to your room for the night and think about things." Gohan asked apparently unphased by the sudden occurence of events.
"Go to my room?! I'm fifteen years old!" Ryu shouted.
"Go." Gohan said almost shouting.
"GOD!" Ryu shouted throwing his arms up into the air. Ryu walked up the stairs went into his room and closed his door with a very loud-- SLAM!
"Kid had a tough week." Gohan said smiling.
"I know." Videl agreed.
"This too shall pass." Gohan added.
"I know. Maybe I'll bring some banana bread later." Videl suggested.
"Putting him in his room is punishment enough." Gohan said.

Hours later Ryu was asleep in his red pajamas with book on entimology lying on his chest. He was sweating.
"AAAH!" he said almost shouting. He woken up from a nightmare (duh!)
He put his hand on the side of his head. He looked at the clock. It was 4:12 am. He layed back down on the bed looking up at the cieling. He thought for a few minutes. If his great grandpa had powers then maybe he had powers too.
He tried clearing his mind of all thoughts. Nothing. Just quietly meditating. He felt himself slowly rising up out of the bed. Almost floating, as if he were controlling gravity itself. He was scared too open his eyes. He though that if he did he would lose his concentration and flop back down onto the bed. Ryu opened his eyes.
He was upside down. "Whoa... cool."
