Chapter 4: Bananna Bread

Later that day, Vegeta Jr., his assistant, and his lawyer were in his office.
"Seems there was an incident on the main laboratory floor. One of your son's classmates was bitten by the 'OO' insect specimen." his assistant reported.
"Ategev shows up and something turns to crap. What a shocker." Vegeta Jr. said sarcastically.
"Name's Ryu Son. He was bit on the hand." his assistant said, continuing his report.
"By the specimen?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
"Yes." his assistant answered.
"Our specimen?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
"Yes." his assistant answered.
"Why wasn't it in containment?" Vegeta Jr. asked.
"We are checking on that, sir. I don't know. But the specimen was destroyed in the chaos, sir." his assistant answered.
"Fire the floor manager. I want her gone within the hour." Vegeta Jr. ordered.
His assistant smiled.
"Yes, sir." his assistant replied coldly.
"Legal obligations?" Vegeta Jr. asked changing the subject.
"If they sue, they sue the school, right?" his assistant asked.
"If they sue, they sue us. The school doesn't have any money. We either settle immeadietly or we start building our defense now and wait for the hit." the lawyer answered.
"It's an admission of guilt if you even pay his doctor's bill." his assistant said. Vegeta Jr. thought about this for a moment.
"No, no. Let's pick up the tab." he said after a moment.
"Vegeta, I have to advise..."
"Let's pick up the hospital tab. And send a nice fruit basket." Vegeta Jr. said, cutting his lawyer off.
"Why?" his assistant asked.
"Yes, please enlighten us on this one." his lawyer agreed.
"I want to keep an eye on that boy." Vegeta Jr. replied.

Ryu layed in bed, dead asleep. The cast was still on his arm.
"He just came home and passed out." Videl said.
"Well Videl, he had a day, is all." Gohan replied.
"The doctors said his blood is normal and that the cicada's venom isn't toxic in any way. He said it'll be swollen for about a week. And that's it and that's that." Videl explained.
"Yeah, I got bit by one the summer before I met you." Gohan siad.
"The Briefs people picked up the hospital bill and sent a huge basket." Videl siad.
"Of course they did. They think we're going to sue the pants off them." Gohan replied.
"Are we?" Videl asked.
"Of course not. It was an accident. No harm done. And, you know, there's Ategev, Mr. Slick, he's a pal to Ryu. Maybe his only one. We're going to ruin the kids friendship over a couple of bucks from his old man? No. No, it's back to normal for us." Gohan answered, guiding Videl out of the room.

The next day at school, Fred and Charles were having a field day making fun of Ryu.
"Oh no. I got bit by a mosquito! HHUUUAAGG!" Fred spat at Ryu.
"Brieanna, if I throws up on ya, will you go out with me? BLAAHH!" Charles chuckled.
"Oh help me, Mommy! BLUUAAG!" Fred chided in.
"You really should stop hanging out with him. He's getting loser stink all over you." Lizzie said, watching Ryu walk down the hall.
"I heard he threw up on your shoes." one girl said.
"He didn't throw up on my shoes." Brieanna said defensivley.
"What I heard." the girl replied.
"Well, he didn't." Brieanna said irratibly.
"The cheerleaders are calling you 'Spew Shoes.'" the girl commented.
"Well, for them that's almost clever." Brieanna shot back.
"Looks like a ten pointer..." Fred said gesturing toward Ryu.
"After you..."
"No, please. I insist." Fred siad cutting Charles off.
"Mister Thalamus, it would be my honor..."
Charles pulled his leg back.
Ryu closed his eyes trying to ignore the both of them.
Charles leg was right behind Ryu now.
Ryu, bolted to the side, dodging Charles foot. Ryu caught the sole of his shoe, and flipped him upside down. Charles jaw dropped, or rather rose. Then, Charles landed on the floor face first.
This time it was Ryu's turn to drop his jaw. Charles put his hand on his head. His face was still on the ground.
"Dude! Holy..." Fred said at a loss for words.
"Ryu?" Brieanna asked.
"I... I..." Ryu said looking at his hands. He balled one up into a fist keeping it in front of him, and put one on his head. Brieanna put her hand on his arm. A teacher came out of a classroom to see what all the commotion was.
"What is going on here? Charles! How many times do you need to be warned?" the teacher asked. Charles got to his feet with the help of Fred.
Ryu began to feel dizzy again.
"I don't care who you think you... Ryu! Ryu, are you okay, son?" the teacher asked, seeing Ryu fall backwards.
"Oh no! Not again!" Brieanna exclaimed.
"Everybody back!" the teacher ordered.
Ryu blacked out again.

"AAAH!" Ryu screamed. He woke up from a nightmare. But, that wasn't what surprised him the most. He awoke in a hospital bed. His grandmother Videl, a doctor and a nurse stood around him.
"Oh my God! Thank the... Ryu are you okay?" Videl asked worriedly.
"Uh... yeah. Yeah, I'm fine." Ryu answered.
"You're not fine, sweety. You fainted." Videl said.
The doctor held up three fingers.
"How many fingers am I holding up, son?" the doctor asked.
"Three."
"Any dizziness? Blured vision? Nausea?" the doctor asked.
"No. I'm thirsty, though. I'm really thirsty." Ryu answered, picking up his glasses.
"Nurse?" the doctor asked.
"Yes, doctor." and the nurse walked off to get some water.
"So, what happened back at the school Ryu?" the doctor asked.
"I don't... I don't know exactly. I just sort of checked out, I guess." Ryu answered, putting on his glasses.
"How's your hand?" the doctor asked.
"Oh... yeah. No, it's fine. It doesn't even hurt anymore." Ryu answered.
"Have you been taking any drugs at all? Marijuana?" the doctor asked more seriously.
"No, of course not." Ryu replied innocently.
"Now's the time to tell me, Ryu. We are going to run blood and urine tests. So..."
"No, I swear. I wouldn't even know where to get any." Ryu insisted cutting the doctor off.
"The thing is that Ryu has always suffered from enviromental allergies. Maybe the cicada bit mixed with the..."
"Maybe... We'll run a full blood work and some x-rays. Make sure nothing got fractured." the doctor said cutting Videl off.
The nurse returned witha needle and no water.
"I need you to just relax your arm, ok? It'll only sting for a sec." the nurse said. The nurse tapped Ryu's arm to make the blood vessels rise up. The almost bulged out immedietly. Ryu's eyes widened.
"Huh." the nurse said inserting the needle. "Thick skin you got there."
"You coulda fooled me." Ryu said.
After the nurse drew the blood, she took it back to the desk.
"Hi, could you take this to the lab and have them do an express on this one? They're waiting. He's a cute kid. Thanks." the nurse said, setting a tray down with a tube of Ryu's blood in it.
The nurse she was talking too, had her back facing the other nurse. She was playing a game of solitaire on the computer.
"Whatever." she said.
The other nurse walked away. A white bald man, and a black leather suit, with blue leather gloves strode up to the counter. He took the tube of blood from the tray and replaced it with a different one. He put the original tube in his pocket, and walked away casually.

Back at Capsule Corporation Vegeta Jr., his assistant, and the man in black were looking at Ryu's blood.
"Sir?" his assistant asked.
"The drug, it's killing him." Vegeta Jr. asked.
"How?" his assistant asked skeptically.
"Well, I don't know do I?!!" Vegeta Jr. snapped.
"They'll trace it back to the lab." his assistant said.
"Yes." Vegeta Jr. agreed.
"Set the project back. Maybe forever." his assistant said bleakly.
"Yes." Vegeta Jr. agreed again, trying not to get mad.
"How long does he have?" his assistant asked.
"Not long." Vegeta Jr. answered.
"So he's going to die..."
"Yes." Vegeta said cutting him off.
"So, no matter what, he's going to die?" his assistant asked again.
Vegeta Jr.'s eyes flickered with realization.
"Ryan?" Vegeta Jr. asked looking at the man in black.
"Taken care of, sir." Ryan replied.

"What is that?" Ryu asked with a fork in his hand. In front of him sat a steaming yellow dough or bread of some sort. Videl and Gohan stood at the opposite end of the table.
"A banana bread." Videl answered.
"A banana bread?" Ryu asked.
"I read this book on homeopathic remedies. Potassium is fantastic at counteracting allergies. Potassioum is in bananas Bananas are in bread. You will eat the banana bread." Videl explained.
"I would like a piece." trying to rescue Ryu obviously trying to share the misery.
"No." Videl replied flatly.
"No?" Gohan asked playfully.
"No. It's for Ryu." Videl answered playfully.
"Rip off." Gohan said, smiling.
Ryu cracked a smile at that.
"Eat!" Videl said pointing her finger at Ryu.
