Samhain Eve

On Halloween (a.k.a. Samhain Eve, All Saint's Eve, and the Festival of the Dead), the most important of the eight Wiccan sabbats is celebrated throughout the world with traditional feasts, bonfires, and rituals to honor the passing year and the spirits of deceased loved one. THe divinatory arts of scrying and rune-casting are also practiced on this night. This was the ancient Clets' New Year's Eve, marking the beginning of winter. In many parts of the world, special foods are prepared for the dead. In Ireland, a festival is celebrated for the Goddess Tara.

Trick or Treat?

The Jack O'lantern was first made centuries ago in Ireland, using a hollowed-out turnip. Light your flame at sunset and cast runes in a Celtic-cross formation to discover an ancestor's message to you for the year.
