B&R Replay
Hey this an original story that I decided to make an open ended story for the fans. Come check out my otaku website for the full story. Just look for Shadowmatrix as the username.




Chapter 1: A Cursed Path

“Endless enemies, countless slain,” a bloodstained samurai stands amid the bodies of several slain fighters. The samurai leaves the site of the battle.

“There he is!” a general shouts as the samurai passes by. The samurai runs into the forest and escapes the pursuit of the army.

The samurai walks into the small town of Tsuyoku. “Hello! Hello!” he calls out. The townspeople look at him funny. A little girl walks up to him.

“Hi. I’m Saia, What’s your name?” the little girl asks as the samurai crouches down to her level.

“I’m Shuyin and I am looking for a place to eat. I have no money though.” the girl grabs his hand and leads him to a restaurant.

“This is my mother’s restaurant.” Saia says as she leads him in. “Mommy! I brought a customer!” Her mom rushes out to serve Shuyin.

“I am Maria, owner of the Tsuyoku Kitchen.” the lady says. “You look like you could us a hot bowl of rice.”

“Oh but I have no money.” Shuyin defensively declares. He stands up to leave.

“Tell ya what, this meal’s on the house.” Maria states. She goes back and gets a bowl of rice for him. Saia goes to the outside of the restaurant and Maria returns to confront him. “I told you to never come back.”

Shuyin looks up, “I’m on the run and I’m on a mission. I won’t linger long.”

“You had to go on that cursed path, a killing spree. For what?! Bloodstains and Revenge?” Maria shouts.

Shuyin puts his head down. “I’m sorry, I’m just sorry.” He gets out of his chair and leaves.

“Sorry? You’re sorry? All of the pain you put me through and all you can say is sorry?” she vents.

Shuyin looks her dead in the eyes with a deep look of remorse. “I am sorry.” He walks out and leaves Tsuyoku.

Outside of Tsuyoku, he realizes that Maria is right. “Maybe I am on a cursed path. I have to find a way to quit killing because the curse on this path is strong.” He locks his sword in his sheath.

Goku, Hakkai and Sanzo
Past life: Goku

Personality
High-spirited, enthusiasic, loud and adventurous, Goku is a breath of fresh air to the party. Goku is always hungry has a solid appreciation for good cooking. According to Sanzo it is because he did not eat for 500 years. Goku is a loyal and trust-worthy member of the party however he is often childishly naive and occasionally dull-witted. Regarded as the baby of the group, Goku is often willing to prove his worth. He gets excited whenever they have to fight youkai, loves new challenges and most of all, loves to have fun.

Appearance
Goku wears a diadem on his head which is his youryoku limiter. He has short, spikey brown hair and usually wears an orange cape. Goku's primary weapon is his Nyoi-bou (extendable fighting rod). Goku's eye-colour is gold, a symbol associated with heresy.

History
According to legend, Goku was born from a stone egg from the Earth's aura at the top of Mt. Kakazan (Flower-fruit Mountain). He is neither god nor youkai- He is Son Goku, equal of Heaven. He was imprisoned in a cage made of stone for 500 years in Gogyou before he was freed by Sanzo.

Sanzo had heard him calling his name and told him to follow him because he could not stand it anymore. As he reached up towards Sanzo's outstretched hand, Goku's shackles fell off and he was free. Goku was pardoned by the Three Aspects and his memory was erased. As a result, Goku does not remember anything previous to his time in imprisonment including the reason why he was locked up in the first place. All he remembers is that he was trying desperately to protect something. Sanzo allowed Goku to follow him, though reluctantly at first and they have been together ever since. When Goku removes his diadem, his true form is more powerful and more ferocious than any other member of the party. With power and ferocity unmatched by any living thing, he also cannot make the distinction between friend and enemy.

Personality
High Priest Genjo Sanzo is not your regular priest- he has no problems with drinking, gambling and smoking. He's renowned for being the most 'Buddha-less and immoral Priest' in all Tougenkyou. Sanzo is proud, self-assurred and often intolerant of people he considers his inferiors, not to mention his short temper. His egotistic attitude and flair for Buddhist magic and martial arts made him unpopular amongst the other monks as a child. He never respected his seniors as he considered them weaker than he was. The only person he ever looked up to was his predecessor Koumyou Sanzo. Despite his short-comings, he possesses calm judgment and enigmatic charisma. Sanzo once said that he hates two things above all else: perverts and insects. However, he also appears to dislike Gojyo and Goku's constant bickering, hang-overs and the rain (which brings back bad memories).

Sanzo is the only full-blooded human in the party and is the leader of the rag-tag group headed to the West. Sanzo once said that the only thing he believes in is himself and ever since he lost what was irreplaceable (Kyoumyuu Sanzo) that has never changed.

Appearance
Ravishingly handsome, his good looks are acknowledged by everyone, male, female and youkai alike. Shuuei described Sanzo as having "Hair so blonde it's almost god-like, deep purple eyes lit from behind like that of the full moon." The chakra in the middle of his forehead inherited from his predecessor is proof of those chosen by heaven, closest to the seat of the gods. Sanzo carries a powerful exorcising spirit gun with which he uses to terminate youkai and is usually seen wearing traditional priest robes, the Maten sutra on his shoulders, black gloves and a diadem passed down through thirty-one generations of Sanzos.

History
Sanzo's personality can be accredited to his past - shortly after birth he was left to drown in a river with a string of prayer beads around his neck. High Priest Koumyuu Sanzo (his predecessor) saved his life and took him into the Kinzan temple, where he was raised and taught the way of Buddha and martial arts. He was scorned by the other monks, who were jealous that he was Koumyuu Sanzo's star pupil. His nick-name was 'Drowning Kouryuu'. As a child, Sanzo showed remarkable spiritual power, enough to make all the other adults look incapable, once stopping a raging wild bear from attacking the temple by simply telling it to leave. The only person Sanzo has ever looked up to, is Koumyuu Sanzo, his mentor and father figure.

Then, a nightmare happened, one night when Koumyuu Sanzo summoned Kouryuu to bestow the title upon him. Youkai thieves broke into the room to steal the Seiten (Holy Heaven) sutra that same night and Koumyuu shielded the Maten (Infernal Land) sutra and Kouryuu with his own body to save them. Shuuei found Kouryuu covered in blood, tears flowing from his eyes.

"I couldn't protect him..."

In a council of the elders, Kouryuu explained what had happened. Most of the monks did not believe his story and thought that he had killed his own master and had hidden the Seiten scripture. Shuuei tried to defend Kouryuu but he told him not to bother. Kouryuu declared that he was going to avenge his master's death and also take back the Seiten scripture that was rightfully his. He revealed that he had been given the title of Sanzo shortly before Koumyuu's death and revealed the chakra on the middle of his forehead as proof. The Elder acknowledged him as Eastern High Priest Genjo Sanzo, rightful heir to the two halves of the Firmament Foundation Sutra. Kouryuu, now known as High Priest Genjo Sanzo, left the mountain that night without telling anyone.

The Youkai thieves came back for the Maten scripture as they did not know that Sanzo had taken it. All the spiritual powers of the monks couldn't stop them and finally Shuuei used the forbidden Talisman, casting a curse upon himself which granted him the power to destroy the Youkai.

Past life: Tenpou Gensui
Previous Name: Cho Gonou
Age: 22
Birthday: September 21
Height: 181cm
Weight: 69kg
Blood Type: AB

Personality
The cool-headed Hakkai is the most sensible and polite member of the party. He often has to act as a mediator between Goku and Gojyo's constant arguing. Hakkai is one of the few people who is respected by Sanzo and often gives advice to him. Hakkai is the owner of a small white dragon Hakuryuu, which conveniently transforms into a jeep, with Hakkai as the driver. However, behind his kind reassurring smile is a dark and painful past. Glimpses of his pain can be seen in his eyes; his gaze often sharp and cruel. It is for this reason that Hakkai is the most enigmatic character, though given his past, it's not surprising to see why he acts this way. During their Journey to the West, old scars begin to reopen as he has to face his past. Despite being able to channel his ki (or chi) with deadly accuracy, Hakkai often speaks absent-mindedly during battle. Don't let his harmless exterior deceive you! Hakkai is just as capable as the others in taking down his adversaries.

Hakkai also has a natural flair for gambling and is unbeatable at card games and mah-jong (much to the frustration of the others).

Appearance
Hakkai usually adorns the colour green and wears and eye-piece on his right eye which is almost blind. The cuffs on his left ear are youryoku limiters. Hakkai uses ki techniques to attack and defend himself but also has the power to heal others (emitting a green light).

History
Cho Gonou was originally human, who lived happily with the love of his life, Kanan. One day, he returned home to find his home and village had been ransacked by Youkai and all the women including Kanan had been taken away to the castle of Demon King Hyakugan's clan. Gonou was furious that none of the villagers tried to save them. He desperately went searching for her, fearing she had been killed. Into the Youkai castle he fought, slaying all the Youkai that stood in his way, one by one, driven almost insane by his blood-lust. At last, he found the dungeon where he found her. She called out to him and he held her hands from outside the prison bars. Unexpectedly, she reached through the bars and took hold of Gonou's dagger from its sheath and stepped backwards away from his reach. It was too late, she said- there was a Youkai baby growing in her belly for she had been raped. Then, to Gonou's horror, she took her own life right before his eyes.

As an old legend went, those who bathed in the blood of 1000 Youkai would become a Youkai himself- and Hakkai transformed.

Summoned by the Three Aspects, Sanzo was to bring Hakkai to the Temple of the Setting Sun where he would face retribution from his heinous crimes. He was pardoned for his crimes and was 'born again' as Cho Hakkai.

Real Name: Sha Gojyo
Age: 22
Birthday: November 9
Height: 184cm
Weight: 75kg
Blood Type: B

Personality
Gambler, smoker and an all-round ladies' man, Sha Gojyo (lovingly referred to as "perverted kappa" by Goku) made his way through life caring only for himself. Gambling was his way of life and had always kept food on the table. Gojyo has a laid-back, playful attitude and often says the most inappropriate things in a situation. Despite his age, he is always bickering with Goku. Gojyo has a soft spot for women and cannot bear to see a woman crying because it reminds him of his step-mother crying when she looked at him.

Appearance
Gojyo is characterised by his long crimson hair and eyes and the two scars on his left cheek. He usually wears a blue headband around his head. Gojyo does not need to wear a youryoku limiter because he is only half Youkai. His weapon is the chijiriki, a long spear with with a chained weight.

History
Gojyo is constantly haunted by his crimson red hair and eyes- the mark of a child of taboo, a forbidden product of the union of youkai and human. Gojyo's father was a Youkai and his mother was a human. It was said that these forbidden children would bring bad luck as it was an upset of the universal balance, much like mixing science and mysticism. As a child, Gojyo was raised by his Youkai step-mother who used to look at him and cry, because she saw in him the man she loved and the other woman she never knew. She would often beat him. One day, she attempted to kill him, tears streaming from her eyes. Gojyo lowered his head and thought that it would be for the best if he was killed, because he caused the only mother he ever knew so much pain to look at him. However, when Gojyo looked up, Jien Gojyo's older Youkai step-brother was standing in her place, tears flowing from his eyes. Jien killed their mother to save him. Gojyo keeps his hair long because it covers the scars where his mother tried to kill him.
