Fox: Cleverness, discretion, cunning, quick wit, camouflage
What is an animal totem/guide?
An animal totem or guide is an animal that a person spiritually identifies with. In my experience, some guides are “temporary helpers” that come to us when we find ourselves going through particular events, lessons or life challenges, while others remain with us for our entire lives. But regardless, ALL of your guides will instruct, guide, and protect you as you gradually stroll down your spiritual and physical lifepaths.
~~~~The Spirit of Fox makes you clever, nimble of mind, restless of spirit and sharp of tongue. You are usually efficient, quick in action and defensive by nature. You are skilled, talented, competitive and mostly need patience and training. You are a risk taker, and are genetically hardwired to danger, excitement and adventure. You're mischievous, charming, witty and have a good sense of humor. You are funny, entertaining and a delight to be around. When interested or in the domestic and mating spirit, you are ardent, attentive, passionate and even nurturing. Children bring a twinkle to your eternally young eyes and you are kind, respectful and protective of them. You enjoy playing and being silly with them on the ground or in water.
You resent rules, decry expectations, and eschew close associations. There will be with a certainty major lessons involving respect and the setting of healthy limits and boundaries. You are rash, and often don't consider the implications and consequences of your actions until maturation (or slightly longer) sets in. You hate being predictable and will throw a "wrench into the works" just to see what will happen.
The only real problem you have is becoming bored and disinterested. When that happens, disaster and crisis are but moments and at best just days away. Having the spirit of a rebel, you are cursed with a wanderlust and curiosity that is difficult to control. In gaming you may not win, but you almost always give others a good "run for their money. " There are several different species of fox, but they all share the extreme cleverness and cunning that gave rise to the expression, "sly as a fox." Fox speaks of the need to develop the art of camouflage, invisibility, and shape shifting. It is agile, skilled, and unpredictable. Those with fox as a totem are often clever and witty but must remember to keep their crafty and clever nature balanced or it could backfire. Fox is one of the most uniquely skilled and ingenious animals of nature. Because it is a creature of the night, it is often imbued with supernatural powers. Author Ted Andrews states that fox are usually seen at dawn and dusk. Dusk is the beginning of its day, and the dawn its ending. These are the in between times, when the world of magic and the world in which we live intersect. It lives on the edges of forests and open lands, the border areas. Because it is an animal of the between times and places, it can be a guide into the faerie realm. The fox has a long history of magic and cunning associated with it. It can move in and out of situations restoring order or causing confusion depending on the situation.
Ask me any questions you have if you are interested in animal totems. Many people don't believe in these sort of things but many cultures do. Many people have a heritage that may come from one of these cultures.
