Hey again...
Just recovered from my Halloween candy sickness... i ate too much... Well, i found this vid on Youtube.com of one of my favorite songs, "Diary of Jane" by Breaking Benjamin, and my favorite movie, "Black Hawk Down," rolled into one.
Okay, so here's the story of "Black Hawk Down:"
It's in an African country called Somalia. Tribes wage civil war against each other, and civilians are caught in the crossfire. So, the UN sends food to them, in something called "Operation: Restore Hope," but the tribes take it for themselves and use them as bribes to get new recruits.
The most powerful, Mohamad Aidid, worries the US, so they send in elite Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers to capture him. (so typical of American government... no offense...) They put together a 30-minute mission: They capture Aidid's most important generals, who will lead US and UN forces to Aidid himself.
Everything goes as planned, but while the Black Hawk helicopter is providing sniper cover for the operation, Somali militia fire RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) at the helicopter, shooting it down. So, the soldiers are ordered to rescue any surviving crew.
Then another Black Hawk is shot down. Soldiers are then ordered to rescue surviving crew from that crash. The 30-minute mission ends up being a sustained 15-hour firefight.
In the end, they are rescued by UN forces in armored vehicles and tanks. 19 American soldiers die, but the mission is a sucess. Soon after that, UN and American forces leave Somalia, and it remains a lawless country with ongoing civil war.
Anyway, here's the vid:
1.) What do you think of US soldiers?
2.) Do you think you could survive a day in Somalia?
3.) How was the vid?
Well, feel free to comment, and I'll see you all later!
