The Story Of The Pure
A Pure isn’t such a complicated thing if you think about it, unless you think life is complicated. All that being Pure means is that your life is completely artificial, man-made. About 56 years ago (don’t ask me when this takes place, I haven’t figure it out yet) science discovered what some say is the greatest scientific achievement in history, but others think it’s the worst. Science learned how to create artificial life. You know those cells in your body, and their organelles? (Mitochondria, nucleus, whatever) A Pure’s body is not so different, but we made every last cell in their body, directly or indirectly. Science can make robotic cells that can do everything ours can do, but better, more organized. You will see the wonders of Pure cells in future stories. At first it was feared by the public as either blasphemous or just plain wrong. Science continued, hoping the public would understand sooner or later. At first it was just Pure worms, to see if they really could sustain life. The worm acted little differently, but had no instincts, like how to get out of the rain. This was not surprising, as instincts must be learned. So on continued the research, with Pure rats, Pure hamsters, Pure dogs, and then science made a leap none thought possible. They made a Pure girl. Her name was Function, and she was the first of her kind. She was the product of 20 years work, between two different races, Mossis and Arbor. She was intended for military purposes, not given a chance to live a life. The public was almost unanimous in its hatred for Function, though she didn’t know it yet. She soon will. They cried for the destruction of Function, and all that she represented. Arbor tried to soften the public by giving function the ability to feel; Mossis thought it a waste of their time. Needless to say, this made a few arguments here and there between the two, but nothing like what was to come. As soon as Function had a breath in her body, she escaped, killing dozens. The public was in uproar about this, and wanted Function dead in the worst way. Many of them joined a group called Chross, a group united in trying to kill Function, in an effort to end the horrible war that had sprouted. This war was taking place because Function was viewed as a failure, and Arbor blamed Mossis for the failure, and vice versa. Their partnership ended violently, with the lab where she was made almost destroyed. Mossis used the excuse that because Arbor had given Function the ability to feel, she had felt fear that day, and panicked because of it. Arbor gave the reason that Mossis wouldn’t give them enough time, and that’s why she fled. Either way, Function was now on the loose, and very confused and hurt that everyone hated her just because she existed. Among her emotions, fear was the first used. She soon learned to distrust, and tried her best to survive in a world that hated her. Despite Functions failure as a military application, both Mossis and Arbor tried to make their own versions of Function. Arbor created focus, and believing more time to plan was key, took over 5 years to create her, giving her emotions as well. She escaped too, captured by fear. Mossis created Fusion, but nobody ever knew about her. As soon as she was alive, she killed everyone in the city. There were never any witnesses to testify that she was a Pure. She has emotions too, in a loose sense, but was not created with any. Fusion found Function first, and, learning that she was a Pure, tried to calm her down be telling her she was a Pure too. Function was confused why nobody hated her. It was because nobody knew, she said. Function was shattered at the time, and so fell right into Fusions arms without a second thought. Together they built up each other’s strength, and Function grew a little each day. Focus went through exactly what Function had, only much worse. The public hated her even more, as she was a continuation of their hatred. And Focus didn’t have anybody to grow with like Function did. She was entirely alone. As soon as she learned that there were others like her, a little hope sparked in her heart. Not much, but enough to keep her going.
Okirai is the city they all live in now, but there's much more to the world, as you will soon see. Okirai just happens to be the second-most technologically advanced city on their world, the first you will find out about later.
Hurrah! so thats the first story! heres the second! Enjoy!
Fusion's Story
A girl sits in a dark room by herself, with the TV on. On the TV was function, being displayed be the media as a terror to society, attacking unprovoked. The truth was she had been provoked, just not recently.
“Where’s function now?” wondered the girl aloud. She had elbow length brown hair, spiked bracelets, and was staring at the TV with great interest.
About 10 swat team members then entered the room, and gunfire filled the air.
Function walked through the door of Fusions apartment, sat down on the couch, and flipped through the channels. She was on TV again, like always.
“Why don’t they ever shut up?” she said, exhausted from another day of keeping herself alive. “I was not unprovoked!” she shouted at the TV. “They’ve tried to exterminate me at least a hundred times!”
“They just don’t get it, do they?” said Fusion.
“How the hell do you manage to sneak up on me every time?” exclaimed Function. “One of these days I'm going to react instinctively and shoot you,” she said. Of course she was lying; Fusion was the closest thing to love Function had, and wouldn’t lose it for anything.
“I doubt it!” said Fusion, stifling a laugh, but not very well. “Hey, wanna go out to eat or something?”
“Oh, sure, because I'm capable of just doing things like that!” she said. “You know very well if I set one foot in public there's going to be at least three different armies after my head! Not to mention, if they saw me walking out of your apartment, everyone would be suspicious, and then your life would be in danger.” Fusion was, after all, a public icon, adored everywhere as a singer and model, and was a terrific role model. Function would never ruin that. And it goes without saying that not one person was aware that she was actually a Pure.
“Don’t worry about it!” she sighed, “We’ll just disguise you!”
“We tried that. Someone screamed, everyone pointed, and everyone knew it was me. Your lucky nobody recognized you.”
“Fine. If it makes you feel better, I’ll go get takeout. Again.” She sighed, apparently giving up. “I just wanted tonight to be nice, that’s all. Just don’t go anywhere, ok? I have a surprise when I get back.” She said with a wink.
Function stayed put as told, channel surfing to see what else the media had to say about her. She was nervous about the “surprise” and wondered, “Might she actually love me? I wonder what I’d say…” she said, more anxious as the minutes passed. When Fusion finally got home, she was shaking, thinking about the wonderful times she’d spent with Fusion, and decided it was definitely love. And so they ate their dinner, watched some TV, and as Fusion turned to go to her bedroom, Function thought, “I knew it, she was just playing with my head…”
“Are you coming?” asked Fusion.
“Wha…?” Function was completely surprised, and her heart started beating fast.
“Well, there's no surprise out here!” she said with a smile.
So Function followed, heart racing, into Fusions bedroom.
“Close your eyes.”
Function closed her eyes and sat on the bed, and she thought her heart would burst. She heard rustling through the drawers, and then Fusion came back into the room.
“Surprise,” said Fusion as she shot Function three times in the head…
Or thought she had. Function reacted instinctively and leapt from the bed, then pulled out her gun and shot Fusion dead between the eyes once. She hit the floor.
A computer screen flashed on somewhere.
Function was in a state of shock. Her heart, racing so fast just a few seconds before, now had stopped almost completely.
“What have I done? What the hell just happened?”
She couldn’t think. Nothing seemed to make sense.
“Why the hell did she try to shoot me? Why did I shoot her?!” she screamed. It was instinct, just like she said. Function ran from the apartment, ran down the street, tears in her eyes, and tried to think straight. None of this made sense. Fusion, who just tonight filled her heart with love, tried to kill her, and she had shot her dead. She was completely lost now.
“Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart.
Nothing I can do
But total eclipse of the heart.”
The ten swat team members lay on the ground, injured badly, but not one dead. The girl had been the one to fill the air with gunfire.
“Where the hell did Focus run off to!?” yelled the team commander to the only one able to talk.
“She went out that door, and ran off down the street. But why… why didn’t she kill us? She certainly could have…” He slumped to the floor, unconscious.
“I don’t know why she didn’t kill you, but the media wont like the idea of a Pure that doesn’t kill. Somehow, we have to have her kill somebody, or we may have Pure sympathizers, and then there goes our jobs.”
After a little thought, he shot every one of the swat team members dead himself.
“There. Now she’s killed 10 times by my count. And that’s exactly what the media will hear about it.”
