Batman Begins movie review June 17th, 2005
1:13AM

Just returned home from watching Batman Begins. It was really good; however, I believe it could've been better. The writing was clever and included quite a plot twist. The villain role of Ra's Al Ghoul was far more superior than that of the Scarecrow. The Scarecrow's role could've been enhanced greatly, especially close to the end of the movie; instead they just shrug him off.

I was a bit dissapointed that Danny Elfman didn't conduct the score. Because of that it didn't have the feel that I grew up with in the first two movies.

I liked that they changed the appearance of Gotham City (no more neon lights, Thank God!). The feel of the city was very similar to the original (minus the humongoloid statues in odd poses) especially when showing the slums.

Christian Bale does a good job of portraying the role of Bruce Wayne. It took some time to adjust to him as Batman since I'm used to Micheal Keaton's Batman (not to mention Val Kilmer's mock impersonation). Bale's Batman is both original and classic. He adds some of himself and yet maintains the dark and quiet composure of his voice. You can tell that there's a difference when Wayne dons his cape and cowl (unlike Clooney's Batman who was basically Bruce Wayne in a costume).

Micheal Caine also did a great job as the younger Alfred. It seemed that the role just came natural to him and he still retained the humor and serious attitude of the original Alfred.

Can't say much about Katie Holmes. For one, I'm not a big fan. Every other guy thinks that she's hot, but I don't. I'm not the person to fantasize about a celebrity. I'm more interested in real women.

Throughout the entire movie I kept trying to figure out who was playing the role of Dr. Krane/Scarecrow. I could've sworn that I've seen him in something else before but can't think of it.

Perhaps my favorite part of the movie was all the fight scenes. Can you say "ninja Batman?" Ninjas and Batman combined equals one pleased Shiro.

I'm really looking forward to the next installment. I probably wouldn't mind if they brought back Joker and Scarecrow, so long as they don't f**k it up. Batman against two crazed lunatics might not be a bad idea.

Shiro's rating:4 1/2 shurikens out of 5

Trailors that caught my attention:
Nightwatch
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
