A Whole Lot of Nothing, With a Dash of Irritation and a Sprinkle of Nostalgia
Okeedokee, I just got my regular newsletter from Akadot, and in the first paragraph it said, "Funimation sent us a 'cease and desist' letter threatening to shut down our site due to our offering imported Fullmetal Alchemist OST CDs." Can anyone give me the background here? Cuz last time I checked it was okay to import CDs and sell them if there wasn't an American version out (or something along those lines... I haven't read the laws pertaining to that area lately). For instance, I don't see Tofu Records yelling at Amazon and other, lesser online stores that offer imported Japanese CDs of things like Jrock and OSTs, or imported, unlicensed DVDs. So, my question specifically is, has Funimation already gotten a hold of the RMA OST? And if not, why are they being so anal? They've got the show, you'd think they'd be happy with the craploads of money they're getting from that, but no, they have to get their greedy little hands on everything even remotely related to FMA, is that it? Well, guess what, Funimation: Greed got killed last weekend. So you can stop being assholes now. If you don't, you will have to face the wrath of a nation of fangirls, and you don't want that, now do you?
Well that turned into an angry rant very easily, didn't it? Meh, I have lots of reasons to be angry at them. I forgave them for using only the Ready Steady Go opening, because I love L'arc too much to complain. And while Ed's dubbed voice is quite different from his original one, Vic is really very good and I think he does Ed justice (also I feel a bond with Vic--he did some voices for Kino No Tabi, which no one seems to watch, ever). But it tells you something when I get riled up over this OST CD, because I already own it. I bought it at Dreamwizards months and months ago. And it's a really good CD. And, GASP, it has the original first opening theme on it. So maybe that's their scheme, to keep us worshiping L'arc... OKAY! I can do that! Meh, whatever.
So, anyone here ever watch Medabots a few years back? No? Didn't think so. It was probably labelled dorky before it even came out. But it's just such a fun show. And while it's cut and the script is goofy and some names are changed, it's still really funny. And I loved Metabee's voice. It had such great attitude. Whatever happened to that voice actor, anyway? I hope Medabots didn't ruin his career... Also on the same track, what about Mon Colle Knights? That was another FoxKids show (none of this FoxBox shit-anime from the dumpsters in Japan that they have now), and they only showed the first season, and then it mysteriously disappeared without a trace. No DVDs, no video games, no reruns. Just poof, gone. The deal was, they showed the first episode one weekend and said, "Come to our website and vote on whether you want to see the rest of this season!" And the vote was passed and the show aired for one glorious season, bringing us such lines as "I get $10 a day and I get to use their trampoline!" and "You'd have to have tiny little teeth like a ferret." Another fun show that disappeared into oblivion. Sigh. Oh FoxKids, where did you go? Where did you go with your annual DigiBowls, and your oscure but enjoyable kids' anime? Who these days cares about Flint the Time Detective, or Medabots, or Mon Colle Knights? Who these days would think to combine Digimon with the SuperBowl? And who was it who delivered unto me the first bishounen I ever laid eyes upon? Ken Ichijouji, I miss you dearly. You sexy beast, you.
WHICH IS WHY THEY INVENTED THE INTERNET! YAY!
I'm going to go watch good ol' morbid Hellsing now. Yay, blood! Yay, pain! Yay, darkness and decyaed flesh! Yay, gothic sex themes! I swear, doctor, I've been taking my medicine every day. ^_^ Ciao!
